  • funny how in that film she's a staright woman raped and real life she's gay and so is one of the 3 men who rape her, steve antin, he's gay in real life too!

  • as good as the film is in many ways such as when she sees the man who orchestrated the rape in the record shop, and later how she smashes into the car. To me how that film plays out after she gets into her car it almost plays out like a comedy like "9 to 5", or something like that.

Still she definetly was the best actress of that year, still it wasnt a hard year when she was nominated, plus the director isnt very good.

As is always the way, real characters win oscars, but the directors dont

  • Check out actress Maria Anastacia Keogh on IMDB

  • Where can I watch 'The Accused' online?

From what I've seen it looks REALLY good.

    Yay for Jodie Foster!

  • @HotDogWolf1 It is a very good film, but very difficult to watch.

  • "my name, my name, my name..... them bingo" Love it lol

  • I just saw "The Accused". It was a beautiful movie. I don't know about the other Oscar nominees that year, but I can can that Jodie Foster did a great job in that movie. Excellent.

  • i've always loved jodie's choice in roles. The last one i really enjoyed was the Brave One. After that I discovered the Little Girl Who Lives Down the Lane. I also like how she picks fun movies like Nima's Island and Freaky Friday. So unexpected.

  • @Lilmusicman13 Sorry, but she didn't play in freaky friday? That was Jamie Lee Curtis. And for the last one, it was Nims Island.

  • @PhalangesDancing she did play in freaky friday. She played opposite Barbara Harris. It came out in 1976. It's actually the first version. The one ur talking about is the remake. Alot of people know that.

  • @Lilmusicman13 sorry my bad! *mind overload* (i replied, and then, when hitting the botton; frak. ofcourse!) Sorry. :S

  • @jkfromcincty that was harsh lol- so you don't think she has talent. Or is she just overrated?

  • Comment removed

  • @jkfromcincty what do you mean "Clinched jaw"?.... oh you mean, clenched jaw....

Well, between you saying "clinched jaw" and her winning two oscars and graduating magna cum laude from yale....

    just get your spellings straight

  • @jkfromcincty That's your opinion. She has the most expressive eyes and face. Not just jaw. lol.

  • yeah she

SUCK 3 or 4 dicks for do this movie even than she is a lesbian

    i love her

  • Does anybody know the full name of jodie's character?

  • Sarah Tobias

  • @iwannabewitu1

If you mean the real name of the woman this story is based on, then it is Cheryl Araujo.

  • The movie was hard to watch but was necessary to show that what happened to the victim in the movie was wrong, no matter what her lifestyle, beliefs, etc were. This was an attack and act of violence that should never happen to anyone. Jodie Foster played it beautifully.

  • EXACTLY!!!!!!!

  • i know,it was...

ive watched it twice, i always fast forward past the rape scene, but one thing i like about the movie was Saras character, the tough girl, the fun girl and i could totally picture her being my friend, despite the age difference.

I think one thing that makes it hard to watch was the fact that one of my friends, was raped, so i know someone who went through a similar experience,so i always end up thinking of her.

  • She has such a lovely personality - one of my favourite actresses.

  • I remember watching this movie when I was a little girl.

I can't remember much of it, but the rape scene is the one thing that remained in my head all over the years. It was shocking.

  • Yeah, I wish there was some way to watch the whole interview. I wish it was still up here because it's never on TV.

If someone could please post the rest, that'd be much appreciated.

  • Hi Lily,

I found a link to watch the whole interview if you are interested. I can't post it on youtube though. You'd have to watch it on the website. I hope that will do..

  • can u watch the whole interview somewhere somehow?or can u upload the rest? help.... thanks

  • "my name, my name, my name.." that was so cute, wasn't expecting that. I think I like her more now... so honest.

  • Jodie was fantastic in this movie, but personally I'll never watch it again!

I think it's obviously good they gave a voice to women who have had to go through such a horrendous ordeal ( I don't know how you could ever trust a man again, or even be in a room alone with a guy if this happened to you!), but the rape scene was too much for me to handle. Some things I can imagine the pain and horror of without having to SEE it.

  • i agree i saw it and had to look away in the theater. Horrible thing. i can't imagine any woman going through that! those men should all hang publicly

  • That's the point of the movie. I also almost couldn't bare watching it, but I only watched it on the DVD and I'm sure it was a different experience in cinema. It was quite shocking, It might also have been the first rape movie I watched.

  • I agree completely with you. I loved the movie, but definitely not the subject matter. That film made me so angry that I doubt I'll ever watch it again. Just thinking about it now makes me very, very sad.

  • I'm sorry, I didn't understand you the first time I read that comment. I actually heard about this case in ' Slut! Growing up female with a bad reputation' by Leora Tanenbaum, and in the book the facts I stated were correct. Oh well.

  • In the story that the movie was based on, all of the rapists and on lookers were hispanic. But Hollywood is too PC for that so they made them white.

  • considering the subject matter I think it is amazing it was made in any form.

  • Why is that? Portraying men as evil vicious rapists and women as their victims is one of the things that keeps Hollywierd going.

  • For me the portrayal of the men and their actions is secondary to the graphic and tour de force performance by Miss Foster. I can't even imagine how hard it was to film that seen for all concerned.

  • Oh, I give Jodie a lot of credit for taking the part. She was great as she always is. But remember, it's a fictionalized story. The basics may be true but as in all Hollywood movies the truth is what the director and/or studio wants it to be. After the witness to the rape tells the story, the defendants and defense attorney have this guilt-ridden surrender look on their faces. Remember the OJ trial. Even if you're guilty beyond any doubt lie through your teeth and fight every witness.

  • It's not fictionalized. The incident happened in 1988, in a bar called 'Joe's Bar' on a pool table. So they changed the place, and the name of the bar. It's still real. Men still have a feeling of sexual entitlement (Oh, your a woman, and I am a man, therefore I am better than you).

  • It happened in 1983, not 1988. The movie was made in 1988. The name of the bar was Big Dan's, not "Joe's Bar." The Accused is a fictionalized version of a true story, as I said. If you don't understand what that means maybe you should get your facts straight before you respond. The truth is the truth, not what you want it to be.

  • I hope you mean "some men", right?

  • The victim and the rapists were all Portugese immigrants. Please do not make it look like a case of a white woman being raped by ethinic minorities.

  • Please do not make it look like a case of a white woman being raped by ethnic minorities? I never said the victim was white. Would it make you happier if she was? The rapists were Portuguese. Those are the facts. The movie makers changed those facts for their movie as Hollywood usually does. Hollywood like white male perpetrators and black/female/gay victims. No matter what the facts really are.

  • They changed the facts in order so that the majority of viewers at the time (that happened to be white) could relate to the film. Otherwise it would have been an ethnic movie about ethnic issues and would have lost the entire point (that point being the injustice that female victims of rape suffer in the legal system). I agree that Hollywood is usually to fixated on being politically correct, but this is not an example of that.

  • You don't think that changing rapists from minority to white and making the female victim into a victim/hero is political correctness? What would you call it?

  • Would it make you happier if she was? <---- That is an unnecessary attack and insult and an assumption that makes absolutely no sense.

  • They changed the characters to white people so their target market (other white people) could internalize the film, not to reach a standard of political correctness..

  • course i am not an idiot i jus wonder why it mattered i mean what difference does it make.

  • I love, love, love, Jody Foster, she is the ultimate actress. I have had a thing for her since I was a kid, she is only 4 months older than I am. She is smart, sexy and I love that she is so quiet about her personal life. She isn't in the headlines every second of the day and she is a great role model for young women. She doesn't take any crap from anyone and she is just a very down to earth woman. Oh, did I say I loved her? LOL

  • MAIS ON S EN FICHE DE SAVOIR SI ELLE EST HETERO OU LESBIEN ETC...sa vie privée ne regarde personne son talent d actrice me suffit amplement.

    bonne continuation à Me Foster.

  • Oh dear. It seems there are people who dont like the look of the real world and what happens in it when they are shown how brutal it can be. 'Women dont get raped, children dont get killed' say it over and over and click your ruby slippers together and whisper theres no place like home.

  • I hated this film. Seeing a woman being gang raped in the back of a bar is a DISTURBING thing to see. I'm a man and it disgusted me and left me feeling sick.

  • Especially cos the scene lasted about 10 f@#king minutes.

It's a good film but I felt so sick after watching that scene.

  • That's the whole point; rape is brutal, ugly, disgusting, and disturbing. What is more disturbing is that people can stand arounding cheering it on.

  • who says she is ashamed?if she hasnt mentioned it its because it is no one elses business.

  • who gives a damn whether she is gay or straight? how pathetic.

  • @bunnikins28 well i must admit when she plays a straight women and has a bf/husband it just doesnt work.

  • @chinahands100 I disagree. In Maverick, she was convincing acting really feminime and had a nice chemistry with Mel Gibson. She's a good actress. It's a bit wrong to assume someone can't play something because of their sexuality. Straight people get rewarded for playing gay all the time. And I'm sure there are lots of closeted actors who have played straight all their careers and no one knows.

  • @bunnikins28 yes what does it matter-the fact is she is a brilliant actress ;-0

  • jodie foster has made an amazing film here.jeez did she deserve that oscar !this is one of the most harrowing films i have ever seen.really intelligently done but really harrowing !!!!!!

  • she's not ashamed because she doesn't want to hold a press conference and share her sex life with the entire world. THat's her business. She doesn't owe us anything but her great work as an actor. She's dated guys before and wasn't public about that either. She's an actress who want to be private.Lots of straight actors are private too why can't Jodie be?she should be able to do whatever the hell she wants in her private life and not owe anyone anything.

  • maybe she just doesnt want ppl knowing HER business.. that doesnt mean shes ashamed

  • who said she was ashamed??? she doesnt have to come out and announce that shes a lesbian if she doesnt want to, she might not even be one.. but no one said she was ashamed. she doesnt act ashamed does she??

  • what?

  • how is that any of your business.. what makes it so important that she needs to admit it mind your own damn business whats it to you????

  • jodie foster is the best acrtess ever

  • and...?what does that have to do with her great work as an actor? You wouldn't go on a Meryl Streep section and talk about her being a heterosexual so why does it matter so much to you?

  • great actress and very brave to do a film with such a serious plot to it. i liked her in Silence of the lambs

  • wots your point???????

  • ur a lesbian, or u are just jealous. She did a great job in the movie and won an oscar.

  • can someone please post all of this "inside the actors studio" interview?

  • I think Jodie is a very brilliant actress, I dont understand her either, it took lots of guts to play the part she did

  • I am always so surprised that she thought she was terrible in The Accused! I thought she was brilliant!

  • Jodie's performance in the Accused is the ultimate example of a great actress rising above the material and carrying a film with just her performance. I mean because without her great and raw acting it's basically just a lifetime movie. Hey can someone post her interviews about Silence of the Lambs, Contact and Panic Room, please?

  • she was great in this

    great story

  • I don't like that guy because he is so stiff and physically unable to laugh along with the actors.

  • How lovely is she i Love her!

  • She's so unpretentious. My hero!

  • It's really refreshing to see someone who's such a big star yet still so down to earth. You know if you met her she'd be completely normal. A huge star who actually still lives in the real world.
