I saw Lone Justice in Manchester in 1986 (maybe 87) - oh my god they were amazing! I also saw McKee solo a few times including a memorable gig in a tiny pub in Nottingham in the late 1980's
My favourite "non punk" song of all time - video crap but live voice brilliant. Seen her solo in San Diego a few years ago but she only done one LJ song... Dixie Storms .. not a disappointment as it is a LJ classic .... enjoy ... or not, Elle!
OUT OF THIS WORLD PERFORMANCE! Definite Shades of Cyndi lauper when she hits those sweet high notes (eg 3.15) - (and with the hair too!). At 3.35 onwards it could actually BE Cyndi Lauper! Pretty amazing stuff. An outstanding talent that never found it's true destiny or got its just deserts. Thats a tragedy. Phhh - Bloody music business ... !
Let me tell you a story. I first saw a Lone Justice video "Ways to Be Wicked" on Sky Channel I think (there was no MTV in Europe then, but there were other channels that showed music videos.) I thought "wow, that wasn't so bad". But I couldn't get that song and that woman's voice out of my head. So I went to my local record shop, asking if they had any Lone Justice. No. Nothing available in Europe at all. So guess what I did? I wrote to their record company Geffen and asked WTF? I got a Lone Jus
I had a handle on my sorrow/My composure was in order if not sufficiently intact/ But every reminiscent echo brings a blow to chill my senses and my heart quakes then tenses till these moments pass - "Wheels"....with words & music by Maria McKee, Lone Justice had some of the most cerebral lyrics in their song writing, just listen to "Beacon" "Belfry" and "The Gift" also on the Shelter album.
No way! I had this album "Shelter" on cassette as well. Such a raw passionately gifted singer. This song kinda reminded me of Janis Joplin's style just a tiny bit. (not comparing BTW)
Having seen Lone Justice live several times in the mid 80's those were definitely experiences I will never forget. Maria's voice would just echo in my head for days. And it was a definite spiritual thing.
I think I actually love it more now! I had this cassette, and this song was the highlight - as one poster here mentioned, it is like a religious experience...When I found this on YouTuvbe the other day, it was the first time in several years that I heard it - I had tears in my eyes...Powerful song....
Maria McKee... she plays piano, writes music, sings beautifully, and looks great too! Yeah, life's not fair sometimes...
This is a great song. My favourite "lone justice" song; and, they had a lot of great songs (for only putting out two albums/CDs). I wish I had seen them when they were still together and touring back in the 80's.
Everyone with an ear and a brain knows that Maria is one of the absolute greatest singers - and, by the way, I'm 61 and heard a few!!!

She has the heart of a '60's child, a Scottish lass, a cowgirl all rolled into one.

She has an amazing amount of passion and soul. Too bad she isn't heard as much as Jessica Simpson. It's a sad state of affairs.

One of her best songs. Right up there with Dixie Storms and Show Me Heaven.
That little vocal thing she does at about 5:45 just sends shivers up my spine.

Someday, the genius and beauty of those two songs will be recognized by people other than die hard fans. No Idea Where Hebden Bridge is...
