Kurz recorded this aria a few times, and perhaps the earlier versions are better. She is justly esteemed for her performance, which showcases her creamy, luscious tone, legato, high piano, and, of course, her marvelous trill.
You have good ears! According to Alan Kelly's HMV discography, this is matrix 569 m, recorded in Vienna on September 27th 1911. The pressing is around 1920-1923 I'd think, no later, as it still shows the old single-sided catalogue number. During 1924, this record was reissued as a double-sided pressing under number DB 498.
Thank you! That's the kind of information I love. I have good ears, but I also know Kurz' discography. She is a great favourite of mine.
While meltzerboy is right that Kurz' pre-WW I disks are generally better, she made an electrical version of this Siren Call (1927?) which is amazing. But then, she was an amazing singer.
A milion thanks for posting,
This singer so known for her trills had a beautiful tone and was a top notch vocal actress.

The recording was made by Franz Hampe in Vienna on 27 September 1911.
This pressing is the original s/s issue. It was later reissued on d/s DB498.

And this is supposed to be the only trill a singer may or should make?

This is the kind of transcendental singing that brings tears to my eyes.

The pressing may be mid-20s, but the voice sounds immediately pre-WW I.
By the time she made her Polydors around 1923 her lower middle voice had changed. This is such a wonderful disk.
