the slant six produced gobs of torque because of its long stroke and small bore. 3.40" bore and 4.125" stroke. this means it does not rev nearly as high as most newer engines that use larger bores with shorter strokes that produce more power in higher rpms
We once did a slant 6 with an old Buick turbo draw-thru system. Ran well up to 15 PSI. Never heard of cooked oxygen and we didn't even run intercooler since the C/R was only 8-1. Cooked oxygen?-give me a break! Oxygen is an element, not a molecule. It is still stable at 4,500 degrees. I see that you can now buy chromoly H-beam rods for the slant. With good slugs and bottom-end studds, it should be unbreakable. Gene Adams ran a 392 Chrysler at 50 lbs boost with no intercooling. No problem.
@Shaker223 Once the oxygen is cooked, it's cooked, You don't get it back by cooling the air. Higher boost will only reduce turbo lag(assuming your not using a vgt)
@mageac If the oxygen is burned up before it even leaves the turbo(cause some moron turns the boost too high), a intercooler won't make a difference. You might as well point a flame thrower in the intake and use the block as an air tank.
THIS ENGINE IS GODLIKE...LASTED 38 MINS REDLINED WERE THE FORD AND HOLDEN MOTORS STOPPED IN 9-12MINS....NEXT MORNING WE TOPPED EM ALL UP WITH WATER AND OIL..ONLY THE HEMI SPLUTTERED ..CLANGED..AND UNBELIEVABLY TURNED OVER AND STARTED....SLANT 6 SECOND TO NONE!!!!
Beautiful. I've always wanted to build a turbo slant 6. Right now I have a turbo Volvo redblock I4, it's a durable engine just like the slant 6. It can take over 20psi easily with a good tune. Some day I want to build a Turbo slant 6 A body. A true sleeper like my Volvo 240.
I had a 60 Dodge Dart Phoenix (big mutha 4-door sedan) with about 175k on the odometer. Slant 6 225, 3 on the tree, couldn't hurt that lil ol motor, no matter how you tried. I was in the Usaf at the time (early 70's) so I occasionally had access to 115/145 AVGAS. 5 gallons in a tank of regular with the proper timing adjustment, that thing would FLY!!!! AND....it had buzzin' 1/2 dozen painted on the left front fender LOL. Wish I still had it now. Always loved the slantie!!!
Dose anyone know what year chrysler lost all their brains and quit making slants??If anyone loves chrysler dodge products its me so i got a right to say that.Got 74 plymouth valiant 85chrysler 5th avenue and 67dodge truck. They should be making new rams with fuelinjected slants instead of ole v6s i hate them things.I really love the old wide block 318 in my truck too. Your slant sounds great man thanks..
The leaning tower of power, the buzzin half dozen! If you only knew what I have put one of these motors threw and it survived! INCREDIBLE motors. For that matter, all of the early chrysler ingines especially the 383 and 727 torque flight trans :)
Wow....if you wanna see something even more indestructible, check out a 7 bolt Ford 200 I6....You can beat on those things like it's nobody's business and they don't complain.
@Shaker223 i would appreciate if you tell me why id it held together at 21 pound of boost is it forged from the factory ? proper air to fuel ratio + high octane ?
@faisalabulaziz1 ...pistons are cast from the factory but rods and crank are forged. I kept the tune rich (11.2 AFR) and used a mix of 110 octane and premium 93 fuels.
If i remember correctly and i think i do i rebuilt the 225 slant in my dodge truck. And the crankshaft weights 85 pounds. Its a monster those giant lobes when you get that thing turning like 3,000 rpms heck you got some power.I think the big crank is why slants have such small pistons it all works out anyway..
hey i gotta 71 dart and i wanna know wat u did to your car because i really wanna do the same to my car and i gotta slant 6.... that was an awesome video thank you
Turbocharged Slant Six. Along with Hemi engines, Slants were Chryslers best engines. Plus, I can use my experience with Nissan L-series straight-six engines and turbo'ing them to an advantage. What EFI are you running, by the way?
Wow, that is interesting... Personally I'd go EFI, but I love mixing old and new, haha. Great job on the car, anyways. What are you running on the 1/4, and what mileage you getting?
did you get it dynoed after you built that custom header and got all the pipe chromed. cuz if you did that header made you some damn good power increases. from 259 to 296. wow. im gonna do this soon. i have a turbo off a wrx that can run 22psi. im plan on making headers and a 4bbl aluminum intake. btw where did you get the flanges for your headers?? machine shop, cnc machine or what??
I have ran this engine low on oil and mis- treated it severely. You can not kill this engine if you tried. any slant six dodge ran like a mofo. Show me a car from that era, that handled rpms like that... Even the best small block v8 would burn out before the slant started to sweat.
try putting the wrong cam in one... and missing one too many shifts... the tattle tale in the tach showed over 7200 rpm when the crank broke... hole in the block was big enough to throw a cat through. was fun while it lasted though...
Can't believe all the ? about the stock bottom end holding up! This is the best motor ever built. Mines close to 400hp out of stock block, rods, bearings and oil pump (swather motor). Good Job Shaker and can't wait for the new setup!
225 slant 6... one of the best engines ever built. I put 307,000 miles on a 1970 Dodge Dart with a slant 6. The body fell apart but the engine was still going strong!
I could not describe the way I feel any better. I ad 2 73 swingers one slant 6 three speed and one 318 auto. I blew the differential on the slant six and put the 318 factory diff in there. The slant six dusted so many idiots it broke my heart... but made me feel good doing it:) That engine revved as high as I would take it. And I abused it.
Cams with less inlet duration r often fitted to turbo engines, mine has 20 degrees less inlet than exhaust, non turbo inlet/exhaust duration the same, tried the longer cam and lost power big time!
It doesn't even need a good tune. I've got one in my '74 Dart and its pushing 700,000 miles and I can still rev it to 4000 drop it into 1st and burn the tires off it.
Looking gor a good 71 demon to build a factory prototype with. In 1988 at mopar nationals i bought the prototype intake and exhaust chrysler was devloping for a turbo slant 6 program but it was dropped in favor of 340 devlopment.

I'll never understand why people turn the boost so high. At some point the turbo will start to cook the oxygen before it even gets to the intake.
giberish9 1 year ago
@giberish9 ...more boost = more power and if the turbo is sized properly, intercooled, and/or methanol utilized then heating the air is not an issue.
Shaker223 1 year ago 6
@Shaker223 Once the oxygen is cooked, it's cooked, You don't get it back by cooling the air. Higher boost will only reduce turbo lag(assuming your not using a vgt)
giberish9 1 year ago
@giberish9 with a proper set up a turbo can make tons of boost... high output diesels can run 100 psi in a racing configuration.
mageac 10 months ago
@mageac If the oxygen is burned up before it even leaves the turbo(cause some moron turns the boost too high), a intercooler won't make a difference. You might as well point a flame thrower in the intake and use the block as an air tank.
giberish9 10 months ago
@giberish9 FACT: oxygen is not flammable
STOCK diesels run at over 30 psi quite often, im sure the engineers of the new clean burning diesels could learn from you
mageac 10 months ago
@mageac Water ain't flammable either but it can still be burned up. I wasn't talking diesel. Diesels have lower exhaust gas temps.

just have to have a oil pump up grade.

good job
