I slightly disagree with the newer games, as I have noticed they are changing some char's playstyles, i mean obviously besides jin who almost changes in each game. Bruce got a great overhaul from the originals. Armor King is alot different now for better or worse. But the main reason I even replied to this is because you mentioned KI, which I claim to be the best fighter I have ever played. Though it is unfair to compare it to these.
