This could be my Father in Law's story. His folks came down from the mountains in the late '20's and settled just across Moreland Ave, until the depression ran them out.
I was born and raised in cabbagetown and once my house sells I'm never coming back either because what the new people don't realize is its not the name or houses that make cabbagetown .The people make cabbagetown and their gone so no use in coming back.
Can someone enlighten me on the chords? Looks like Bm, A, E. Am I wrong? I think this guy is underrated songwriter. I'm from Canada though, and maybe he's a lot more popular in US.
Patriotcom... You don't have a clue about the history of this song. Go to cabbage town and say that shit! Whiteboys with gold teeth and " tatted" up would bust your ass wide open.
@AtlRacerBoyz Are you kidding? There are tons of white guys with gold teeth in Cabbagetown and Tacotown, Atlanta. While there are some yuppies, it's still pretty grungy and tattoos and dreads are still the thing.. The mill is mostly occupied by African Americans.
I drove through there a couple of weeks ago. The only white boys with gold teeth there are the hipsters who are as terrifying as an unpotty trained labradoodle. 100lb women with strollers don't job through dangerous areas.

Who writes his lyrics? Some 10 year old in a special ed class? Horrible, no-talent. PT Barnum is once again proven correct by the sad sacks who paid to listen to this shit.
Shawn Mullins, fair songsmith! I wish him good luck. I enjoy Clay Cook playing with him. Clay is the nephew of Doug Gray of the Marshall Tucker Band. Clay also performs with Marshall Tucker.
Great Song! First time I heard it I thought it was odd that he put Cabbage Town in a bad light. But I figured he was refering to many years ago (Possibly his childhood) when Cabbage town wasn't a desired place to be.
My Great-Grandfather worked in the mill Shawn sings of. In 1902 at the age of 14 his leg was crushed to the waist by something falling off an open freight elevator. He played baseball his entire life despite the loss of his leg.

Think "Wicked Game" by Chris Isaaks and you'll be able to play this one. :-)
Shawn Mullins is definitely not as appreciated as his talent deserves.

There aren't any whiteboys with gold teeth in Cabbagetown. It's yuppy land for real. The real ghettos of Atlanta are OTP.
Great song!
