@rayfur4 you might be right, but not according to this video`s headline, or whoever posted it..none the less they did meet at the 1989 soul train awards..
@miksimpatikwhitney do you have whole performance with Whitney's performance? I was reading that it was on The SoulTrain Awards where Whitney came out to perform and the booed her because what she was singing wasn't soul. I don't remember her ever getting booed, but I just looked up it and it said was on 1989 Soul Train Awards
@bzandaz lol i always knew it sounded familiar but couldn't figure out who sung it. I just know i knew the words. Prolly from my mom playing it when i was lil. So funny i think of Martin every time i hear this
I love me some whitney. Her life is teachable moment in so many ways. Watching this I think how powerful addiction and drugs are. Whitney had so many family members and friends who walked with god and prayed so much for this woman - she can rest now . god bless her. Hold up the light !!!
Wow just 23 years later her Voice was no Good!!..see how the Devil can Ruin you!..this is true Testament how God can give you a Gift!..satan just Robbed her!
@Prancer1231 lol...It did sound like she said Crack.... that is terrible. I hope that was just a taping issue... it did sound like it skipped in the beginning a few times, I hope thats what happened...
@Prancer1231 The lyrics were "crack" as written. This song was very instrumental in my own recovery. Yes, this was an anti-crack song due to the crack epidemic that was rampant at the time, In fact the entire album HEAVEN was about redemption. Whitney - I know what you were going through and I will always love you
my husband and I saw Bebe, Cece, and Whitney sing this at the Big Splash summer concert in Ocean Grove, NJ in the late 1980s. That night the music was so uplifting and magical. But let me tell you, when Whitney walked out on the stage, it was a jolting surprise. We were electrified out of our seats. I've always thought it was such a great gesture of Whitney's to show up at that event. It blessed so many people. I pray God's strength to her family.
@pounceuma1 Sister I feel you with that comment. Thank God I recorded her performance at some Christmas show I caught on BET last year. As far as I was concerned, SHE WAS BACK singing her duet with another woman. Now I have to find it. I FELT her and the spirit of God in her when she sang. I am so blessed and rooted for her singing on stage. She is now with God but she has bought his spirit to millions of people and will continue to bring HEAVEN to others in her voice and image
I remember in an interbiew CeCe said she was in awe of Whitney's vocal abilities. That's a real friend because CeCe can definitely hold her own but she honored the gift in her sister and friend..
This was one of my favorite songs from Bebe and Cece - saw them live several times and backed them up on bass incollege once. They had incredible voices and I always said that Cece could hang with Whitney any day, but they didn't get the props or exposure becuase they stuck to gospel only. Whitney's roots were deep in gospel and Christianity, but it's sad to see what fame and bad choices can do to a life and career. She will be missed!
TRUE WHITNEY CANT OUT SING THEM NOW BUT SHE SHO DID OUT SING THEM BACK THEN & WE GOT IT ON YOU TUBE& SHE DID IT WITHOUT EVEN TRYIN TOO HARD LUV ME SOME HER
@Prancer1231 Wrong. The lyrics were "crack" as written. This song was very instrumental in my own recovery and I must have sang it over hundreds of times. Yes, this was an anti-crack song due to the crack epidemic that was rampant at the time, which was released one month after the premiere of the movie NEW JACK CITY. I remembered the song because I was struggling with addiction at that time and this song helped me, in fact the entire album HEAVEN moved me from that period amen
@Eagle9255 But they're the same age so Whit should still be in her prime. There is no good excuse for CeCe to be able to run circles around her today. Look at how Patti LaBelle & Aretha Franklin still sound & they're old enough to be her mother!
@musiqgem My friend, Whitney's voice is now physically damaged. it is not just a matter of her not being able to belt and hold a high note. You are correct about Patti & Aretha, but they do not have damage chords.
Amazing. Doesn't it make you wonder if whitney hadn't drank.smoked. done any drugs. and generally looked after her voice what it would sound like now?
Amazing and wonderful. I played the Heaven cassette tape by BeBe & CeCe that this was taken from until I had to buy a new one! Such incredible talent from all of them!!! God bless you Whitney!!
amazing vocals. and get over the whitney part with crack. i pray and hope you never struggle with addiction. ironic or not...she is taking responsibility and doing what is right. what have YOU done for the cause? stop throwing stones and HOLD UP THE LIGHT.
Am i the only one that found it quite ironic that it just happened to be Whitney who sang the line "boys and girls, cant you see the type of friend CRACK can be" lol""
Whitney's wearing a very similar dress to Jody Watley's in Shalamar's video, "A Night To Remember". And this is 7 years after that video. Click like if you notice. LOL. Great performance!!
@rellenoz HA!!! I always remembered that dress when this first came on TV. She also had it in the "My Name Is Not Susan" video. (not wearing it, but looking at it) One day I was looking at "A Night To Remember" video and was like, "Whitney stole Jody's dress!!" LOL!! Probably a dress Jody borrowed from Bob Mackie for the video.7 years later, Whitney asks for a dress, and he goes into his storage. "Ah, here's something. Same size, Same height. I'll touch it up, she'll never know." LOL!!!
Did you notice her lyrics at 1:45-1:47? "Boys and Girls can't you see - the kind of friend CRACK can be?" Well - I guess she found out what kind of friend it could be - and took FULL advantage of it! LMAO!!
since Pres. Obama is so outraged over "faux" homophobia in [the] Black community & Black churches, why does he so ardently seek and assume their electoral support on every opportunity ? Since it outrages him so, perhaps in order to allow him to maintain his character & integrity, the "Black Community" should offer it's objectionable, anti-war support to a more reasonable and balanced candidate come 2012- just a very short time from now ! Is there any other group he snubs more than Blacks ??
LOL....that BeBe is sucha a d@mn woman...lol....how he kept that gayness undercover is beyond me!! LOL...woo...Hold Up Your legs is what he really means! LOL
@Bahia82 LOL...I wasn't exactly subtle. Ray Charles can see that story...but asking the wife he beat for years is the only real way to know the inside scoop. Google/Facebook Penny Winans for the facts is all i can tell ya
Whitney is vocally incomparable! I will admit that the soul of Cece and Bebe is amazing, but nothing beats Whitney's vocals. Amazing woman she was, amazing...
@mizzlady400 Relax I didn't mean showboating in a bad way!!!...and I know most singers use their bodies to get notes out ..I'm a singer also..thank u!
Thank you for the video. I'll be using it in my upcoming Examiner article entitled: Sunday Best vs. Casual Dress. Ms. "V" examiner.com/christian-living-in-jacksonville/victoria-poller
@akamizzT LOL!!! That episode was on about an hour ago on MTV2. Funny episode. Man..when Whitney had a voice. I still have hope and I pray that she gets it back and I hope that she is seriously off the drugs. I am praying for her.
I remember seeing this on television as a kid and thinking Whitney's vocals were just awesome and she had this vibe about her! I remember watching this and I thought to myself that voice is awesome!!! Her notes are clean & there is a brilliance to her voice. Oh yeah "Krisu," that thing they are holding (CeCe) in their hands is nothing. A lot of GOSPEL artist clintch their fist when they sing. Remember what's going on in their deeper subconsious dear, 4them there's always a struggle of some kind.
It is ironic to see two people who visited colleges in my city, Norfolk, VA, in the audience at the same time: Jasmine Guy and Tim Reid. I wonder if all three of them can sing this song live today.
the first time i watched this I was like what the hell is this woman (cece) doing, she looks so agressive. but now I can hear she was singing her ass off because of whitney. cause she knows whitney ain't gonna hold back on her. great moment! those were the days...
I remember this great song..this is the album which I discovered Bebe and Cece. This song is actually on BeBe and CeCe's album featuring Whitney..great collabo.
@MrJudube go back and watch the version of Whitney and cece doing this song on the Arsenion hall. Its not competition but Ce CE has a Powerful voice but its not with Whitneys im sorry. and Im not just saying that cause Whitney is more recognized than her..but whitney has or had a 5 octave operatic controlled voice..thats bad mofo combo!!!!
@MrJudube CeCe is trying to hard anyway..its clear shes showboating (moving all across the stage)..Whitney is just standing in one spot and still singing over her
i can feel the perfection in Whitney's tone and technique....she sounds like she is singin perfectly from her diphragm...her tone is so clear and effortless
I love the part 0.59 - 1.16 - Whitney amazig!

I don't care that Whitney's range climbed little higher. Cece's tone had the strenght and beauty that rivaled large part of Whitney's voice.

They all did very well. Everyone's giving props to Whitney, but Cece has an incredible voice as well.

You must be smoking crack if you think Cece could sing as high Whitney even now. Whitney still a higher soprano, her voice is just mad raspy now.
