This is redalandrew on a different account. I don't live there anymore. I live in buena park now. I have a pretty decent place there too. But nothing like the view in the buckingham. Sometimes I miss it there and sometimes I don't.
You don't get a ton of space for your own stuff do you? I will be a transfer in the fall on the 7th floor of the buckingham. at my old dorm they gave us each 2 book shelves that stacked nicely on the desks...so thats disappointing at how little space you get for that. Looks like I will be packing a bit lighter. How does the 7th floor compare, what i know is i have my own room.
Well, take a look at the video. that is what you get when you move in there. In terms of shelve space, no. but nothing says you cannot bring shelves. I brought 1 SUV full of stuff and found a place for it all. I even brought a mini fridge my second semester and second year there. It is a mix of wants vs. needs and clever arrangement to utilize your space needs. But i found that sharing a room yielded more space, usually. Some of the single rooms at the buckingham are really not what you pay for.
They CAN! but you have to have certain amount of credits you've earned on campus. I would say - spend a year on campus and get settled, then start looking for apartments.
From a security prospect, i am really glad i spent my first year on campus.
you can have 3 people over night for 2 consecutive weeks.
So mike, billy, and tommy stay over from friday til monday. 3 nights. They can't stay over another night until two weeks have passed. But that is under your name. you can sign them in under your roommates. But your roommate has to be the one to escort them through the building and has to physically go down to the security desk and sign them out...(Sometimes... :) )
Well, that's strictly a matter of opinion. I like it here, my roommates are a little more on the negative side. I don't really mind, the only thing that bugs me are the quiet hours. The RAs set their own limit on what they think is loud and intervene even though no one is complaining. BUT that's my only gripe. The places are nice (although i've seen some rooms that are really tiny for 1000 a month...IMO) but i landed a great room with some great people and thats what makes it count.
The fact that each unit has laundry and dryer and basic appliances is a big plus... The Security is top-notch and if your loan is paying for the place then you can set yourself on cruise control and just live out here... the guest privledges are good, 3 people per person per unit.if you get along with your roomies, its party time! and thats just to check people into the building. the building is 20 and up so you might be able to have booze in the unit. if you aren't 21 won't room you with 20 y o
It sounds awesome. I'm excited! I'll be 21 at the end of August so in time. lol I hope I get some Kick-ass roommates! That whole having a basic appliances is sounds amazing. I don't think the R.A.'s could be any more ridiculous then the ones at the college I'm going to now. (we have to be in our rooms at 11pm on week nights and 12 on weekends. We also have "room checks" like twice a week.) Its dumb.I can't wait to move up there. YAY! Thanks for your help and your advice :D
Well....When you move in...you have to be 21. If you are a transfer student you are required to move in two weeks early and because they do not want to advocate drinking they might put you in a 20 and over unit. 20 and over units are not allowed to have alcohol... as far as i know... i'm almost 24 so i dont know.... what floor are you on?
Well crap! That sucks. I don't know what floor I'm on yet, I haven't received my information. So all I know is that I'm in the buckingham. *sigh* o well I'll live.
this is nice and all but for niceness and stuff and also the price is good Dwight lofts just opened up and HOLEYYYY SHYYYT they have a 42' plasma in every room the furnature is wooden ikea stuff it looks really nice and its cumfy and yea...the parties over there like going to U of I hahaha
well ask yourself how much does it cost to live where you do? All totalled, it costs me and my three roomates 40,000 dollars to live in that one appartment.
Its cool, but i have to share it with three other guys... But, last semester two of my room mates were never around... so Chris and I had the whole place to ourselves... Good deal
lol cloumbia cribs. i cant wait to go there...even tho im justr a sophmore.... IM PLANNING ON IT! i really hope its worth it. i want to go there for either creative writing or photography. i need help deciding
Columbia is a really great school! They have a great writing and photography program. This is my dorm room for last year and this upcoming year. The buckingham is a really mature dorm, it really feels like an apartment building... kinda quiet... My roommate Chris and I hope it gets a little more lively but its great.
thanks this really helps alot. see where i live RISD ( rhode island school of design) is really close but i dont want to stay in RI and this looks liek a great school. do all the dorms look like this? cuz in fronk 2107 there dorm looked alot diffrent
Take the 21st floor for instance. No other dorm room on 21 looks like mine. But the rooms right above and below, from the 3rd-25th, all look like mine. That having been said, each floor has a different amount of rooms depending where the builders were allowed to build. Take the 7th for instance, the 7th floor has two more rooms, i think, that 21. This is because on 21, where those two rooms are, there is a "conference room" that the builders (i'm assuming) weren't allowed to build in.
Now, Columbia has deemed the Buckingham a 21 and over building for Transfer and returning students only. But there are other buildings that columbia either owns or rents. There is the University Center (which IMHO is Highschool 2.0), 2 east 8th (nice, but really slow elevators), Plymouth Court (no idea, never been), and 18 E. Congress (its a hostel i think....). Of all of them, the buckingham is the newest and nicest... but im sure whem you come along...there will be newer places to live.
Upperclassmen and Transfers students only. I think there may be a freshman or two here but primarily upperclassmen and transfers. I, myself, am a transfer student. The view is on a 21+ floor, which you are allowed to have alcohol in your room.
what dorm is this? is it the bugkinham?
