Mod is not a religion or a cult its a subculture.
I lived it for many years and was fortunate to gain an understanding of what it was REALLY about. Its about more than just fashion and scooters its a political statement.

paul weller didnt want his song to be used in a jeans ad but was fully willing to have 'town called malice' used in the movie 'billy elliot' hypocrit!
As harsh as this sounds, I don't mean any offence.
He kinda looks like Gary Neville here...

What's up with the crucifix? I have always assumed he would be "non-religious."

@mad4mtl It's nice symbol. but few of his songs are some things about god etc. maybe he believes theres one?
Or he just appreciates.

Weller squeezes more wit and insight into a single sentence than most pop musicians do in their whole speaking lives.

Interesting concept ...'Mod as a religion'.

Why? "Billy Elliot" is a great film framing the miner's strike which Weller was in favor of! As opposed to jeans made in Egypt by child labor.

Great interview!
And no, I don't find Paul to be uncomfortable in this clip. Not compared to others I've seen.
Wossy just has a knack for getting along with anyone, and even old Wellaaah is no exception.
Incidentally, I'm always amazed by how Paul's voice has always sounded like a middle-aged blues man.
Even when he was in his 20's!
It's a bit like a cross between Stevie Winwood and Eric Clapton, I suppose.
Not a bad thing!

One thing strikes me here is how uneasy Paul is. However probably thinking "how the f**k are you to question me"...The man is class..
