  • love it!!!

  • Why did they cut that video short. We only got a glimpse of some brilliant, not just blues, but brilliant electric guitar playing in general.

  • The Velvet Bulldozer....The king of the cool....The heavyweight champion of the blues.

God bless you, Albert. You provided me with the foundation of my love for the blues, along with an inspiration I have taken & learned from.

If it's good enough for Stevie...That's more than enough for me.

  • This clip is from the documentary "Wattstax" filmed in 1972 at the Los Angeles Colliseum .

  • THIS GROWN FOLKS MUSIC AND MY PARENTS LISTEN TO THIS MUSIC WHEN I WAS GROWNING UP. IT BEEN OVER 35 YEARS LATER. IT STILL SOUND GOOD TO ME. I BROUGHT THE CD WITH ALBERT KING GREATEST HIT.

  • What is the year and venue?

  • sorry haters, bb king for me is the less attractive of the kings. here's someone who really deserves the title.

  • @eloelo14 You made me re-join Youtube, mate!

I completely agree.. marketing and cosyness may attract a lot of people.. but those who truly care will always be able to differentiate.. Albert King to me is the best of the best blues innovators; to me he must go down in music history alongside Cole Albert Porter and Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart, for fundamentally breaking the limits of his art.. musically..

  • Those in the know will never accept fake kings, here folks, is the REAL King!

  • young people, we do not necessary hear the music it is a feeling one gets, it is almost spiritual, you dig? its about the spiritual rip when the whole of the matter grips you.........You dig? As young people would say "you feel me", ck out Mr King Live at Fillmore, Cal, late 70s, I think.....Man when he would play the Mississippi Delta Blues Festival back in the day, ripped 60,000 or so fans, it was magic. From Mississippi. Thank you again,

  • Im with sweet melissa, shut the fuck up and listen and enjoy the music!!!

  • shut the fuck up and listen to the music

  • @sweetmelissa20001 YEAH!! i so love love love this....i say: 's talkin to Me, he's talkin right to me!! oooh yeah.

  • Bigotry is such an overused stupid fucking word only used by Liberals to describe their dystopian view of the world.. kind of like the word solidarity.

I missed the conversation, but he's black, I'm white, so what. Paying any attention to "bigotry" or disunity on the grounds of skin color is what leads to it's inevitable propagation. Were people to ignore the concept younger generations wouldn't have a basis and they'd see for themselves that cultural differences are not usually cause for hate.

  • what year was this?

  • OOOOWWWWWW!!!!

  • oh, the flying V...

  • I hate a sound engineer trying to enhance the guitarist sound. This is not respecting the artist

  • I can't believe Steven Segal owns Albert Kings"s guitars......

  • @sherriffofhongkong Yeah, but he cherishes them. Maybe he could put one in a museum. He really loved Albert King and his playing.

  • @1killaskrilla ... the whole performance is a bonus on the "Wattstax" reissue DVD.

  • i love this shit

  • Not spreading hate just telling truth.

  • Where is this video from and where can I get the while thing?

  • This the the style that SRV most emulates.

  • this is a real blues. Eric,Gary great guitar players but still, what they got to do with blues!?

  • Yo...How did you get the whole part??? I got the wattstax dvd but on there it just ends in the middle of the guitar solo and it cuts to the documentary. how did you get this footage?...Big thanks never even new it existed or was avalible...im a youngsta so never even heard of albert king until a couple of years ago when i found out about the wattstax dvd because of richard pryor...man i love REAL music

  • @GuitarNek I hear ya, there's too many people falling for the get rich quick RAP instead of telling it like it is with the blues. I miss Albert.

  • grandeeee!

  • Way fucking awesome!!

  • Referring to 4001XBass comment, I gotta say I couldn't agree more. Compared to these true original blues men Eric Clapton is just another pop singer

  • THIS GUY PLAYS UPSIDE DOWN THAT IS WHY HE HAS A DIFFERENT SOUND THAN OTHERS WHO PLAY LEFTY AND THIS CAME FROM HIM INAN INTERVUE

  • he didnt want to hold a candle he just loved being there with his friends

  • Have always told my cronies that Stevie don't hold a candle to Albert K ing totally agree on the equipment thing ..It's the playuh....although you can hear an overdrive kick in at times ....I mean the Beatles used "stock"....But the dude is also pro'ly my favorite singer

  • This was at the Watts Staxx, held at the Los Angeles Coliseum circa 1972

  • when was this?

  • why are the best bluesmusican lefthanded?

  • Fuck all these new players up the ass. Joe Bonnamasa and johnny lang. they don't know the blues and can't feel it. They play too much because there guitar dork wankers. New players on the big stage dont usually cut it for me. I like classic guys like this and i am sort of young. 26 and I know the difference between real blues and white boys. I am a white boy myself and I look up to Mike Bloomfield, johnny Winter and Peter Green because there real!!!! I dig me some Albert...

  • Waxstacks!

  • You're so right!!!

  • j'adore Albert King ( et Freddie King et Earl King et BB King ! ) et j 'adore le film !

  • I have to agree with Dennis, this guy is the bomb, playing that Flying V left-handed with no props, unbelievable, am so sorry I didn't get to see him live. Eric Clapton wishes he was this smooth. Thanks for the post.

  • @lgmnc I have to say, that I saw an interview with Eric Clapton and he said exactly what you just said. I respect him for that. He still honors his teacher, as Stevie Ray Vaughn did.

  • Waooo!!!! This is a real BluesMan!!!! Just great!!!!

  • Anybody know the complete band lineup? Bar-Kays rhythm section?

  • I can't like this enough! "Outta sight"

  • great musician. I had a front row seat at the "Golden Bear" in Huntington Beach, CA

    Miss those days.

  • All right Daddy! Buddy D! Richard!! This Bud's for you!! Love you daddy!!!

  • Thank god for youtube

  • Some dumb ass missed the like button.

  • No word can say his awesomeness. True King, true teacher.

  • my god! this has got to be the best version of i'll play the blues from Albert King...

that intro juz blew me away...that tone from albert on lucy is juz blues to the bone...

and theres even hollywood fats on rhythm, just amazing....

  • I hate the person to their heart who disliked this

  • sweet ass Korina V.. Damn thats tone !!

  • Wow Albert King looks like T-Pain's Dad

  • is it just me or do most great guitarist lefy. Ex: jimi hendrix and A. King

  • No one compares to him. The King, truly

  • eye bot a dual cd set of AK, very good in deed

  • @ 4001XBASS. Hey eric's cool, but you're right. Hell, people are some kind of tools aren't they? They eat up what the Man feeds them, but they got no ability to feel real soul. Sad.

  • @MissBondable Thanks my friend. It's good to know he's not totally forgotten. This stuff never EVER grows old. It'd too bad that young people don't get "learned" on this stuff, but I'm teaching MY kid to respect it, and she does. It's just that she'll never hear it on the radio, so I buy the CDs for her. She heard it and said, "Wow! this is really good quality music!" It really made my day.

  • @dennisdullea I agree 100% man. I haven't seen anyone get that tone other than Albert. I mean on any setup. It's truely incredible how much talent he had!

  • thank you for this post! I have played this record for hours and days on end. Had no idea there was a video of the session!

  • fantastic guitarist, but the man can SING the blues too!!!

  • Albert you will always be the man.

  • make that guitar sang!

  • "If you don't love the blues, you got a hole in your soul. "

  • @DiscoverGuitarOnline Great saying! And oh so true.

  • To those of you that's not hip to the blues we're gonna learn 'em to ya, teach 'em to ya brother 'Cause we'll be 'round for a while....I love that line

  • @maddvybe He says rather not brother, he corrects his bad grammar

  • I can remember cleanin up Saturdays n dad had dis playin

  • Can You get this Concert on Video? Man! This is what it's all about! Ya Know?

  • Albert was known to use an mxr phase 45 pedal.

  • awesome vid. you could buy a small neighborhood with that guitar

  • Instead of a phaser pedal, I believe that his pickups where wired out of phase to creates that effect.

  • Anyone who would say Albert wasn't a Blues genius would be lying through their teeth! He's still an underrated and very much unsung Blues hero today. Albert still hasn't gotten the full recognition he deserves in terms of being such a tremendous influence on so many other players who went on to become legends in the own right. Albert was a favorite of the late, great James Marshall Hendrix himself.

  • @JimiMarshallFender Yes you are right. The uncrown King of the Blues.

  • Bitchin'...that man knew how to lay down the blues!

  • Love you Albert ! (:

  • No, he used a phaser pedal - listen to his session with SRV or to the album "The Blues don't change", for example - you'll hear the phaser.

  • Love you !!!

  • Only bad thing about this is it isnt long enough.Should be a couple hours long.

  • @bigge0369 Agreed!

  • is there any more footage from this concert?

  • @TheKevvvMan This was Actually part of the Wattstax (1973) concert/movie. its like a Soul Woodstock.

  • @TheKevvvMan Never seen film of the whole show, but I believe you can get the whole show on CD (I mean Albert's set)

  • This sound quality blows me away almost as much as Mr. King, Wonderful!

  • Ya know, it really hurts me when I see the number of hits on clips like this compared to Eric Clapton. Eric gets 56 million and his teacher, the King of Cool, Albert King gets 56 thousand. Eric's fine, but man. No justice.

  • @4001XBASS couldn't agree more.

  • @kimanistar Thanks.

  • @4001XBASS The best things are for the few !

  • @LONELION17 Sadly true bro.

  • @4001XBASS YEAH...especially when Albert lived the life of a blues man..i dont think he ever got recognized like he should have....ill put it this way..SRV played the blues with the soul of a black niggerman..thats something you cant buy ..iT was a gift to the nigger blues man as it was to SRV from god...eric clapton as hard as he tried never could even emmulate the blues much less feel the soul of it..he played it i will say this clapton lost his feel for blues after sunshine of your love

  • @4001XBASS

    And don't forget Freddy King!

Seen em all in the 70's.

    Masters. Hendrix loved Alberts playing.

  • @michaelpilot1000 You are a fortunate person to have seen them all, I am totally jealous! I love ALL those guys playing.

  • @michaelpilot1000 What about the moronic statement from meatpole ??? I don't see you saying anything about his statement. That's not hate and ignorance ??? I have a point wether you agree with it or not, but that's just plain ol' ignorance, or shall I say Niggerdom from meatpole. He is the nigger !!!!

  • @michaelpilot1000 That was meant for 4001xbass

  • @4001XBASS Never better said, man. Never better said. This guy was rightfully so one of the three great Kings not only by name, but by merit.

  • @DiscoSamurai Thank you my friend. I'm glad some people STILL appreciate them. I'm sorry so many people of today have gone the easy money route of rap. These guys all have a place in my heart. They all tell it like it is. But, we still have Buddy Guy!

  • @4001XBASS why would I mind Clapton getting credit for his work? The problem is that lady gaga and justin bieber get over 300mil clicks, that is no justice. that is no common sense. that is just fcking gay!

  • @Rastafarayaa Please don't misunderstand me, Eric Clapton is fine. I love his playing & play his songs when I play in nightclubs & the audience loves it 2. The point is & I think Eric would agree with me is that King, the king of cool & inspiration 2 many guitar players like Clapton, Keith Richards & myself included, did not get the full amount of respect he deserved. U can hear Albert's influence in many Clapton songs like Strange Brew where Eric plays Albert's solo note for note. Love 'em both

  • @4001XBASS The simple truth is, caucasians worship themselves, to the point that they can't see straight, in other words they do it in other areas, like rap, they say Eminem is the greatest, they even rank the freakin' Beastie Boys as one of the top rap groups of all time lol, in Reggae the small white bands get more hits than the legends, and on and on, my advice to them would be to wake up and stop the self worship, because some of us can see, how they are.

  • @smailliwlliw

What an ignorant thing to say. Music has 150X more to do with some ones' personal preference than it has to do with race. Bob Marley never had a following of whites, nor did Jimi Hendrix eh? Give me a break.

  • @capth00k You are so right.

  • @4001XBASS You people are sooooo blind, you state that Bob Marley, and Hendrix, never had a following of whites, first of all stop calling yourselves white, your skin is NOT white, and your not without blemish, pure, without sin, or none of the things that term suggests. You are Pale, without color and full of sin, as your history of crimes against humanity will confirm, next, if you have eyes you will see mostly "Caucasians @ their concerts. You blind race !!!

  • @smailliwlliw

" You are Pale, without color and full of sin, as your history of crimes against humanity will confirm, next, if you have eyes you will see mostly "Caucasians @ their concerts. You blind race !!!"

.... Seriously? I don't even know how to respond to this one. Maybe you should form your own religious separatist cult following of ignorant morons whom actually believe your insignificant bullshit.

  • @capth00k There are many who see this already, and the only thing keeping your charade going, is the massive brainwashing of the media, but one thing is for sure, and that is all things will and must change, and the reign of your race WILL END. God Please Make It End Soon !!!

  • @smailliwlliw Believe you me man, I am NOT brainwashed by the mainstream corporate media. TV? That's why I don't buy into this hog wash about the 'reign of my race' will end.... it will never end. We live in the Anglo-Saxon empire, dominated by corporate greed and money ... money has no color, and we are all economic slaves to the system in one way shape or form. I don't see things the way you do, probably the evidence keeps stacking up in piles, namely fingering the banks the the elite.

  • @smailliwlliw Once again you are in error. The person who said those things is @capth00k. U should pay more attention before U start ranting If you must insist on ranting and raving like a lunatic please give Albert King some respect and do it somewhere else. You're making the whole human race look bad.

  • @4001XBASS I will no longer continue to argue with you, I made my statements, and I stand by them, though you see things your way, and that's your choice.

  • @smailliwlliw The truth is U R in error once again. I do not seek 2 argue but U do. I wish 2 discuss certain things 4 UR & my edification. Insulting me gets us nowhere but U do it anyway. Please leave UR hate aside & then U can begin to make that journey to real understanding & all that goes with it like peace & harmony & yes, love, the way the Master Christ taught us. There's 2 much hate & bigotry already we don't need 2 add 2 it. I didn't make fun of UR skin, but U did it 2 me. Understand?

  • @4001XBASS It was wrong for me to insult your race, so I will appologize for that, but I don't appologize for my opinion, that being said I do agree with you about putting hate aside. My intention was to bring to light the mentallity that made Pat Boone famous for singing Little Richards songs, and made Elvis the "so called" King, even though he was just an imitaion of the african american singers of his time.

  • @4001BASS I do feel that this is certainly not the forum for such topics though, because it is no way you can understand my point in a few statements, so if you choose to see me as a spreader of hate, I have no one to blame but myself.

  • @smailliwlliw Well, I WAS a little concerned about blanket statements like caucasians worship themselves and all that kind of talk and why would you assume that I can in no way understand your point of view? I'm a very understanding and empathic individual. If you remember, I started this conversation with being upset that Albert didn't get the recognition he deserved, and then boom! Out came, well, you know. Why don't we just start off again with we both love Albert King, cuz he's the man.

  • @4001XBASS Agreed, and your right he is the man.

  • @capth00k I was pretty certain, that you would respond as you did, you obiously see through the same blinders. I'm sure you would say, race has nothing to do with "anything" in this world like black presidents and thier children receiving death threats, or Hank Aaron for breaking Babes record etc, I'm sure "their" race, means nothing You see it's that type of blindness that's necessary for racism to exist, in other words you have to be blind like you are, to not see "YOUR" obvous ignorance

  • @smailliwlliw

Look Man, race has nothing to do with MY love for the blues. Get it? And for you to say I see through 'blinders' is pretty ridiculous ; just see some of my video content -- OK ? Perhaps it is YOU that is looking through the blinders and pointing the finger at your fellow brothers in arms, black OR white.

  • @capth00k Just so you know, I'm with anyone who can see, regardless of race, but the truth I'm trying to show you is that even people like yourself, who swear to be free of this mentallity, are full of this inability to see themselves. Been there with my so called "fellow brothers in arms", and found they were no different. that's real life experience talkin there bother.

  • @capth00k That's real life experience I'm talkin brother. I would love to, and am quite ready to make this world better place, but I can tell you that it will never happen until the blinders are LIFTED. Hence my speaking out.

  • @smailliwlliw Sorry but UR comment is really hateful & something that's not welcome 2 me & a lot of blues people. U should get right with God & stop UR hate against UR fellow man. To say "caucasians worship themselves" & "how THEY are" is a terrible racist thing to say & U should be ashamed for bringing it here. The blues is something everyone can share and get down with. Don't use the blues as a way to justify your hate, your whole comment had NOTHING AT ALL about the blues in it, just hate.

  • @4001XBASS Yeaah it's hate in Your blind eyes, but too me it's a wake up call to you. I have witnessed this arrogant form of blindeness from your kind for years, and you all use all kinds of word games to hide behind your obvous blindness, such as accusing, afro people of using the RACE CARD, but your people are the inventors of it, like lynching my people and calling yourselves christians at the same time, but that's not playing a race card ??? You hyppocrites !!!

  • @4001XBASS

    +1

  • @4001XBASS Lastly about your statement that "the blues is something "everyone can share and get down with" is totally ridiculous, as the blues came from the "real life" suffering of african people here in America, so, where do "You" fit in to that ??? The blues have nothing to do with you. Go listen to Mick Jagger. You people amaze me how you think you can suck the blood from everything. Calling yourselves Blues People lololol. Give this land back to the Red People, and shut up.

  • @smailliwlliw wow where do I begin? U prove me right b'cuz all U talk about is hate. U took a beautiful video of a blues genius & turned it into hate. My statement about the blues being 4 everyone was a quote from BB King, I guess he doesn't know anything right? As 2 where I fit in U genius, I was never a slave owner & U were never a slave. My family is 2/3 Cree N. American Indian & the 1/3 fought & died for your ancestors freedom. I will not let hate have room in my heart, how about you?

  • @smailliwlliw I didn't know this was a black panther meeting.

  • @straydogbluesman i was thinking the samething!!!hahaha

  • @4001XBASS At least, you're F****** right

  • man look at that crowd!!!!!!

  • the best of the best

  • "I'll Play The Blues For You" shrubhater

  • Cry baby cry...

  • He looks like a prisoner in the blue suit :P

  • @rfw1994 is it cause i'm black?!?!?!?!?!?

  • @BluezBro604 No no, it was because it reminded me of this episode from the A-team where they used rick james to play in a jail in order to free a friend. And all the prisoners were wearing the exact same thing as albert is wearing now, that's why.

  • @rfw1994 lol i was just bustin your chops i actually agree with u haha.

  • @rfw1994 lol i'm kiddin i'm a whitey hahahaha

  • alberts so precise and accurate here on fire

  • Smooth real smooth on that axe

  • Ak!

It's great that this performance is accessible here at all.

But it's torture that it's cut off barely halfway thru!

I spose 50% of something is still better than 100% of nothing...

Thanks for posting it here, bl.

  • Is that Hollywood Fats in the red shirt

    playing with Albert?

  • every time i play guitar i think of king

  • 0 dislikes. Perfect :)

  • hip to the blues

  • I respect Freddie and B.B. but Albert was King.Saw him w/ about 40 people - the King of the Blues.

  • wow, i come home drunk and google this and see myown comments from 3 weeks ago. it had to be more than 3 weeks ago but i'm still feelin it!!

  • The real deal !

  • You can´t do it better - ever.

  • i would fuck him. cause his guitar playing makes me cum

    rip mr albert king

  • GONE BUT CERTAINLY NOT FORGOTTEN. RIP MR. KING.

  • i wish these brothas could come back from the dead and see this shit and know that we still feelin it

  • i played this three times before i could finally pull it together enough to comment. this shit is soooo hot it's ridiculous

  • I've been a pro guitar player for most of my life... I always looked down on the blues . . . until I heard Albert King . . he was the master

  • anyone thats ever looked down on the blues is in the wrong state of mind. u got a hole in ur soul brotha. thats it. no helpin ya. id recommend u just curl up with ur metal grindcore or whateever the fuck makes u your money and die

  • @hockey2204 Didn't you hear the man? he said UNTIL I heard AK. He learned. He's alright.

  • @MiditheVeg sound more like a professional asshole.... "looked down on the blues...." pfffffffffffffffffffffffffffffffffffffffffffffffffffffffffffffffffffffffffffffffffffffffffffffffffffffffffffffffffffffffffffffffffffffffffffffffffffffffffffffffffffffffffffffffffffffffffffffffffffffffffffffffffffffffffffffffffffffffffffffffffffffffffffffffffffffffffffffffffffffffffff

  • I first heard this song and Albert King on University FM one night. Since then I have owned the "I'll Play the Blues for You" Cd 4 times. This is my go to song. Never get tired of it.

  • Hot Damn!!!

  • goodddd gooodddddd =D

  • @llusus: he is playing at the los angeles coliseum as part of a stax records celebration. there is a dvd with all / most of the performances of that day. it's nice.

  • Yes Lord..... sang it baby

  • Nice video, keep it coming. New release of BRANDON JAROD late OCT. AMAZING!

  • This is where STEVIE VAUGHAN got ALL of his Blues licks. You are lookin' at THE MAN! Albert was truly the very best at Phrasing, and at "Less is More" Just try to get tone like that with an upside down/backwards strung Gibson Flying V plugged straight into a 300 Watt ACOUSTIC SOLID STATE AMP! No Pedals, No Compression, No Echo, No Reverb, Not even a Guitar Pick! Whooo Eeeee! ALBERT BE DA MAN!!!

  • @dennisdullea that's what kills me the most, the great Tone he got out of that horrible amp. It's impossible not to love Albert King's playing.

  • @dennisdullea word.

  • @dennisdullea You said it all! Plus, he had a great voice to boot. All great comments abut a great blues man. Thanks so much for posting.

  • @dennisdullea

amen, said what I was going to say.

  • @dennisdullea correction on your comment, it WAS NOT a backwards strung V, it was a upside down V that was strung standard.

  • @radcam69 You are correct!

  • I agree! One bad dude! He lays into that Gibson with the round and soft happy tone. What a great player. Thats what is good about being self-learned.

  • @dennisdullea Don't forget his OTHER students, Eric Clapton, Jimi Hendrix, Jimmy Page, Buddy Guy, Keith Richards, do I have to go on?

  • Seen them all from the front row, biggest names like BB King, Buddy Guy, Eric Clapton, Robert Cray, and newer legends like Melvin Taylor (check him out). Albert King killed me dead, his playing and tone on guitar knocked the shit out of me and always will. I saw Albert King from the front row on 3-4 occasions and he was my favorite player by a mile!!!

    Thanks for posting this video!!!

  • @alanlomax100 Front Row? Front Row? DANG!!!!!!!!!!!! You are one blessed individual!!! And I am jealous!!!!!!
