Ultimecia, the only final fantasy villain more successful than Kefka. Sure, she loses, but she keeps living on in a chain, like Garland tried and failed to do.
Based on her final words, I think Ultimecia wanted to achieve time compression because she had lost something precious. She wanted to experience all times simultaneously so that she'd never have to lose anything again. Squall, on the other hand, accepted the fact that loss is part of being alive, so he didn't have to screw around with time.
It was so epic the first time. You have been fighting hard for an hour straight against all of Ultimecia's forms.. and as you slay Griever and Ultimecia you are greeted by darkness where distorted chanting and chain rattling introduce you too the most bizarre Final Boss form you have ever seen.

Most of us were kids when we played this game. It had A LOT of adult aspects in terms of nostalgia and romance in the story, and children aren't exactly fond of these kind of things.

@nisbahmumtaz909 So I take it that I'm not the only one who shed a tear when Squall saw his younger self near the end? (In reference to your "nostalgia" remark). I mean, if I saw MY younger self I'd feel so odd seeing how pure and innocent I used to be, and how that part of me had not yet experienced all the harshness and adversity that I have now. :' (
I remember this epic fight. Came down to Rinoa vs. her with no healing left. I thought I was screwed but one final shot and I won with about 12 hp left. Intense game and still my favorite out of the series followed closely by IX.
@BosinAioko i dont understand how FF VIII got such a large amount of people loving it... it was weaker in terms of story, characters, and mechanics when compared to many other FF games...
my personal pick of FF games would have FF VI as top, followed by VII
I agree, the storyline was really poor, with a patetic plot twist in the middle of the game. I think that we love FF VIII for it's heavy attempt to be most cinematic as possible. It was outstanding at the time and also today there isn't many JRPG that have the courage to be so ahead on times.
Speaking the truth, FF VIII is simply and evolution of what FF VI and VII were: heavy cinematic, storytelling, futuristic JRPGs.
@Elc22 I think what you need to understand is that not everyone is looking for great story or characters. If they wanted that, you can just watch a movie. FF VIII offers an immersive gameplay (i.e. fighting combos, and timing attacks in limit breaks), fun mini-games, innovative graphics, and great selection of music. Ultimately, games offer a "get away" from real life. And FF VIII did that for a lot of people, including me. It's all a matter of what you relate to, I think.
@Gr8gabe really? i dunno, it felt like the battle system was somewhat poorly put together personally, along with the mini-games, the ways that it was different from the old games were either not significant enough to matter (quick time button junk) or just plain bad (magic drawing/leveling system). it just felt like the team that put together VIII were just not nearly as talented as the ones that came before. btw, I beat the game at level 21, though level means almost nothing in the game.
@Elc22 Yeah, fair enough. It's different, but at the same time I don't care for the same old thing. Besides, it was Tetsuya Nomura's first big game. He did a lot for FFVII, Parasite Eve series, Kingdom Hearts series, Dissidia, and all that jazz. It just goes to show that all artists were amatuers once. : )
I eventually made my way back to her again (12 hours of trial and error fights later) Somehow I got lucky and after about 100 rough divides and her weird monolouge later, I defeated her. The ending kind of creeped me out though. I tried to defeat her again. But ever since then I never could not even with a gameshark (yeah I know pretty sad).
I apologize for the long story. Just thought I needed to vent now that I'm hearing that this game was easier to beat than I had presumed.
I eventually defeated it. And then there was her final form in which upon hearing this tune here. My frustration was peaking but I really wanted to beat this thing. And all I had left fighting was Squall and Rinoa and was like screw everyone else. Rinoa healed everytime she pull that move that drops us to 1 hp and Squall spamming rough divide. I thought a couple of 9999s was gonna do her in but boy was I wrong! She killed me the first time cuz I couldn't Phoenix Rinoa fast enough....
Her first first form kicked my arse. Then I turned around and ended up defeating it, then she went to her second form (at least I think it was) and obliterated me again. -_-. After a couple of tries trying to figure out her powers through trial and error, I ended up defeating that form. Then I had to fight that lion thing (I think she mentioned it was her GF but w/e) It whooped my butt and this one did so the most out of her first 2 forms......
When I played this game, I practically played this like I would play any other RPG game. Junctioning sounded greek to me and so was capturing monsters and what not. (never really understood the card game either). So I ignored it. I died fighting a couple of bosses considering I was underleveled. I didn't get all the GFs but the ones I did have I spammed them on everyone which practically got me through up to the final boss.....
Turning monsters into cards.. Turning the cards into free spells.. Turning the free spells into high level spells.. Junctioning the high level spells to all your stats..
Intentionally get your health to yellow (which with the junctioned stats is still more than 4x as much as you're supposed to have).. Oneshotting almost every boss in the game at lvl 10..
@project0omega Yeah, all you need to do is gather some Blind spells, summon Diablos as soon as you can, cast Blind on him, then draw all his spells, junction Demi them to your Attack and run from every fight possible (all random battles, would help if you hava the ability to eliminate them) from that point on, never fighting anything but bosses and you'll have enough Str to 1shot most of them.
You could also just turn monsters into cards if you want an easy profit instead of running from them.
@project0omega An example of this would be that I was around lvl 8 when I fought Edea.. She had aprox 2k health and I was hitting for an average of 4-5k.
Fujin and Rajin later on had 1.2 and 1.6 respectively, and Ultimecia would change phase for every hit she took.
Even Ultima Weapon levels with you, so its possible to beat even the "hardest" boss in the game with 1 round of Limit Breaks using this method.
@project0omega This is because that the stats of your enemies are based on your Lvl while the stats of your characters are based on the Spells you have junctioned.. So the lower your level and the stronger your junctioned spells, the easier the game is.. In other words, this game PUNISHES you for leveling!
This music is so calm in the begining and then all of the sudden it gets faster and you really get into the fight. I remember hitting multiple Lion Hearts and Armaggedon Fists and Ultimecia would just stay there talking like it was nothing:)
I remember spacing out while playing this game. Next thing I knew I was in space trying to catch a bimbo. Then I woke up and said : "wtf is this shit?!"
FF8 definately creeped me out a little, It was so unlike anything I've ever played before, and had so many twists. To be honest, it was so strange that I found it confusing and the storyline was so hard to understand :/
But it is epic. It's a shame that it's hard for us to understand other worlds because we're so trapped on our own one.
...Amazing game interesting plot twists and some of the best character development for a main character in the entire FF series.....wait umm in my opinion that is...yea that'll keep the thumbs off me...
Final Fantasy games are definately amazing, The storylines, the character interaction, and the altogether sense of belonging when you play them. My first Final Fantasy game I ever played was X, and to be honest when i got to the ending I cried. Even though most other FF's don't get you into them as much as X did, they're still great games. Try Final Fantasy: Tactics Advance, for the Gameboy Advance, or even FF: Crystal Chronicles for the Gamecube. They're different from most other FF's =]
This is my favorite final fantasy music, but its part of my least favourite final fantasy (by final fantasy i mean until ff 10). My second favourite is "battle on the big bridge" from final fantasy 5
@elete919 well, all final fantasy games have good music, but to me it seems that VIII had the most enjoyable songs out of any. At least for me anyway. 7 had a really good soundtrack but I always thought the crisis core and advent children remixes were better. 9 and 10 were also in my favorites.
@thisbarb Kefka was meant to be a comedy relief... it wasn't until America's translation that he became anything resembling intelligent. In the original, he's a psycho with bad intentions and very good luck. Ultemecia required the player to look at the clues dropped throughout the game to understand whom she was. She was a tragic, thought provoking villain as opposed to Kefka's humor. Those two aren't really comparable.
i have played Final Fantasy 8, 9, 19 and 12. I liked the 8 the most becouse the story line. I also liked the GF movies and the system the way you make your characters stronger. I readed that Final Fanrtasy 7 is the best one but i havenever played it. Can anyone tell me why is Final Fantasy 7 the best?
It changed the pace of the series: featured a different graphics engine, new story, new world, varied cast of characters, a wide range of mini-games, refined battle system, deeply memorable events and was the first entry onto a new console.
My personal favorite Final Fantasy titles are both Final Fantasy V and VIII. Just to reassure you that the reason comes from other fans and what I gather from the title.
It changed the pace of the series as it was the first Final Fantasy to be featured in 3D, featured a varied cast of characters, all new settings and locations, a refined battle system (Materia), A story unlike any of its predecessors, the first FF to be released onto a different console and a set of very memorable events.
DISC 3 was a curse. i had two copies and they both were messed up at the same spot. A friend of mind let me hold his with a problem at the ragnorok space part. Then my other friend lets me borrow his and he said all the disc work but the third one. I was like WTF cant play.through the whole damn game, but it was like my tenth time ending it anyway but still
Everyone is hating on FFVIII's plot, you do take notice that the GF's make them forget their memories, there's alot your missing, so PLAY THE GAME AGAIN AND ACTUALLY LISTEN, dumbfuck.
This comment has received too many negative votesshow
Final Fantasy VIII had way too many loopy plot situations, to the point where some of them were just ridiculous. For example, having Irving be the person to snipe Edia even though he is the only one who remembered being raised by her AND he never killed anyone before. And he just happens to deliberately withhold this information until near the end of DISC 3?! That is just one of the issues.
This comment has received too many negative votesshow
i agree completely with you all so ridiculous the whole thing where they all coincidentally were raised by her at like an orphanage and no one remembers? its just bad plot writing.
@Yurikan What are you talking about? Im to that part right now and Im not even halfway through disk 2.... And he has his reasons, though why he with held the information till THAT moment, I dunno. Drama maybe? >.> And yes, some of them were rediculous, but its to be expected when dealing with time travel and its sort of a destiny thing anyway, you know, grew up togeather, destined heroes, children of fate, etc, etc.
@Yurikan all square games are victim to bad writing not to mention i can think of more ludicrous events happening in other games(in ff4 giant neon space whale) .
also if you listen to NORG Martine set up that whole situation so that Balamb would get the blame Irvine was meant to fail from the beginning .... not to mention He wouldve hit Edea dead on but she blocked the bullet so he isnt to blame. and the memory thing is explained a loose convenient and random explantion but still its enough.
Most of them are tied up, though the game does leave a few things unanswered-- how Cid and Edea managed to get the ship in the first place, how Galbadia Garden manages to simply vanish, how Ward manages to get away with using a nonstandard weapon in the military, how Kiros manages to avoid being so heavily wounded, how Caraway manages to NOT get killed(he's investigated, demoted, and even removed from office, yet still keeps his life), and how Seifer seems to have a psychic bond to Squall.
The reason for that is when her HP is 0, she will began to start talking, each time you hit her, it will cycle through each phrase one at a time, until she says "And...". After that, any hit will kill her. There was a lot of speculation of what she was going to say after that, such as revealing who she truly was, but it never happened.
This is the most epic and enigmatic battle of all RPG history, JUST FOR WHAT YOU HAVE EXPLAINED!! When I finished the fight (about 2 hours) I was like "now I can die without regrets".... XD
Come to think of it, I never tried using Cure on her. However, if you just sit there and do nothing after she says "And...", she will repeatedly cast Apocalypse until you deliver the final blow.
All FF's are great. My honest opinion though is that FF9 is the best in the series. Its severly underated, but even many of the creators of the FF series have admitted they prefer that particular one. Anyways ff8, yeah nice (beats ff7 hands down).
ff8 was awesome and so was ff9 although i liked 8 the most... i think overall 8 was better fighting and had much more interesting characters. but yes 8 and 9 were the greatest ffs ever.
SEED was the organization established by Cid which was meant to deafeat sourceresses of which one was Edea Cid's wife. Most of the main playable characters like Squall, Yuffie, Zell, Quistus were members.
You could just say they were all good you cant even compare them >_> Final fantasy 7 had sephiroth and had like one of the first battle themes with his name in it Sephiroth is still talked about, In 8 it had a whole new battle system and the gfs were very pro in the game along with the laguna story, and X had the epicness of the best graphics for a Final fantasy and had the epic twist at the end, the aeons were also pro so was the music =D All Around they were all good
These are all pretty stupid reasons to like a game and excuse the fact that all in all a lot of the final fantasy games honestly aren't that good.
Seven and Six were probably the best the series has ever produced, but even those in many ways were lackluster. There are countless things that you're practically forced to think "if only they had done this better, or this differently".
Eight was a mistake save for its wonderful music, and Ten was just downright gaudy.
I liked VIII more than VII, though I'll admit I understand why everyone likes VII so much. Anyhow, We all like games for different reasons, and what one person thinks is stupid, others will like - it's just like music, or anything for that matter...and I don't have to be a game designer to know that....
That is true, yes, but there is a difference between something being objectively good and being subjectively good. Liking something does not automatically mean its good - hence, people enjoy B movies.
The reason that VII is considered better is because it actually unites itself around a specific point, the game has meaning - a point - it's about accepting the cards you've been dealt, learning to accept conditions outside of your control (cloud and sephiroth attempt to fight this, and...cont.)
cont. from below... and experience denial and rage respectively. Sephiroth goes insane and Cloud denies reality and attempts to create his own past.
Shortly before Hironobu Sakaguchi made FF7 his mother died, and this heavily effected the design of the game and everybody was supportive of his vision. The game actually had a vision - not just a string of "cool" or "interesting" yet ultimately hollow and superficial scenarios that are loosely tied to eachother.
I thought ff8 wasn't too bad but I realllly didn't like Selphie, Irvine, or (especially) FUJIN. Unlike the rest of the world I found Zell a little funny.
I liked the GF system, and I liked the card game. The Laguna stuff was pretty neat, but the way Cid came onto Squall all game was just really weird.
@Erghest - I agree with you about that, especially about Hironobu. It gives more meaning because he was pouring his sorrow and pain into something creative. I have most of the Final Fantasy games, Final Fantasy VII is my favourite due to it being my first RPG and Final Fantasy. Final Fantasy VIII I like, and have tried to complete - got to disk 3, but alas Squall's attitude just put me off, plus I didn't find Rinoa very like-able.
@Kaiserzel - I never understood that, as one minute he doesn't seem to care much about Rinoa and in the blink of an eye he's beginning for her to wake out of a coma. I'll probably play it again in the future
Yeah mate, it's very close, I enjoyed FF 8 more than any other FF game, but 7 is awfully close in my books to being as good as 8 :), too bad all the final fantasy's after 8 sucked ass imo....though 12 was okay, aside from it's story which could have been a bit better.
@vampirejack22 I find fun challenge value in 9 (the get all items/excalibur 2 challenge) and 10 had an annoying story but I found Seymour to be an awesome villain. I probably spent nearly as much time on Blitzball as the actual game since it was such a fun minigame in its own right. 12 was decent for me but there wasn't enough worthwhile sidequests, and espers weren't even worth summoning.
@serenadesilhout but they are totally different stories if any game picks up ff7 from where it stopped it would be advent children and then dirge of cerburus
@ASteveVaiFan Games are quite objectively ratable unlike music. It's a certainty that GTAIV is better than GTA1. VIII's gameplay was poor, triple triad was fantastic but there was more variety with VII and it's fabulous gold saucer area. VII's setting was better, cyberpunk and varied human microcosms. VIII was generic futuristic with a few nice locations but not very relatable. The plot in VIII was nonsensical and half-assed, VII was extremely well done and memorable.
@valleyshrew I understand all your points and they all do indeed make sense. At the same time, although the junction system was complex it was probably the most fun equip/powerup style a FF has offered once understood. And the main problem with FF8's plot (besides the orphanage gang crap) is the fact that Square knows something and wouldn't reveal it. The R=U theory is rejected, but things like Squall actually dying at the end of disc1 and similar ideas could pull the plot together.
@ASteveVaiFan I belive both stories were AWESOME, VII beats VIII in story but not for a Big difference. And obviously VIII beats VII in gameplay, god, VIII had such an AWESOME gameplay.
If FFVIII had the materia system that FFVII had it would of possibly topped FFVII. To this day my friend who thinks FFVII is the best, my brother with FFX and myself with FFVII still have the debate on what all three of these games had that made them special to us and what we would add from each game to make the ultimate game. BTW Dissidia and Dissidia 012 made us think we could figure it out in an all out brawl... still trading wins back and forth to this day.
The soundtrack, The amazing character development ( No sqaull did not just START being a nice guy randomly... does anyone pay attention?) and the amazing epic battles. even random battles were EPIC. Great game, its perfect in every aspect.
glad this it's this high on the list it deserves it...lots of things going on so smoothly in this song and at a nice pace..OWA has the epicness of a God but this is just better to listen to...there's just so much excitement fighting in this battle
and the junction system is finicky, but you become a friggin monster if you level up your gf's and get the stat +1 abilities(like str +1 or spd+1 per level) and stuff like that. personally, i didnt mind the junctioning system. and the draw system was tidious, but nothing that could make the game seem less than perfect
amazing song. to everybody that said they love ff8 and actually played it, I LOVE YOU!!! im tired of everybody hopping on the fucking ff7 bandwagon and saying its the best rpg ever. WRONG ff8 is THE KING of rpgs. and i would jizz in my pants if they remade ff8 for ps3
OMG yes i totally agree with you. I mean I like FF7 but cmon. It is so overrated now. FF8 is the best FF i reckon. It has the best music in all of FF and relatable characters.
The only thing I hated about it was the Draw system. But other then that, it was a great game.
This is one of my favorite themes in FFVIII. I love how it starts off all slow and building up, then you get hit with the classic FF battle theme at 1:41 to get the music really started. Awesome job by Nobuo Uematsu on this one!
you know, I realy hated the junction system and junk system in this game, but of all FF the batles was one of the bests the battle theme always make this game up, at least for me
When I first played it I hated the Junction system too, the junk system wasn't as bad and cards really help with it. Once you get the Junction system you can destroy the game.
I finished FFVIII three times and collected all the cards, and finally managed to beat that Omega Weapon. I must say, FFVIII is one of the best in the series. The battle music are just so good, especially "Force Your Way". =D
The last time I beat it I got all the cards as well and by then triple triad became very addicting and I loved it when I screwed the opponent with my last move. mind you it took a lot of rule manipulation to get the game the way I wanted it.
Ahhhh, beautiful, so melodaic. Smooth transitions, relaxing rhythm, and even as the pace speeds up, it never loses a thing. Truely one of my all time favorite themes.
This is my favorite battle theme in any rpg, and my favorite gaming music. My number one :D Anyway, glad to see it so high leveled in this list. It fuckin deserves it :D
This kinda sounds like one of the other songs in FF7 in the opening.. like the mansion or something.

Final Fantasy VIII had probably the best music out of any final fantasy game.
A few of the characters annoyed me though.
also, the story is only good if you actually pay attention and see that the whole thing is a time paradox and a continuous loop.

@elete919 well, all final fantasy games have good music, but to me it seems that VIII had the most enjoyable songs out of any. At least for me anyway. 7 had a really good soundtrack but I always thought the crisis core and advent children remixes were better. 9 and 10 were also in my favorites.

Ultimecia was a garbage boss. We need more cackling, insane villains who poison entire castles and less random strangers.
thisbarb 1 year ago
@thisbarb Kefka was meant to be a comedy relief... it wasn't until America's translation that he became anything resembling intelligent. In the original, he's a psycho with bad intentions and very good luck. Ultemecia required the player to look at the clues dropped throughout the game to understand whom she was. She was a tragic, thought provoking villain as opposed to Kefka's humor. Those two aren't really comparable.

I readed that Final Fanrtasy 7 is the best one but i havenever played it. Can anyone tell me why is Final Fantasy 7 the best?
kojicesmikurac 1 year ago 2
It changed the pace of the series: featured a different graphics engine, new story, new world, varied cast of characters, a wide range of mini-games, refined battle system, deeply memorable events and was the first entry onto a new console.

I really liked 8 [enc-non my best friend :D]
I liked not needing to grind on the world map to level up. Drawing saves you more time over all.
The only part that was cheesy for me was when they all found out they were orphans from the same orphanage. though it was really more of a LOL moment.
and how it got to be SquallxRinoa was always kind of fuzzy for me. could be something lost in translation.
but i lost disc three. so sad :( and i've looked everywhere a disc could possibly be!
Aggibale 1 year ago 3
My personal favorite Final Fantasy titles are both Final Fantasy V and VIII. Just to reassure you that the reason comes from other fans and what I gather from the title.
It changed the pace of the series as it was the first Final Fantasy to be featured in 3D, featured a varied cast of characters, all new settings and locations, a refined battle system (Materia), A story unlike any of its predecessors, the first FF to be released onto a different console and a set of very memorable events.
DBoyNasty 1 year ago
DISC 3 was a curse. i had two copies and they both were messed up at the same spot. A friend of mind let me hold his with a problem at the ragnorok space part. Then my other friend lets me borrow his and he said all the disc work but the third one. I was like WTF cant play.through the whole damn game, but it was like my tenth time ending it anyway but still

Yurikan 1 year ago
This comment has received too many negative votes show
i agree completely with you all so ridiculous the whole thing where they all coincidentally were raised by her at like an orphanage and no one remembers? its just bad plot writing.
ccpimps 1 year ago
@Yurikan What are you talking about? Im to that part right now and Im not even halfway through disk 2.... And he has his reasons, though why he with held the information till THAT moment, I dunno. Drama maybe? >.> And yes, some of them were rediculous, but its to be expected when dealing with time travel and its sort of a destiny thing anyway, you know, grew up togeather, destined heroes, children of fate, etc, etc.
Eh, whatever, still loved the game anyway.
Moirah148 1 year ago 3
@Yurikan all square games are victim to bad writing not to mention i can think of more ludicrous events happening in other games(in ff4 giant neon space whale) .
also if you listen to NORG Martine set up that whole situation so that Balamb would get the blame Irvine was meant to fail from the beginning .... not to mention He wouldve hit Edea dead on but she blocked the bullet so he isnt to blame. and the memory thing is explained a loose convenient and random explantion but still its enough.
KrimHyu 1 year ago
Most of them are tied up, though the game does leave a few things unanswered-- how Cid and Edea managed to get the ship in the first place, how Galbadia Garden manages to simply vanish, how Ward manages to get away with using a nonstandard weapon in the military, how Kiros manages to avoid being so heavily wounded, how Caraway manages to NOT get killed(he's investigated, demoted, and even removed from office, yet still keeps his life), and how Seifer seems to have a psychic bond to Squall.

Lol that fight was a bitch at lvl 100... i just let her hit me with that 1 hp move and then popped invincible moon+lionheart spam.
kurbina1251 2 years ago
The reason for that is when her HP is 0, she will began to start talking, each time you hit her, it will cycle through each phrase one at a time, until she says "And...". After that, any hit will kill her. There was a lot of speculation of what she was going to say after that, such as revealing who she truly was, but it never happened.

Erghest 2 years ago
I liked VIII more than VII, though I'll admit I understand why everyone likes VII so much. Anyhow, We all like games for different reasons, and what one person thinks is stupid, others will like - it's just like music, or anything for that matter...and I don't have to be a game designer to know that....
ASteveVaiFan 2 years ago 68
That is true, yes, but there is a difference between something being objectively good and being subjectively good. Liking something does not automatically mean its good - hence, people enjoy B movies.
The reason that VII is considered better is because it actually unites itself around a specific point, the game has meaning - a point - it's about accepting the cards you've been dealt, learning to accept conditions outside of your control (cloud and sephiroth attempt to fight this, and...cont.)
Erghest 2 years ago
cont. from below... and experience denial and rage respectively.
Erghest 2 years ago 4
I thought ff8 wasn't too bad but I realllly didn't like Selphie, Irvine, or (especially) FUJIN. Unlike the rest of the world I found Zell a little funny.
I liked the GF system, and I liked the card game. The Laguna stuff was pretty neat, but the way Cid came onto Squall all game was just really weird.
ASteveVaiFan 2 years ago
@Erghest - I agree with you about that, especially about Hironobu. It gives more meaning because he was pouring his sorrow and pain into something creative. I have most of the Final Fantasy games, Final Fantasy VII is my favourite due to it being my first RPG and Final Fantasy. Final Fantasy VIII I like, and have tried to complete - got to disk 3, but alas Squall's attitude just put me off, plus I didn't find Rinoa very like-able.

Yeah mate, it's very close, I enjoyed FF 8 more than any other FF game, but 7 is awfully close in my books to being as good as 8 :), too bad all the final fantasy's after 8 sucked ass imo....though 12 was okay, aside from it's story which could have been a bit better.
vampirejack22 1 year ago
@vampirejack22 I find fun challenge value in 9 (the get all items/excalibur 2 challenge) and 10 had an annoying story but I found Seymour to be an awesome villain. I probably spent nearly as much time on Blitzball as the actual game since it was such a fun minigame in its own right. 12 was decent for me but there wasn't enough worthwhile sidequests, and espers weren't even worth summoning.

@serenadesilhout but they are totally different stories if any game picks up ff7 from where it stopped it would be advent children and then dirge of cerburus
mattbbuck 1 year ago
@ASteveVaiFan Games are quite objectively ratable unlike music. It's a certainty that GTAIV is better than GTA1. VIII's gameplay was poor, triple triad was fantastic but there was more variety with VII and it's fabulous gold saucer area. VII's setting was better, cyberpunk and varied human microcosms. VIII was generic futuristic with a few nice locations but not very relatable. The plot in VIII was nonsensical and half-assed, VII was extremely well done and memorable.
valleyshrew 1 year ago
@valleyshrew I understand all your points and they all do indeed make sense. At the same time, although the junction system was complex it was probably the most fun equip/powerup style a FF has offered once understood. And the main problem with FF8's plot (besides the orphanage gang crap) is the fact that Square knows something and wouldn't reveal it. The R=U theory is rejected, but things like Squall actually dying at the end of disc1 and similar ideas could pull the plot together.
