Working for a med mal defense attorney, I went to our "expert" neurologist with a list of symptoms. I had fallen and hit my head two months previously, and the symptoms came on slowly. The neurologist toldl me I was simply "stressed" and "depressed" due to my heavy work load (funny, I had handled such a work load for 20 years). A month after accepting this quack's diagnosis, I had a complete breakdown. Only recently was I correctly diagnosed. More doctors need to LISTEN to their patients!
My TBI went undiagnosed for 25 years. Now that I am educating myself about TBIs and their effects, I can look back and can see how my TBI has strongly interfered in my life. I am sure that if my TBI had been recognized and I had received ANY help for it at all, my lot in life would probably be a better one (at least in some regards). But now, 25 years after the fact, what's done is done, but the deleterious effects of my TBI never stop - and sympathy is in short supply.
