Im a huge JSS fan and have no idea if this is live or not. he is one of the best live performers on the plane tho, that I know. the way he moves the mic away from his mouth at the end of lines at some places tho, seems weird since the volume of the vocals dont go down.
On another note tho. Most of the guitars on Yngwies live at budokan dvd is recorded afterwards. Its very obvious on some of the songs there.
@Yngsatchvai It was multiple cameras...they are doing what they are told by a director (they have headsets on)...it's the video editor who screwed up.
The Overdub can be seen at 0:49 or Soto is so great that he is able to sing with his mouth closed!!! :-)))I don't know why they overdubbed it or if it was adjusted in studio, but it's pretty clear his performance is not totally "live" in some points! Anyway Soto was pretty young here and was able to reach high notes that he isn't able anymore to reach as himself said during some interviews! Still a great singer !
@whaddeva ._. Dude, Soto never recorded this song, ever. Research Youtube video/audio syncing. This is live, I dont know what else to tell you. Im sorry but this is 100 percent live, I mean you can hear the guitar feedback. Find Jeff Scott Soto on facebook, he will tell yah :-p I understand many singers have backups, but Soto NEVER has them, period.
@KarateMastR57 You're right ... who started this crap...of saying it's all overbubbed ....how could it be.;... its tottaly different from the studio. The breathing is totally acording with the singing. There are some jelous guys who can't admit how good this musicians are.Malmsteen pick thembetween the best of the betters... to plat with him tou can be great... has to be more... and Jef and the rest of the band are certainely more than great,.Cheers
This is the best live performance of this song... Bonnet could never pull it live... JSS does this song some justice although here the song is tuned one semitone lower while the Alcatrazz version is in standard tuning...
@NeueRegel1 Listen To the Version on Power Live with Steve Vai here on youtube and tell me if Graham cannot pull it live. This a stupid legend just why he was out of shape and maybe drunk in that concert with Malmsteen. I have a lot of bootlegs in wich he sounds incredible and with a far better tone than Soto. Here Soto was 19 or 20 and he still had a pretty young voice , Bonnet was already 36 when he sang it in 1985. And as you can see at 00.45 there are some ridicolous overdubs here!
@rideon77 I have already listened to it and he is having a hard time with those vocals... He skips a lot of the high notes and runs out of breath in many spots... Of course is a VERY hard song to pull live and it 'd like to listen some of those bootlegs as well before drawing a conclusion but as far as my knowledge goes Bonnet was a very inconsistent live singer. Yet he is a legend and a top tier rock singer:)
I don't know why people are bitchin' about Yngwie...he's incredible, if he rip this off Blackmore that's the most superior form of RESPECT!!!! They are both incredible and legendary!!!
@TMUSICIAN the Alcatrazz leader was Bonnet...guitar players were in rotation..."Jet to jet" is a copy of 'spotlight kid'...if the truth is madness, yes, I'm mad Mr.cof cof...
@nazzare79 Bonnet is OVER.. he's singing in small barrooms, for 200, 300 heads audience. He WAS a great singer, and member of GREAT bands, such as Rainbow and Alcatrazz, but his work will NEVER BE COMPARED to Yngwie's. BTW, I just dont need to be writing this, its OBVIOUS!! Who the hell is Graham Bonnet in rock and music history compared to Yngwie J. Malmsteen?
@TMUSICIAN no, the best is walter giardino, watch this video "rata blanca preludio obsesivo halley 88" and "la leyenda del hada y el mago." greetings.
@men007845 another joker... giardino is almost a Yngwie's photograph... Dude, look what Malmsteen do in this video, the way he plays, running, laying in the floor, getting crazy, you cant compare... damn! lol
@TMUSICIAN no you're the joker, yngwie is a copy of paganini, vivaldi, and especially Blackmore, just like pulling the guitar, played with the delay. lol
@men007845 are you sure of that? You come here talk about "copy" when your Walter "fucking who?" Giardino even uses the SAME yngwie's clothes, guitar, phrases, tone, solos, etc. I think he uses to pray every night to his swedish god, or maybe have sexual dreams with Malmsteen. What a shame... LOL. I cant understand why all this hate that people have to Yngwie... or maybe I do: ENVY!
@TMUSICIAN Giardino is influenced by Malmsteen... but just a little bit... he lerned how to play with an awesom speed from hem... but he's totally influenced by Blackmore... just like Malmsteen... and Giardino is more opened at the time to play and compose... when you hear just one malmsteen disc you've heared all... that's a my point of view... both of them are fucking awesom players and they doesnt care what we say about them... so let's keep on joying their art ;)
@pirata2777 a little bit? ok.. i cant realize if he was a bit more, I think he would be the very malmsteen. This history about every yngwie's album are the same thing is the oldest BULLSH-- in world. Every yngwie's album until Alchemy (inclueded), have unique songs and are awesum.
@pirata2777 BTW, Yngwie is a great talents finder, just as Blackmore (who found DIO, Joelynn Turner, Graham Bonnet, Cozy Powell, Bobby Rondinelli, etc). Yngwie brought to FAME many idols, such as JEFF SCOTT SOTO, JENS AND ANDERS JOHANSSON (from stratovarius and hammerfall), the great Mark Boals, Mike Terrana, Mike Vescera (who was not so famous yet with "Loudness"), Goran Edman, etc.
@pirata2777 I cant even believe I'm discussing about this subject with you guys, when Giardino create an innovator guitar style to became an idol to names such as Jason Becker, Paul Gilbert, Timo Tolki, Michael Romeo, Chris Impellitteri, Ardanuy and your very Walter, further many others, you come here and I will listen graciously to you.
@nazzare79 easier... when we talk about rock singers, who is Graham Bonnet? If you were talking about R.Plant, D. Coverdale, Paul Rodgers, Ronnie James DIO, it would be OK to me. Now, when we talk about Yngwie Malmsteen, we're talking about one of the 10 greatest guitarrist EVER, maybe the MOST important of the last 30 years. He is in the same level of those singers , but in his area.
@TMUSICIAN it's a fact that at the time Malmsteen was Bonnet's guitar player, this is what I was saying...anyway I will never rate Yngwie as one of the 10 greatest guitarrist EVER...He is to me a speedy and bad copy of Blackmore...and there's not even a single guitar solo from him which ever emotioned me...
Ahh the sound of when Yngwie slams the guitar neck against the amp head...incredible... and to the guy who prefers Vais version..are u kidding me? Yeah true its lame with the overdubs...not that they are there but that they are so obvious...just like the Lenningrad video which isnt quite as bad. I have have no probs with the dubs cuz lots of money goes into to ot so if it dosent work u gotta make it.
@whaddeva holy fucking shit you're right man. I've got this DVD and I never noticed that, only that the crowd noise is overdubbed. really annoyingly I might add.
This song was done by Alcatrazz with Yngwie and Graham Bonnett who was with Rainbow when they wrote Spotlight Kid, so who wrote the riff (Blackmore or Bonnett) is arguable, so I wouldn't exactly call it stolen.
@mike6254 - actually this guitar doesn't have a scalloped neck, if you look at it. Don't think I've ever seen him play a strat without one... also.. someone else is making all the weird sounds backstage.. because the minute the headstock and strings came off, you wouldn't hear them ringing or feeding back anymore.... he was all about the show.
One of the best bands of all time is Rising Force. Best guitarist, best singer, best keyboardplayer, great drummer and sick bass-player. I can´t see how that combination is anything else than fantastic?
VERSÃO MAIS RÁPIDA DO A ORIGINAL,MAIS O SOTO MANDA BEM,É CLARO QUE O BONNET É INIGUALAVEL,MAIS É UMA ÓTIMA VERSÃO TAMBEM!!BONS TEMPOS QUANDO O MALMSTEEN SE IMPORTAVA EM INOVAR E FAZER MUSICA!!
I have this on VHS it's called " Chasing Yngwie " I bought it back in the 90's when Yngwie had his Fan Club Dragons Fire later Malmsteen's Malitia. The Stupid Cameraman didn't focus on Yngwie during his Solos.
This song was done by Alcatrazz with Yngwie and Graham Bonnett who was with Rainbow when they wrote Spotlight Kid, so who wrote the riff (Blackmore or Bonnett) is arguable, so I wouldn't exactly call it stolen.
@torrid94 Bands frequently use songs that they were working on together before a split up. Listen to Mechanix by Megadeth and The Four Horseman by Metallica. Dave Mustaine wrote that while with Metallica. Metallica went on to use the same music with different lyrics, just like this song. However, I know that Metallica did give Mustaine credit on the album. I would have to dig out my Rainbow and Alcatraz LPs to find out if either gave credit to the other.
I'm lucky to have this Video it's Amazing but, the camera Man didn't Focus to much on Yngwie when he did all those Fantastic Solos. I still say the Japanese are the Luckiest because they always get the Best Rock Merchandise and Videos.
@rideon77 In 1985 there wasn't any sophisticated live sync technology. The Tascam DA-88 wasn't even out then... The trend of live performance lip sync started at best, around 1989 on up, and still it wasn't perfected... hence Milli Vanilli. Blame the film editor, and beside, it was filmed in Japan, you've seen those Godzilla movies.
This is over-dubbed look at 00: 48 00:49 ! If you want to hear the perfect vocal performance live on Jet To Jet take a look at the Alcatrazz live with Setev Vai here on the tube. Bonnet is the man!
When Mr. Malmsteen left Alcatrazz, people shouted at Vai "MALMSTEEN, MALMSTEEN, MALMSTEEN".
Watch Evil Eye, Malmsteen with Alcatrazz in the video "Live Sentence", also in that video Bonnet sings very bad some songs... like Hiroshima mon amour... but it's your opinion, I doubt something makes you change it.

This song was done by Alcatrazz with Yngwie and Graham Bonnett who was with Rainbow when they wrote Spotlight Kid, so who wrote the riff (Blackmore or Bonnett) is arguable, so I wouldn't exactly call it stolen.
drvassago9 1 year ago
@drvassago9 Spotlight Kid was sung by Joe Lynn Turner...Joe was in the band when they wrote Spotlight Kid...
torrid94 1 year ago
@torrid94 Yes, but it was written before he joined the band.
drvassago9 1 year ago
@torrid94 Bonnet was in the band when they wrote Spotlight Kid, Turner was in the band when they recorded it.

@drvassago9 I thought that was I Surrender?

@RafalKosc
And the bendy melody from Uli Jon Roth's Virgin Killer!
nothingfluffed 1 year ago
@RafalKosc he technically didn't "steal" the riff because Graham Bonnet has rights to "Spotlight Kid" and they were allowed to use the riff.

I'm lucky to have this Video it's Amazing but, the camera Man didn't Focus to much on Yngwie when he did all those Fantastic Solos. I still say the Japanese are the Luckiest because they always get the Best Rock Merchandise and Videos.

@jikarpert Steve Vai plays it both ways in the video I saw - picking the first time, tapping the second. Proves his versatility if you ask me.

Bonnet is the man!

eeeh... overdubs or not -at least it is in pitch. Bonnet can't sing for shit and often miss notes grossly.

LOL, tipical Malmsteen hater.
