Lake Ice Sounds

I live here so we hear it all the time. If you're on the ice and it happens below you its really loud and you can feel it in your legs....freaks people out if they've never heard/felt it before.

is that dangerous? I was on a lake and was actually jolted by ice after a similar sound. It had been below freezing for over 2 days straight, but needless to say, I got off.

i remember one year when the pond out back had a ring of ice around it, really thin ice mind you, but hey that's something in Florida!
