Ok this vid is about frozen targets not getting un-frozen when a mage crit on them. It was a nerf to the mechanics of the talent called Shatter, not to Ice Lance. Basically a mage could spam Ice Lance (or any spell for that matter) and keep shattering the target repeatedly without breaking the freeze, which was out-right overpowered.

Blizz changed it so that now you have a very high chance of breaking the freeze when you shatter a target. So there's still a small chance of it not breaking.

"good gear" meaning atleast 1.1k spelldamage, trinketed, and against ZERO resil. Yes, then maybe (*maybe*) you could pull off a 2.8k ice lance. Though I still highly doubt it.

That, or you have to be specc'd 33/0/28 for Arcane Power + Ice Lance.

Truth is, Ice Lance doesn't tend to hit more than 2k for me (PvP gear).

Current info about the new mage spells is pretty appauling tbh, we get a combined frost/fire spell which will only activate the element of the spell which the target has less resistance to. So if it has less resistance to frost, frost/fire will do frost

Our iceblock which makes us TOTALLY IMMUNE can be dispelled

Ah true about that rooting nerf Mages are extremely underpowered when being attacked We must have the first attack to be able to overpower someone. We get inturrupted way too easily. We have very few instant cast spells as a frost mage. Instance cast: Ice lance = Only good damage when target frozen Arcane explosion = we're not exactly arc spec.. Cone of cold = Cool down takes too long. Fireblast = Effective but cool down.. omg x.x If we're inturrupted too much, we suck =\

As long as you have good crit rate and spell dmg, ice lance can be really helpful.

Frost nova > Frost bolt + Instant ice lance

I can do 5k frostbolt and 3k icelance when target frozen.

In pvp I do:

Frost Nova > FB+IL then summon pet and freeze target again then repeat FB+IL which will do 10K - 16K dmg.

a great way to save a friend in need is to pop the elemental and use Freeze on the two players fighting, freezing the enemy and finishing em off. resilience or not it'll hurt ;)

frostie mages are one of the best pvp classes. the tip is right when you see the target is frozen, cast frostbolt, then instantly hit the button for ice lance the instant frostbolt finishes casting. the global cooldown is already over so it should look like the ice lance is part of the frostbolt. aka even an undergeared frost mage can do 4000-5000 damage within 3 seconds of freezing a target.

It was nerfed for quite awhile and crits dealt when enemies were frozen used to have almost a 100% chance to break it. They later changed it back to where enemies above level 60 had a higher chance to break nova, rather than crits nearly always breaking it.

those are ice lances, a lvl 66 frost spell. Its an instant cast with a 1.5 sec cooldown. Pretty awesome, respeced my mage to arc/frost just because of that one spell. Doing 1.7k crits consistantly. Throw in a fireblast in between icelances and your looking at around 2500 dps.
