I really liked the Drama material as well. Always imagined what that music might have sounded like with Jon's vocal range and lyrical input after the fact. Even going back and altering vocal arrangements if necessary. That would have been very interesting for me (and I'm guessing a few others). That's essentially what happened with 90125 to a degree. Coming in so late in the project and adding vocals and changing some lyrics here and there.
I only say, thanks God, some live material from the wonderful Drama album after so long ... better than the Drama days (Trevor Horn's singing troubles). No matter how far this line-up is from the original one .. they did the right thing.
This Benoit guy, he is an impersonator. The voice you hear is not his natural singing voice! How the rest of the band could lower themselves to..... Oh shit - the Buggles are coming back to haunt me - lol
I didn't get to see this tour. Now since they did this "Drama" song with Benoit singing like Jon did the band also do any "Relayer" songs? I hear that Rick Wakeman usually avoided those songs (correct me if I'm wrong). Would his son Oliver have the band do "Relayer" songs on the tour?
Oliver has said he liked Relayer, despite his dad hating it. I dont think its up to Oliver though. Jon was the one that avoided Drama songs, despite Chris, Steve and Alan wanting to play them. I think Chris always felt that if Trevor wasnt singing them, and Geoff wasnt keying them they would save them for another time and place. I think they agreed the time was now to break them out. Benoit handles these vocals rather well I think. Then again its the contrast of Trevor to Jon.
Benoit is a karaoke-singing-croissant who behaves, looks and sounds like a ridiculous faerie!
On the other hand, Chris Squire, a once great musician, has descended to the depths of mediocrity to become nothing more than a hideous parody of his former self.
Of course, given that deplorable state of affairs, it is perfectly logical that only a pathetic-turd-brain-moron (LIKE YOU!) would appreciate what they do "as well as they do it"!
Say what you will about relative merits of the replacements. . this is a song that YES should have included in their live performances years ago. If Howe can suck it up and play 'Loner,' Jon should have acquiesced on this one.
My sense was that both Steve and Chris were trying to be particularly supportive to Benoit and Oliver, the latter seeming quite uncomfortable trying to fill his father's shoes (can you blame the poor guy). There were a number of sound glitches (to be expected this early in a tour), and Oliver definitely screwed up a few times. I'm looking forward to seeing the 11/22 show in Westbury.
A brilliant show, particularly given the grody venue. Looking at the rest of the tour I think it was more of a warm-up show. Benoit was great, and I absolutely agree with the other comments that he has a tough gig and pulled it off w/class and style.
Steve was SMOKIN' Not only were his fingers flying as fast as they ever have, his stage presence was about 10x what I've ever seen in the 15 or so times I've been lucky enough to see them since 1980 (the original Drama tour, as it happens).
Rick Wakeman once said something to the effect that he could see the band Yes continuing indefinitely, like a classical orchestra. That said, this is strange to see and hear, but interesting nevertheless, because they can now play material from Drama. All props to Benoit David just the same. He has a tough gig! Unless they are willing to do material with him though, it seems that this just an attempt to buy time for Anderson to get well and make some coin in the process, which is fine by me.
yeah !! what is it with the same annoyng comment in every in the present vid posted on you tube made by this guy (scook41) ???? ... What it is important is that the Yes legacy still kicks asses and that these guys have made a terrific job..of course we hope that Jon will get well and back soon, but why not allowing other persons (like in the Yes tradition) to contribute with their talents as Benoit and Oliver have done !!
I think it would be cool if they had huge LCD computer screens in the background with special Roger Dean art morfing into animation (and include animated 90125 & 80's yes graphic..) Bring it into digital.. DRAMA 2.0!!
P.S. Then they would have to come to my city (KC Mo.) so I could see it.. :-)
It was an odd venue, but from our seats very close to the stage it was an incredible show! Steve Howe was ON FIRE! Hearing songs from Drama was awesome! Thanks for the video!

What a scene...whilst Benoit David dresses, prances-about and sings like a gay mosquito, Chris Squire hovers over him like a whale out of water!
