Thanks Tom, Really nice sounding banjo made by a really kind man . I played one of its type by Mike Ramsey years back at Tony's shop in Amherst . I love the deep throaty thing . If you are ever in Connecticut stop by my pottery shop for some tunes .. All the best , Guy
Excuse me while I cry from Rapture. That banjo is absolutely beautiful! I knew the old Minstrels were big, but this took me by a bit of a surprise. XD And that sound is absolutely amazing! I'm working on building my own fretless minstrel, similar to this, though more to the size of a bluegrass banjo. If I can find some longer strings than what I'm currently using. I will definitely try building something to this scale and tone.
i assume you made that banjo yourself, very very good, i attemded once, it came out much more square and no fun, needless to say i don't play that one, very good
Great stuff, makes we really wish I could learn to play a banjo meself! Fantastic stuff mate, upload some more for us to listen too and watch! Anyone recomend any good banjo CD'S to buy as I am proper hooked!
For those of you inquiring about the banjo: it's a James Hartel "Henry Stichter" model minstrel reproduction. 14 inch head, 31 inch scale length. It's strung with gut strings.
James Hartel makes gorgeous banjos. I highly recommend his instruments!
Great tune, great playing, and great banjo! Where on earth did you get that from? My fretless banjo is prettier, but it's not as loud or as clear as that beast! Anyway, hats off to ya!
what a cannon! Hartel does great work.

They had some larger head diameters back then. That banjo is fourteen inches and it was a pretty popular design at the time.

Chris Thile's and the How to Grow a Band - How to Grow a Women From the Ground and Not All Who Wander Are Lost...
uhhhh
The Old Crow Medicine Show - O.C.M.S. and anything else you can find...
The Avett Brothers - Emotionalism and Four Thieves Gone.
If you want to go old school go track down some of Gus Cannon's Jug Stompers...
If you can't find them (which you might not, most of his recordings still on wax cylinders from the 1800s)
