The reel bats are only about a 1/2" thick but they do not break all that often. Pushing the crop over in not hard work. More often the wood pieces that the bats bolt to and attach to the center drum crack and break.
Not too much. Weeds like these can make the grain wet in the bin from the moisture of its thick stalk. Some of the weed seeds will get in with the grain also. We harvested this oats for our neighbor and was used for feeding his livestock. If it was going to be used for reseeding or human consumption it would have been cleaned as all crops are.
