Wonderful journey. Great stopovers at Alice Springs and Katherine. The Top End is a wonderful destination. Not sure what train Max5941 was travelling on, but it definitely wasn't The Ghan!

The Ghan is a very dangerous train if you don't close your window at night when you are in the middle of the desert. Its -10degree celsuis. You will freeze to death.
WTF? 1936? The Ghan's first complete journey (i.e. complete to Alice Springs by rail, not partly by camel) was in 1929. The first journey to Darwin as in 2004. I have no idea where 1930-anything came from.
When my sister was six, I told her that the Australian army trained kangaroos during the First World War to carry ammunition in their pouches to the troops in the trenches. And...she believed me!
our 8ft kanga's are the ones still in the pouch , wait till yah meet mum and dad .

I took the Ghan from Adelaide to Alice in 1988 - that's as far as it went then. Glad to see it goes the whole way to Darwin now.

world's most pointless train journey. Nothing to see at the beginning, nothing to see in the middle and nothing to see at the end.
