First video I've seen by this man but I see a man with his head on his shoulders and wants to educate america about whats going on behind their backs. SMP you just got a new subscriber
Noam Chomski talks about the idea of "distracting the masses" in great lengths in Manufacturing Consent. If you're interested in the topic definitely look into that.
@Wolfau5 I've seen tidbits of his work on youtube but haven't actually read the book. He was actually one of the first intellectuals I came across when I finally realized just how bad things are.
There's also a documentary by the same name which is good, either as a quick alternative to the book, or in addition to.
A trailer for it: [watch?v=7LVsiP0s33A]
Also another name worth knowing in my opinion on the topic is John Pilger, an Australian journalist who has done some amazing work in going after some of the big issues.
@smpunditz You should definitely read some of Chomsky's books. This man opened my mind about 25 years ago regarding all the big issues. His insight is razor sharp, and the book mentioned, Manufacturing Consent, is one of many, which I would highly recommend. I also read Ayn Rand's stuff, and absolutely despise most of her ideas. She was a champion for Social Darwinism if there ever was one + she lacks even a basic understanding of human nature. In her personal life, she was also a bully.
religion needs as many children as it can get, therefore it opposes gay rights and abortion. fuck religion, consider sustainability and natural law, move on.
First, awesome title. Great vid. The news always misrepresents it like there was this great compromise and the budget was reduced but what they don't tell you is WHAT got cut and what didn't. The compromise was that the rich and religious bullied the pres to give them more money or they would not pass his cuts as is and let the gov shut down or whatever. All about greedy powermongers. but, they'll get theirs when they kill the goose laying the golden eggs.
Expecting the banking institutions to display 'rational self-interest', by the very nature of their parasitic natures, is sort of like expecting a tapeworm to know when to stop devouring its host...it just doesn't happen that way. Most parasites kill and then move on to new hosts not realizing that eventually they'll be leeching off of their last available host. However, since that is far down the road they don't concern themselves with that reality.
I happen to appreciate much of Ayn Rand's thinking. However, as with most philosophers, she 'idealizes' human intellectualism. To assume 'rational self-interest', one must apply a certain degree of 'removed', de-fleshed empathy in order to be able to clearly see beyond one's own/corporate greed and avarice. In other words, out of control self-interest depletes the food-pool. It also engenders an ultimate revolutionary response from those being predated on.
When you've got artificially low interest rates and a bailout culture it is in the rational self interest of banking institutions and others to play fast and loose with money.
If you take away the non-risk inherent in the current system then self interest becomes more naturalised. By that I mean that the self interest of not wanting to risk losing money comes into play just as much as wanting to gain money. It's more stable.
i really like where your head is at on these issues. the mess we're in is so tangled and corrupt, its difficult imagine any solutions that don't require radical remedies.
We're in the mideast so we have access to oil & we want to make sure oil is sold in dollars. Saddam started selling oil in Euros during the embargo. Iran is developing an oil bourse to trade in Euros/Dinars.We have a petrodollar which insures the rest of the world holds US dollars as a reserve currency. If the world starts trading oil in currency other than dollars the dollar collapses. I'm guessing we're in Afghanistan because we don't want China having access to their minerals. Resources wars
You've got to break out of that left vs right paradigm BOTH sides support corporate america. The left is NO better than the right. Obama slashing 4 trillion over 12 years when budgets deficit are 1-2 trillion a year is a joke and that doesn't even include emergency apropriations for the war that he escalated. This country is headed for collapse.
@justintempler I stated that the Dems were in it as well. I did forget to mention certain facts like the CEO of G.E. is Obama's job's Czar or something. It is implicit when I say the only reason why the Dems adopted the healthcare issue, it was because of corporate interests. The problem however is not the Left ideologically, it is the Democratic party.
Sorry to put this so bluntly but No Shit not being able to catch Bin Laden so march thousands of troops to Iraq to go after Hussein instead, We are constantly being distracted from the hidden agenda (the truth) So I agree with you 100%
@Graffight Ayn Rand was a hypocrite just like Greenspan. That's why she thought the Europeans were justified in slaughtering the Native Americans. It's like saying Christians who are hypocrites aren't Christian. No true scottsman fallacies abound.
@smpunditz - No, when people say that chrisians are not sayint that they are not christians...they are saying that they are being hypocrites and not acting the way a christian should...likewise there is no way you could ever tie the existance of the FED being ok into ANYTHING that Ayn Rand said.
@Graffight you miss the point and (I presume on accident) misrepresent me. I am not suggesting that Ayn Rand was ok with the FED (although to my knowledge she was present when he was initiated or whatever they call it).
I am pointing out that his failure to regulate was due to his commitment to Randian philosophy. The fact that he is a hypocrite isn't even relevant.
@smpunditz - i see my apoligies then :o)...honestly i could care less what he does...the whole idea of the FED is pure evil in my opinion and it needs to be abolished. along with ALL government subsidies and welfare programs. The gov't needs to quit paying for things that people should be providing for themselves.
No biggie. I understand that it is easy to misunderstand someone you disagree with. That is essentially how our brains work.
On the other issue I am sure it is obvious to you by now that I don't believe in free markets (in fact I don't believe free markets could even exist) but that is a very general discussion and getting into a debate like that in the comment section is terribly laborsome so I'll have to let that go.
@smpunditz - "but that is a very general discussion and getting into a debate like that in the comment section is terribly laborsome so I'll have to let that go." makes sense :o)
I've also noticed how they use sex to distract people. Abortion, gay rights, celebrity gossip, etc. As long as we're fixated on what they consider irrelevant issues politicians and corporations (as if there's a difference) can get away with whatever they want.
if abortion is what prolifer's think it is, then the topic is VERY important. In fact it's just as important as murder which also affects a very small ammount of people.
@Graffight when the prolifer starts demonstrating the same level of concern for the people who are killed by our foreign policy as they do for fetuses I'll start taking their concern for life seriously.
Cosmic Panda sucks and makes your vids harder to follow can you change back your vids are awesome?

While the world is willing to fund America there's little hope your politicians will adopt sustainable economic policies.

@TruthSurge actually this is probably one of the few clever titles I didn't come up with myself :-)
Can't remember where I heard it though. Noam Chomsky maybe.
smpunditz 10 months ago
@smpunditz after i posted, i saw that same title in a vid in the sidebar and thought you might have not come up with it but good title anyway.

Please stop saying that Allan Greenspan follows Ayn Rand...if he did he wouldn't have anything to do with the fed...Rand HATED the fed.
