  • 西原高校最高!

    ずっと応援してます(^_^)

  • love this vid

  • i like how at the end the instructors like "good job, now beat it."

  • While your'e referencing DCI groups to these guys, I'm still waiting for one of them to actually do the second movement of the Dies Irae.

  • They use contras! :)

  • They use contras!

  • Cleanest drill ever...

  • I don't understand why so many people like to hate on this band just because they're from Japan. Nishihara's drill is some of the cleanest drill work I've seen. And people like to think their brass isn't as powerful as our brass just because they're not from "Americcuh". Really, people? I haven't heard brass this good since I just got done watching the Bluecoats. Oh, and when was the last time you heard brass listening down to the woodwinds? Balance!! C'mon, give credit where credit is due.

  • verdis requiam omfg

  • absolutly amazing. wish i could be there. are there any corps there that have woodwinds?

  • The part from 7:43 to 7:50 looks like part of the ending from The Cavaliers' Niagara Falls show.

  • When they turned around at 2:02 ... jeez..

  • Aside from some pitch problems in the trumpets (throughout the show... especially on chords with some really annoying out-of-tune inner voices), this is one of the best marching ensembles I've seen. This is Top 5 drum corps good marching-wise. I find it difficult to compare high school music to drum corps because the instrumentation of the ensembles is just so different. That said, I've heard worse sounds come from a lot of Top 12 drum corps.

  • They make ausies look fucking PRO

  • If there was a International High School Band, there would be no contest that this band would most likely win :D.

    VERDI'S REQUIEM FTW!

  • @imgame2121 There basically is...WAMSB...World Association of Marching Show Bands lol

  • 1:15..

  • 3:20 was awesome

  • If I was a judge I would give the a 7-10 cause they need help on spacing and strait lines they suck so bad McHI best

  • Do these guys even need woodwinds?

  • what are they marching on and where are they at? like i mean a building or what?

  • Haha Japan Trumpets can't scream!!!!!

  • @TxRaider13 They aren't trying to. They're balancing sound unlike most bands and their brass instruments, so the woodwinds can be heard, and they do so nicely.

  • If they are this good, then they should be a corps!

  • thumbs up if you cant even draw a circle as good as those!

  • What is the music/score being used???

  • Comment removed

  • @dauiske79

    It's all from Verdi's Requiem.

  • @robbpeppertree I may be wrong but some parts sound like "Songs of Grace and Songs of Glory" by John Philip Sousa. (The beginning and some of the balled portions of the show)

  • this isnt even funny!

  • where can I buy this score at?

  • Other nations are going to beat the US in a lot of areas, not just music. Except for the military, there has been continual political pressure to reduce government including arts funding. Therefore, less government funding for arts = less public interest in the arts=lower quality instruction= fewer hs music programs.

  • カラーガード隊と音楽隊が素晴らしくマッチ

  • HOW?!?!?! i seriously am ashamed to be an american......

  • Please, the name of that show and the songs?

  • Wow...This Band would just own L.D Bell, Avon, or any other top high school marching band in the US. They are just so freaking amazing.

  • I wouldn't cal them better than World Class corps, playing and on a hard floor , inside makes things easier. Plus the Japanese School systems allows a lot more time for things like this. I am sure if American High Schools let bands practice as much as these guys do, they would be just as good. Its really all a matter of how much investment you want to put into marching. Not to take anything away fromt hese kids, they damn good.

  • @SageLord How does the Japanese school system allow more time for band?

  • 2:02 some one had trouble keeping that note!

  • this band would beat the shit out of avon

  • @ It w1digidude You are totally right. There's no doubt in my mind that they could beat any of the famous BOA winning bands. This band played their opener, Dies Irae more cleanly than how Avon played it when Dies Irae was their opener in 2007 when I was a freshmen.

  • i really dont understand what it is about the japanese that make them so much better, but they are! It's probably just their work ethic. Americans tend to be lazy. I wish that work ethic would rub off on America's youth.

  • @shiresman47 team spirit and mentality. one of the highest in the world

  • Just curious, is that their director conducting them?

  • 西原高校さすがですね

  • Damn that was a good show but you have to consider, everything sounds better when played inside. It is much easier to stay in tune in a tempature controlled environment then it is outside with the cold weather as it gets later in the season like most areas in the U.S. Plus ouside, that piccolo solo would need a microphone and that's probably a wood piccolo.

But once again, damn they're good.

  • This could be the blue stars in disguise O.O

  • incredible performance!!

  • would destroy LD Bell, Marcus, Avon, and a billion other good bands. not sayin they suck cuz Bell, Marcus, and Avon are REALLY EXTREMELY GOOD!!! BUT THIS BAND IS AMAZING ITS FREAKY!!!!!! AWSOME!!!!!

  • this puts BOA and USSBA to shame.

  • Anybody know where I could buy this arrangement for a standard high school marching band? This video is proof that it would make for an awesome field show.

  • @RJValentine13 the likelyhood of this arrangement being for sale is very slim, as it's very likely to be a custom arrangement.

  • @cascadesmelloando it is absolutely a custom, but if one were to got hold of the creator, and be fluent in japanese, then they could take a shot at it...

  • Does anyone how big the field is? (Marching Square)

  • it is 30m x 30m and i think they can go over 5m beyond the quare. i believe that white part is 30m x 30m and the gray part is extra 5m. I remember when I was in the competition like over 10 yrs ago, that was the rule so if they havent changed, then it is the rule and they are pretty strick about those lines. If you go over the line, you get penalties.

  • 7:31 to the end is as good of drill as you will ever see a band of this age group perform. Phenomenal

  • They did it just as well as the cavies in 2000!

  • @BRUXXUS Ummmm, they might be able to make DCI top 12, but they're not champion material. its just not quite clean enough.

  • Oh yeah no doubt, I was just talking about the drill move they did!

  • hei what song they play...

  • verdi's requiem

  • this is probably one of the best high school bands in the world.........these guys could maybe be compared to open class drum corps not world class ones

  • @imfunny97 Drill wise and music wise? Yeah, they definitely compare to some of the world class.

  • @Fumbles9001

Maybe low world class, but no way do they stand up to the "upper tier" of world class. Still quite amazing though

  • @supercellcoaster No, BD or Cavies, but definitely could be up there.

  • how can they march in a square? lol

  • weird.... marching bands marching in formation!!!

  • This is by far the best band I've ever seen. And yes, I've watched drum corps. 0:59, what's the title of that song?

  • @RJValentine13 Dies Irae (Requiem by Verdi)

  • dies irae from verdi's requiem

  • oh my gosh.

i hate them only because i admire them so much!!! wow. well..,.

im in a freshy marching band, along w/ the #2 Marching Band in Michigan. but wow. these ppl are good!

  • wow you guys are fighting over dumb stuff, dci, drum corp, BOA, ext. it all has to do with marching band and they all have thier weak and strong points, thier all very close to being the same. jus watch them, learn a few things and leave a nice comment. no need for all the crap yall are leaving behind. oh and by the way comeaux high rule lmao. and this is a really good show.

  • We dont need all this hating

  • Ld Bell aint got nothing on Nishihara! I am in LD Bell's region and we go 1,2,3, with them every year. They are all about politics. I hate bands like them, its a badn monopoly. There are alot of good bands out there that dont get the publicity or are younger so they don't have judges preference. Judges will sit on the edge of their chairs for LD Bell, Marcus, and Reagan but wont give younger bands the time of day.

  • @DoesNotEqual16

Texas is a whole different animal than the rest of the band world.

I worked as an audio engineer for the BOA regional in San Antonio and I was blown away with the quality of the Texas groups. LD Bell had a harder music book this year than NIshihara had.

  • I you all like bands like this I suggest you check out Tarpon Springs High School. They definitely have had just as much visual demand and more musical demand (executed well) in 2008 and 2009

Also Avon High School and LD Bell High School could give Nishihara a run for its money. BOA is a lot better nowadays then most people think...

  • *If*

  • Nishihara competes at world competitions, I doubt any American band could achieve that.

  • Comment removed

  • those trumpets are awesome at 1:58

  • ...daaamn....just watching this band made me feel like I never want to march again....they're so...intense...and epic....like just...damn...

  • This is ridiculous... also, did anyone notice that the first score was the music to Harry Potter Quiddich World Cup (the video game?)... I wish that my marching band was this PHENOMENAL. Five stars.

  • dam they are like sizzling good

i wish i could play indoors lol

but throwing the rifles and stuff would be limited again

  • wow it burned my eyes it was so good... 5:10 trombone out of the slant.. :\

  • puahaha!! yes indeed. :)

  • juela que buena esta la banda

  • My high school preformed this same show three years ago.. we looked like crap compared to this.. Lol.

  • I'm not surprised at all. I was a performance major in undergraduate and graduate school. Nearly all my close friends were from somewhere in Eurasia. They were the ones practicing with me, when everyone else was partying. I didn't want to party; I wanted to practice.....same for them. I've learned that people in Eurasia tend to have a TON more pride in what they do, than americans.....and no - I'm not trying to talk down on my country (I spent time in the Marines).....but I'm not surprised!

  • this is a high school, not a corps

  • thats a highschool?

    god damn

  • agreed...that's why we have Bands of American and not Bands of the World!!! lol, because they would win!

  • haha yeah...uhh so yeah same league as blue devils? no but in some aspects wayyyy better than most American Marchingbands...but again this is indoor. haha

  • but also they dont have any yard lines or hashes, only 4 quadrants way harder. plus the echo's of a gym are a bitch to play in.

  • how do you think drum corps used to be? lol

  • there drill was still VERY VERY VERY demanding. as hard as some DCI drill.

  • I wouldn't Say they're in the same league as the Blue Devils, they band actually has Balance so I'd say they're more like Phantom or Crown

  • this is the only band that I have heard where you can hear the bells in the company front loud parts. It sounds almost choral to me... its cewl.

  • Amen.

  • Um...no. You do NOT know what you're talking about. Phantom and Crown are infintely better than what they're portrayed as in Youtube videos.

But you probably wouldn't know, since you're probably a fat-ass bando thinking corps is only what you see in YOUTUBE videos.

If you've actually MARCHED or SEEN a DCI world class drum corps show, you'd know this Jap band doesn't compare in the least...but you don't. So shut the fuck up about stuff you don't have a CLUE about.

  • hahaha you are funny

    A) I was joking, hoping that someone would get angry over nothing. I was simply saying that the blue devils trumpets usually overpower the rest of the corps and I don't here that here

    B) I've marched Colts and Blue Stars for the past two seasons respectively, so I would say I do know what I am talking about

    C) Have you seen a Japanese band live? If you haven't then how can you compare them? You kinda pulled a Sarah Palin there and contradicted yourself

  • No. You did not say anywhere that the "blue devils trumpets usually overpower the rest of the corps".

Also, I don't need to watch Nishihara live. This is a band. You compare them with a two-time champion corps (Phantom), 12 time champion corps (Blue Devils), and a silver-medalist/Jim Ott corps (Crown). Obviously, they are NOT in the same league.

And I would have thought a Colts/Blue Stars corps member would understand this...

  • whatever dude

I wasn't trying to bring down drum corps in anyway. Sorry if I offended you, but I was wondering if someone would and it entertained me very much

  • How drole. Your argument basically is this: This band cannot compare to a corps because it's a band. Non-sequitur. What are the qualifications "higher league"? First, you must be a corps? Come on now. Silly, don't you think? I get it: you prefer drum corps to bands. No problem. But to attack and castigate someone's comment in the manner you did is silly and immature. Enjoy what you enjoy. But using phrases such as obviously this...or you're probably that...

Get a grip and grow up.

  • Bands cannot compare with WORLD CLASS corps because they are comprised of the world's best high school and college musicians. People from Europe AND JAPAN come all the way to America to march in DCI.

DCI also happens to be "Marching Music's Major League", aka the NBA or NFL of marching band...ask any band director of any college or high school. Especially the band director of Nishihara, whom I believe marched DCI...

  • Most of the world's best musicians are in conservatories developing their craft. They're not out on marching fields between the months of June and August. But that doesn't take away from the musicianship of DCI participants. So Enjoy. I just think it's rather silly for people to make much ado about nothing.

  • Actually...many top musical groups in North America have participated in DCI activities. Canadian Brass...ever heard of them? They worked with Brass Theatre (aka Blast, which formed from the ex-members of Star of Indiana Drum and Bugle Corps). And United States Marine drum and bugle corps, the "Commandant's Own", has competed in DCI.

  • Yes, I know about Canadian Brass and the USMC band. Interesting thing about Brass Theatre, aka BLAST. To illustrate my point about one man's musical treasure is another man's jug band: Have you read any critical reviews of BLAST? Not great. Did I enjoy BLAST? Immensely, but I'm very familiar with the activity, and I appreciated what Jim Mason was trying to do. Not everyone gets it, nor do they care. Again, ENJOY. Just appreciate others have a different view, my oh my, yeah yeah yeah.

  • BTW the Emmy BLAST! won was for Best Choreography - not really an acknowledgement of the group's musicianship. I'll share this story: When I was at university, I showed my music prof Star's 1993 show, commenting on the sophistication of the design, drill, costuming, music, etc. Her comment to me was: I don't know if I would call it sophisticated. She's a music prof with a doctorate. My point? WORLD CLASS is relative svolypet. Continue to enjoy what you do, as you should. Best of Luck.

  • @svolypet

Top bands in Japan have help from people like Blue Devils and The Cavaliers.

  • @ClearBlackWater You guys kill me how you can't accepts the fact that these guys are better the most world class corps. Just give them credit. Look at BD, 2/3 almost consist of Japanese kids from bands like this! HINT at why BDare the 12 time champs. As far as them not being DCI champ material, drum corps have all days/pre tour. These guys dont and look at how good they are. Oh and dont forget that these are all teenagers.

  • @TheSyncopator What are you talking about, dude. Like seriously. You lost me. You must've misinterpreted what I said or something. How do you think they got good in the first place? BD and Cav are their instructors. Learn your facts.

  • @TheSyncopator Not really. I've marched BD for 4 years and we have had a total of 8 japanese kids in the horline, 1 in the drumline, and 7-8 in the guard my entire time there.

  • @TheSyncopator just so you know you might want to STFU because you don't know what your talking about... at all. well you may be right with the fact that they are all teenagers. BD is NOT all japanese kids, THEY ARE DEFINITELY NOT... seriously that was just an ignorant fact, your trying to seem like you know DCI when you probably have just been to shows with your HS marching band... .

  • BD is the way they are from good instruction, smart show design, and drawing talented kids who want DCI championships under their belts (mostly from USA)... and i'd also like to tell you that there definitely is no way these kids would place top 12 in DCI world class. These kids rehearsal an ENTIRE YEAR on just one show. im pretty sure its not a seasonal thing over there. also many people have already commented about other factors working in their favor (lack of grass, indoor, tempurature)

  • It kills me how you think that asians are superior to americans or something? that talent has NOTHING to do with the fact that they are from japan, all it has to do with is the fact that they actually put funding and support into their program to create those talented musicians... geez if you think the japaneese are so much better than us than why is our GNP SOOO much higher than Japans?

  • @vvbrandon A cultural bias of saving rather than spending? That our population exceeds theirs by almost 2 and a half? Or that Japan is about the size of the state of California land mass wise? I'll be the first to say I know nothing of the talent and training necessary to mold a great band, but a nations GNP is a poor indicator of their strength after all, almost a trillion dollars of our national debt is owed to Japan itself lol. Proud to be an American, but respectful of dedication and skill.

  • well @ svolypet, notice this is a highschool band, lol

  • Say this to the people who say Nishihara is in the same league as Phantom Regiment, Blue Devils, and Crown...

  • not a drum corp, marching band drum corps dont have woodwinds...or trombones

  • If this is a high school in Japan, than I would love to see a drum corps in Japan.

  • I don't think there are any corps in Japan, just corps based in Japan.

  • If you wanna see a drum core in Japan look up Aimachi Marching Band they are freakin amazing and could do well in DCI if they could be a part of it

  • thats not a drum corp u said it yourself its a marching band

  • If they were in the US they would own everyone... I thought for a minute is was watching DCI

  • But with woodwinds

  • oh wow, yea, i just reread what I wrote and it is pretty racist. but that's not what i meant. I mean like being Asian alone doesn't make you have a good work ethic, but like I feel like the culture of Asian nations stress hard work and discipline and so being raised in that environment would make someone likely to have a strong work ethic. I just feel like there isn't as much a stress on those values here in America.

  • I think you are correct. I'd give anything for my High School marching band to be like this.. I wish America wasn't so lazy

  • I've never been so ashamed to be an american.

  • I wonder why American marching bands aren't like this... It's probably the lack of work ethic that American's have.. or, it could be that a lot of them are fat and lazy. Blame it on Fast Food. We're all really stupid, and should be using the metric system because it makes SO much more sense

  • Well, it's also that Japanese culture stresses uniformity from an early age, which obviously helps when it comes to marching band. Also, I wouldn't say that it's the American LACK of work ethic, but rather the incredible quality of worth ethic Asians have.

  • @luked82 lololol

  • o.o i'm speechless but: how can all these japanese bands know where they're going without yardlines? seriously freshmen in my school can't even march WITH yardlines how can theirs be all amazing WITHOUT o.O

  • hey! i kinda happen to GO to your high school and yeah! she's right! our freshman can't even count off 4 steps from the front side line! ^.^

  • Yardlines aren't really all that important. My corps had many times where our practice field wasn't lined.

  • wow. way to make all other bands look like crap.

  • i can't believe i just witnessed this (beautiful)

  • How big is the size of the flag pole?

  • total highschool band rapage.

  • holy shit... i think i just pissed myself. and wtf, no yardlines... and i'v never seen drill so straight.

  • fucking godly

  • that's one of the most amazing things ive seen... EVER!!!! so hardcore awsome!!!!!!!!! beautiful, i teared up lol ^_^ sorry, imma band geek

  • Good im not the only one!!!!!

  • this is amazing!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • How simply awesome!! Clean, dynamic, and nice intensity. The thing that gets me,is there are woodwinds in the band and they produce such a sound.WOW.

  • just to kill my curiosity, does this band also represented japan for wmc 2009 this year? or just coincidently shared the same name? thanks in advance.

  • yeah they did represent Japan for wmc this year. They were in 3rd place this year though past 2 times, they were the champions. They wear different uniform when they play outside for some reasons. I remember in early 90's they start wearing the indoor uniforms that you see in this show.

  • I wish my band dedicated a lot to practicing.... This show is amazing ._. there might be little mistakes but just amazing

  • this band is amazing but there's only one thing........why does they're band instructor conduct and no one of the students like most high school marching bands i've seen

  • What is this show called??

  • Well the song is the Verdi Requiem, so that may be the show title lol

  • i'm in color guard, so i'm really sensitive to the mistakes they make. i saw NONE. absolutely amazing!!!

  • none? what about the opening sabre toss? it was under rotated and she had to side step about 4 steps to catch it. while they are amazing, no one is perfect.

  • will you just shut up? like god. it's their compliment, not yours.

  • wow, touchy much? dont be mad at me bc your eyes arent as well trained.

  • you must be blind cuz i saw many mistakes.....

  • The best show i've ever seen!!!

  • ya but they're asian

  • styreotype...........

  • holly sht at 8:04 .... crazy color guard .... in a good way.

  • Comment removed

  • This is even better then Drumcorps!!

  • Um...let's not get carried away.

  • LOL, you're correct. They are good... but not that good............. yet. The kids are 16-18 year olds. Many do take the next step and go to the states and perform in a corps. In fact the instructor is a '96 Cav Alum.

  • Holy crap they're only 16-18 years old???? Now I'm really ashamed!!!!

  • @herbs4mike

    SICK

  • No this isn't! This would be like a solid 5 ot 6 spot at finals, if that.

  • This is perfect. Wow man. Really good.

  • OMG TALK ABOUT DCI STATUS HAHAH

this marching indoors is really neat :)

    i like it lol

  • Bands of American Grand Nationals needs to invite this band as one of their guest performers. I know they would blow everyone away!!!

  • I think Nishihara Marching Band did an overall ranking of "Superior"

    Color Guard: Superior

    Marching Drums: Superior

    PIT: Excellent

    Overall Effect: Excellent

  • ok some of you people say that they wish they can march indoors.. i think they have a rite to know why we have our reasons to march outdoors (not saying indoors is bad) im just saying that there needs to be a whole new style of marching indoors (smaller area). btw.. nishira.. you guys are great. but hate to brag, ur snares and drums were superior, but so far in 2008, the worlds best drummer is said to be Christopher Brite who attends Kamehameha "Warrior" High School Marching Band and Color Guard

  • DAMN! Look at that one chick playing that run at 4:37! She's not even looking at the keyboard! GEEZ!

  • FIYA!!!!

  • wow.

  • My band (Avon INDIANA) played this music two years ago at BOA national championship and got 2nd place in USA, but these guys are unreal! Very impressed, the marching is superior to our American bands.

  • Hah kickass man...although the drill at 7:44-7:50 was totally stolen from the Cavaliers 2000 show.

  • Dude their teacher was a Cavalier, probably where he learned it from.
