  • This was filmed at Six Flags over Georgia in conjunction with Ted Turner's then fledgling station WTCG, which became Channel 17 and then TBS Superstation.

  • Six Flags over Texas,, Notice the white fountain?? Still there. Its in the Southern part by France

  • I remember seeing this for the first (and only) time on Cartoon Network one January morning before school back in 1997! Thanks for the pleasant walk down memory lane.

  • Everything is super groovey!

  • I'm sure with the Confederate Flag being prominent in this video, the Splits will be labeled racist. The PC crowd has already attacked the Scooby-Doo episode, Mystery Mask Mix-Up because they claim that Shaggy and Scooby disguising themselves as Orientals is racist and pokes fun at Asians.

  • Did you know the guys had two sets of costumes? They were extremely cumbersome to wear, so they had a specially made lighter version for the location shoots. Intially, these ones had internal cooling devices built into the costumes, but these were soon discarded because they were very fragile and leaked noxious chemical fumes if they were cracked.

  • I've wanted to say it for the last 40 years and I'm gonna say it now...I hope someone gave that kid at the end something to REALLY cry about!

  • Love the baggies on that kid at 02:15!

  • i am not 100 percent about the people in the costumes however i do remember reading somewhere that Don Messick cut his head with the snorky costume and was bleeding quite bad whilst they were filming a show. he carried on until they got the take. after which he had his head seen too.

  • Does anybody know the identity of the actual actors who played the Splits? I heard somewhere the guys playing Bingo, Fleegle and Drooper were actually brothers.

  • Paul Winchell - Fleegle

    Daws Butler - Bingo

    Allan Melvin - Drooper

    Don Messick - Snorky

  • Weren't those guys just the voice actors? I mean, who physically played the Splits in costumes?

  • @kiwimike1

Allan Melvin was "Sam the Butcher" on Brady Bunch and also did the voice for Magilla Gorilla.

  • @mistofoles I think these were Six flags over Georgia park employees, just like at Disneyland - mickey mouse donald duck etc. or Magic Mountain - trolls or warner bro. characters. The actors were Different extras. They just had to fit into the suit and be the appropriate height and weight. I wonder what they were paid, and how they had to rehease their movements. They probably couldn't see or hear very well in those costumes.

  • I believe this footage was shot at the original Six Flags Over Texas in Arlinton, TX. I wish they still emphasized the actual 6 flags over Texas areas in the park such as the Confederate Review above. Not to PC these days. They have even taken down the "Old South" sign.

  • Correct. Amusement park shots for the 2cnd series were filmed at Coney Isand, Cincinnatti, and the 1972 spin-off, "The Banana Splits In Hocus-pocus park" was filmed at King's Island, Ohio, although contrary to popular belief, this location was NOT used for the opening credits of season 1.

  • Actually, that child sounds like he or she is crying.

  • Almost to the end of the song, why's Fleegle's, Bingo's and Drooper's heads on backwards.

  • I think it was done as a joke. apparently when they were messing about is when they were there funniest, with only a few moments captured on film
