Hi guys, to me it sounds like a Chinese guzheng 古筝 (which is sorta like a harp, an example: youtu.be/ZRr9nQWJDxc) and towards the end it is an erhu 二胡 (also Chinese, sorta like a violin I guess, an example youtu.be/amCk9hz6EK0). My guess.
I think its a dulcimer, something like a hammer dulcimer, dulcijo, or dulcitar. It reminds me of an erhu.. I wish I had all of these instruments. This is by far my favorite song of all 4 seasons/albums. If you like this song you should listen to the album "Ys" by Joanna Newsom.
Hey Christian Brothers and sisters, what instruments is he using in this song? i was thinking a clarinet maybe and don't know the stringed one, would really find a response helpful. thank you! In Christ Brother Travis :)
@soldierofchrist4ever I think the "Christian brothers and sisters" is a bit off-putting. No, it's not a clarinet. It's either some sort of Indian instrument or perhaps a basoon. Same goes for the strings; probably something Eastern.
I was walking to school in such a rush, even though I knew I would be an hour early. Then this song came on and I started to slow down...started to look around..started to take my time. Sometimes we're so caught up in getting there faster and faster we forget about how we get there, and why we're going.
Great song, very deep--trying to tackle such an epic time in a hero's life. Thanks for uploading it. Is there a reason that you didn't capitalize the "G" in God, though? Just wondering.
My youngest son died in a tragic accident on June 25, 2009. He was 14 years old. He played guitar, he sang, he composed, and he just loved music. He and I (his father) had a very ecleptic taste for wide varieties of music. He would like this song and compostion by Jon Foreman. Someone below said this, "Sometimes there are no words to explain things, only music." This is a very very true statement. Thank you for sharing this with me via youtube.
I remember growing up and Jon Foreman's music was always around and I truly enjoyed hearing his voice in times of annoyance or strife. His lyrics always were a big help.
thank you for uploading this

at first glance, this is faintly reminiscent of a Buddhist chant, except it is about Christ. which makes this song even more kick butt. amazing!

@whenturtlesfly, that's what I was thinking actually the beginning sounds like some new age music genre song, something you'd hear at a spa.

@soldierofchrist4ever I'm assuming it's like a bass clarinet or something... I'm an avid player of it. Or yeah, it could also be a bassoon.
By the way, this song made me bawl. Just saying.
