The 305 TBI Caprice I just got has 304K miles on it and starts almost instantly in this type of weather. You should get yours fixed lol, it's not doing okay.

I had an 83 caprice and that thing would start instantly when it was 30+ below. That 305 was an awesome engine!

Is it only hard starting when it's cold , or every morning? It sounds like it fires almost then doesn't, maybe losing it;s prime. I would inspect fuel lines for pinholes. Maybe consider replacing fuel pump.

It needs a tune up I am sure. The block heater has a short. But for 188k I think it is doing ok for now. :)

Jesus dude, get the ignition system tuned up. New plugs, wires, cap, rotor, maybe a new fuel filter. Possibly some 0w-30 synthetic motor oil. She should crank and fire like it's June!

Not 0w-30 syn in a TBI engine.. Its a flat tappet cam.... no ZZDP... 5w-30 is plenty thin anyway.

Ow-30 Mobil 1 SM/GF-4 for example, has exactly the amount of ZDDP as any other SM/GF-4 oil, synthetic or conventional.

all gas oil has zddp in it. zddp is manditory for flat solid lifters, not flat hydraulic.

It kind of sounds to me like the power steering pump,like when you turn the wheel all the way one direction. The power steering fluid is probably like molasses at those temps and takes a few seconds to get going through the pump. I don't know that for certain but that is my best guess.
