  • Been trying to figure out the technique, but after reading descriptions & watching video shorts, I was still confused. This video enlightened me. Racewalking feels natural, even more natural than regular walking. The body moves as a series of linkages, not isolated parts, & the hips are the key to it all. Altho just a beginner with a long way to go, I really enjoy it so far. Besides the conditioning benefits, I can see myself applying the core concepts to other sports. Thanks for sharing.

  • Bad arm's use

  • wat

  • I'm a RACEWALKER myself...& its interesting/enjoyable seeing TOP RACEWALKERS & their "techniques" & styles.

after attending a DAVE McGovern clinic...my time has improved ;0)

  • @jayswafford

Thats so greatt!!! im hoping to PR tomorrow. my best mile is 8 50. i had to acually be in the same race as the fastest high school racewalker in the country a few times! kinda scary. she was reaaalllyy goood

  • Walks like he has to take a shit....

  • While this sport is respectable, just as any other is, this looks extremely unnatural.

  • It is far more natural than running. This is what happens when you attempt to walk really fast. I have been a runner, a swimmer, a speedskater. Racewalking is one of the most technically demanding and physically rewarding sports I have undertaken. It looks funny to some people, but it does wonder to your body. Happy to see this sport growing as evidenced by the number of people racewalking in Manhattan's Central Park.

  • @terrafirmaterrafirma

dude this is horrible for your body what are you even talking about. your advancing leg has to be completely straight which puts a lot of pressure on the knees and the unnaturally exaggerated pelvis movements are horrible for your hips.

  • @zazenzach Dont agree with you at all. The speed can be greatly reduced and the technique softened to make it less demanding on the body. The thing is that the more one walks, the more natural the technique feels.

  • Actually, racewalking is very easy on your body. About as close to a non-injury sport as you can get. Landing on the heel with straight knee like that does not bother most people's feet or knees at all, because the foot is moving as it lands so that the impact is only 1/3 that of running. It does seem as though your hips would not like all that extension but they generally don't seem to mind it. As you work on the technique, it usually becomes more and more smooth.

  • 2nd guy looks good. First fellow, refer jungleroy. 1st lady has some promise. They all need a coaching. Racewalking is fun, join a club and give it a go!

  • mshadle this is the toughest & most difficult specialty inside Olympics

    Track & field .

The whole world ( USA & Canada excluded ) thinks at it as a prestigious competition to work & join to, something much less funny & ridiculous than so called sports like baseball / softball , pathetic golf , bizarre synchro swim or retarded NFL .

If the US can't succeed in a tough sport involving difficult technique doesn't mean your ignorant side is right and the rest of the world is wrong :-) !

  • well the way we walk happens to be considered an art-form.. now lets talk about a pointless sport.. just gonna randomly say tennis for no reason. now that is a RIDICULOUS SPORT. whoever plays that needs to GET A LIFE!

  • i think the way these people walk is funnier than the fact this is a sport

  • mshadle how dare you laugh at such an amazing sport. this takes more effort than you can imagine. i would know, i am a pro race-walker. it took me 20 years to learn these techniques.. we have more skill than you do in your pinky. get a life!

  • I'm a professional walker too.

  • 20 years to learn how to walk? how long did it take you to run

  • baahahahahahahahahahahahahahaha

  • needs 2 lean back a little more

  • right toe swings out, right arm flops around. excess sideways motion
