@PatrickRomSim Good grief dude. The whole anti-gay thing was way back in the 1970's. Let it go man, that was a long time ago. time to move on. Just listen to the songs. She had a pretty good voice.
Anita Bryant is the conscience of our disintegrating society, a civilization about to implode like Sodom and Gomorrah whose sins are crying for vengeance from heaven. We love you, Anita Bryant.
@pantomime1000 She dumped her first husband - the father of her children - when she got hot and horny for a new man. She didn't pay her employees the money earned working for her. (how many children went to bed hungry that night)? She recanted her comments on gay people to help her career get going again and then recantanted her recantment when that didn't work. Divorce detroys families and hurts children and yet she thumps the bible. It's sad that hypocracy is what you admire.
@pantomime1000 Okay, I guess this means you do agree with divorcing your family and stealing poeple's money. This was what my post was about. Have fun and God Bless you.
@swampzoid Do not use the name of God to denigrate other people. And do not you ever think for me. Who do you think you are, God? Your post was nothing but venom against a woman, and you wanted to speak ill of her to me and I did not listen to your prattle. Come on, dude, man up. As far as I am concerned, when a man talks ill against a woman who has done no ill to him, there is something wrong with his head.
I fell in love with Anita Bryant the first time I saw her on TV. She was also glorious in her heroic tour with Bob Hope to cheer our troops overseas. She was divine when she sang at the funeral of Lyndon B. Johnson who considered her the best singer. Maybe that was just a teen-age crush, but first love never ever dies. Then she disappeared in the 70's before AIDS struck her detractors and the Ayatollah ordered their execution. I love you, Anita Brant. You are the best.
Don't forget to listen to the other Anita Bryant hits! Such as! -I know the bible is right because it says in the bible -Gays have acid blood and eat children -Up the ass, they take it! -God will burn you all to hell FAGGOTS! -My husband was a closeted homo -Another song against gays! -Jesus touched me...in the inside -The lord is my savior and the fags are my punching bags -I'm a bigoted bitch -I had a pie in my face... But that doesn't make me a devil lesbian! All those classic are on itune
I have to agree with you VinylNostalgia1 100% but what I don't think I can ever understand is why these celebrities who careers are fading into oblivion or already have faded out use controversial social issues in our society to try to jumpstart their careers over again just to get back into the public eye and I can't believe how they don't know that they're destroying their legacy they built up all these years, just doesn't make sense. Thanks for sharing with me.
I guess in their mind they believe that bad publicity is better than no publicity! The tabloids print bad publicity rather than the good because that's what people want to read...unfortunately!
Yeah, I can understand that her opinions are what got her in trouble. She should not have said all those things being in the limelight like that. I'm just trying to look at the good side of her but without that talent, she would have been just another ordinary person protesting the rights of gays. It's no doubt that her legacy has been tarnished forever!
I believe her career was pretty much over already when she started voicing her homophobic opinions. Now days she is more remembered for her prejudice opinions than for her beauty queen days or singing career. It's a shame she had to open her mouth and destroy her legacy. Some (past their prime) celebrities go to extremes to stay in the public eye, Michael Jackson or Brittany Spears comes to mind.
Still have that 45 you see on top that I bought in 1961. No matter what people think about her, she had to have some talent otherwise how could she be Miss Oklahoma and record hit songs. And her version of Paper Roses is far superior than Marie Osmond's. Marie sounded like a little girl which she was at that time.
@VinylNostalgia Bryant was one of the greatest female singers ever, without question. Unfortunately for her and her career, she took an unpopular stand on an unpopular subject at an inopportune time. Had she kept a low profile on the subject, regardless of her convictions, she would still be singing. She was shouted down and stripped of her voice - she was not allowed an opinion.
Indeed. Anita finished 2nd runner-up (3rd place) for 1959 Miss America. She was by far the prettiest in my opinion. I've watched that pageant two or three times, so I know how she looked. Her talent portion was superb, too.
Awesome! A Classic! Anita Bryant possessed a besutiful voice. Her original is sooo much better than Marie Osmond's 70s version. It's ashamed that there isn't more classic Anita Bryant recordings on cd.
I realize the ways your eyes deceived me
With tender looks that I mistook for love
So take away the flowers that you gave me
And send the kind that you remind me of
Paper roses, paper roses
Oh, how real those roses seemed to be
But they're only imitation
Like your imitation love for me

@swampzoid Are you jealous?
Man up, dude, you claim to be a poet, a musician and whatever,
and now you sound like a madman with this gossipy rant.
Sinner or saint, she is a woman,
And a woman must be loved by men.
Or have you forgotten that you are supposed to be a man?

Word to the wise: Self righteous kibitzers should first learn how to spell the word h-y-p-o-c-r-i-s-y
before they ever accuse someone of having admired it.

I don't believe most people are critical about her singing talents at all, it's her prejudice opinions that offend them.
