Having ridden in a couple Tuplovs they sure are awesome jets. One of the best spool-up and thrusts from any aircraft ever, you can feel it inside your body as much as you can hear it. The only aircraft that sounds better upon take-off is the old DC-10 which were super loud, but the Tuplov is more aesthetic for sure.

Not all that similar to 727 - These guys have negative wings (pointing towards the groud) and their landing gears are two rows, 6 tires on each (727 has only 4 in total if i'm right) oh and last but not least, 727 has a tighter butthole - I like the way this plane looks and sounds, but the safety record is a little close to horrible (check wiki)

@killman369547 In the "old"days there were 3 tri jets ( single aisle ), 727, TU154, and the Trident. I think all were superb, but I think the 154 was really more beautiful and romantic, just like I feel the good old DC-10 was more majestic of all jumbos ever built, even comparing the A380, regards.

Oh yeah...some will argue the MD-80 was a POS...but from what i hear from the pilots who flew them, they enjoyed the work horse. Word is that is was built like a tank and was fun to fly....

This is THE BEST TU-154 video on youtube. Great landing, smooth touchdown, thrust reverse is clearly seen and heard, and the takeoff is perfect too. Well done.

Did you heard the enginges whine at take off? Thats why they are banned, I suppose there are also pollution reasons. By the way best triple turbine sound forever!! Also quickest gear retraction I've ever seen, just barely a second after take off...

Yes of course i heard it (and i like it^^) but if that is the case why do they still fly to many destinations in Europe? I suppose they are only banned to land in some countrys but allowed to cross over in the ordernary airplanecorridors..

The reliability of the Tu-154 till 1990 was on 99,9%, in the Aeroflot fleet.

I don´t think they are the most dangerous airplanes. They may crash (relatively) very often but these planes were also built in huge numbers. They are very noisy and very fuel-uneconomic as other airplanes ( for example from USA ) that come from the 60´s and that are still run by many airlines...

If you look up their safety, they are actually ranked above average out of all the airlines. Never mind the fact that 99% of the crashes are caused by lack of maintenance by some of the poor third world countries that fly them...
