lots of weird hatin' goin' on, here. if you weren't there for the '80s, you wouldn't understand, so don't even try. these 'flaming homos' had some HUGE club hits--and it wasn't a fluke.
It's about anal sex from his boyfriend. "Hit that perfect beat" is about how good it feels taking it up the ass from his gay lover. It's about the rhythmical pounding that feels good deep in his colon. That's what "the beat boy feeling" is.
whenever i hear this song, i have a mental image of Meatwad from "Aqua Teen Hunger Force" dancing around -- because they're singing "eat that perfect meatball"
@MikeAnglichanen I dont think it has any significance. At that time in the UK there was just a lot of russian inspired design work around on album covers and the work of graphic designers like Neville Brody. If you can fisn Sarah Brightman's video "how can heaven love me" even she is waving one around :)
@MikeAnglichanen there is significance .the movie clips are from a movie called letter to Brezhnev, which was filmed in Liverpool, as was this Bronski video. The movie is based on the true story of a liverpool girl who, on a night out meets a russian sailor. they keep in contact by mail..no not e mail , didnt exist then..well when she decides she wants to move to russia to be with the sailor, everybody tries to put her off from leaving, her parents ,her friends, and even the british government.
remember, this was the height of the cold war, so it would have looked disatrous for a western girl to be seen to be 'defecting ' to the eastern bloc.
she was having none of their bullshit and wrote a letter tp president brezhnev. the russian president , according to the film granted her a visa to go live with her sailor
@MikeAnglichanen a bit more trivia..the club bronski are playing in is the same club that appears in the movie, and is the same club Frankie goes to Hollywood made the 'relax' video in...the club is/was called 'the state'
@keef40 I thought Jimmy Somerville was the singer from bronski beat? I guess this singer was before or after he was in the band. Is the state club still in Liverpool?
@MikeAnglichanen i dont know what happened to jimmy somerville ..i remember there was this guy and jimmy..as for the state club, i dont know. its been 24 years since i left liverpool and havent been back for 17 years..i would imagine the state is no longer, more than likely a different name if still a club..there has been massive change in liverpool since i left. the skyline has changed completely...another americanised city.....
but from what i hear , its still a great night out..as a teenager working in a hifi shop, the singer and bass player from flock of seagulls worked upstairs from our shop, as hairdressers. pete burns from dead or alive worked down the road a bit in 'probe', an independent record shop. the two guys from OMD would come into a friends instrument shop across the road to look at keyboards...it was a great time.julian cope from teardrop explodes could be seen around town too
and even courtney love lived there for a while before anyone had heard of her...in fact , courtney reckons she lost her virginity to a guy who used to go to my school. mike mooney, who at one stage played guitar with the psychedelic furs, as a session guitar player
@keef40 Hello keef40 ! I found your inf in the columns above very interesting, I am a big fan of the 80's music. I love the Bronski Beat, the late 70's and 80's gave us the all time greatest musicians ever ! and it seemed they all came from the other side of the pond mainly the UK, espicially around the "Liverpool" area, I wish I was there to see the great musicians you saw. I love all the music but my very favorite is "Dead or Alive" I love Pete Burns, the most gorgeous man I have ever seen.
@211coronado did i mention Pete worked in a record shop 'probe', just along the road from the hifi shop i worked in for a short time...he came in one day to buy blank cassette tapes..i offered some for free in return for any bowie import vinyl he could steal for me..he got me 7'' australian rebel rebel/queen bitch/sorrow /amsterdam....theres a movie set in merseyside late 79, ''awaydays''...
2 of the characters go into ''probe''(recreated), and are served by a 'camp' guy who is without a doubt based on Pete....oh yeah frank maudsley and mike score , flock of seagulls , bass and vocals , respectively, were hairdressers in shop above ours..they came in for studio reel tape..same thing, we made a deal..when i finished work, i went and got a blonde 'young americans'' hairdo, lol...happy days...if i'm repeating, sorry, cant be bothered looking back at what i wrote
this is the 'probe' scene'...the movie takes me back ..it was very much my time, torn between thinking i was a soccer hooligan, or the music...so i'd go to the games wearing a fedora and smoking gitane's , gauloise, ala bowie...fantastic music in this movie

First there was Jimmy Somerville on "Age Of Consent", then John Foster (AKA "Jon Jon") on the "Truthdare Doubledare" album and finally Jonathan Hellyer from the "Rainbow Nation" album. Jon Jon worked with Steve Bronski again in the 90's.
Jimmy Sommerville is like gay tintin, and on the subject did tintin ever have a girlfriend in those herge comics?
Nope I dont think so, just hanging around the older crusty captain Haddock most of the time, a sailor.. who also never had a woman either, and was snowy the white dog really a symbol for something else?
@tinroofbusted well its eighties you know, I grew up with it while most gays were still hiding in the closet, so I didnt really see it as gay music, I knew the band was gay of course, I just didnt think of the music as gay, it was just a good song thats all.
@Zephyesa The music is not gay music you are right to think that way, It says so much more about the social times and attitude at the time. It great music I was in high school at the time so was my wife. We just remember it as good times and great dancing.
been randomly flickin thru some of these 80s tunes and the memories they bring back fook me goin out clubbing 4 the first time etc, I'm not one who disses todays tunes cos I love them too, but these were groundbreaking artists who layed the blueprint down. thank the women have sorted their hair out in the 21st century though

Hey @Lordrockington - no-one got knifed until 2006. Knives weren't invented until 2003, by Wal Mart, as everyone knows. It took 3 years for people to realise they could be used on people.

Wow, I ink to a video of Die Antwoord showing how they used this and it gets removed, but yet people can talk about "beating that fucking meat boy" and it stays up. Fuck you very much
