  • Manhunter was, for me, of all of mann's films, the best mix of sound and visuals - the music was perfectly atmospheric...

  • I think of all of Mann's "cop/criminal" movies, Heat is obviously, by far the best. I would say Thief is a little better than Collateral, just liked the storyline more in Thief. Miami Vice was so so.

  • great!

  • anyone know the name of the song

  • Les trois films sont magnifiques, belle video.

  • Miami Vice was Smooth...I Loved it and Mann left me wanting more!... Michael took it to the limit ... hope he does it one more time!

  • there was something very raw about heat that made u feel like this is really how it is, slightly less so in collateral but that movie was so fuckin' deep it made up 4 it. but i found miami vice 2 be fake, idk y but i just didn't buy it there were so many problems with the operational structure of the cops & the criminals that it just wasn't believable.

  • Chilling @ the crib watching this amazing video on the big Plasma Screen! I've watched this video like... God only knows! Love it ever time I see it!

  • Heat

    The insider

    Last of the mohicans

    Collateral

    Ali

    Public enemies

    Thief

  • I like ALL the Michael Mann movie's ive seen.

    1) Heat

    2)Collateral

    3)Miami Vice

    4)Public Enemies.

Michael Mann also produced Hancock :p

  • Awesome job! My favorite Mann films and you edited the video and audio together so well!

  • This is superbly done. Michael Mann and the city at night are magical. Then throw in the music...forget it.

  • Perfect mix darling, thank you.

  • ah johnny boy you obviously havent seen the insider collateral last of the mohicans...there great films!

  • "there great films!" - is this "irish" or how would call that? i know that many males between 10-30 adore his movies. but that still doesn't change my opinion that all of his movies except heat are crap. in fact it's another proof that his movies are indeed bullshit. and last mohicans? seriously? this movie is so fucking lame that you fall asleep. and i'm a huge fan of daniel day-lewis.

  • lame ..is this american?! but seriously i respect your point of view

  • watch Collateral brother.

  • Great video. Thief should have been in here though too. I know it's an older one, but it's still a classic.

  • Yes - Thief is a great movie and all of these are the offspring of Thief.

  • I'd say Heat is about my favorite. What are your guys' favorites? Alot of people didn't think Miami Vice was that good. I thought it was a great movie. Haven't seen Public Enemies yet.

  • i think heat is the best of all michael mann movies

  • Well done......

  • coul

  • Public Enemies is being released on DVD pretty soon. How u planning to update your tribute?

  • @amrajmann - I'm not. Once I finish a project, it's finished. Working on other stuff.

  • Scott, fantastic job with this trailer/video... insane!!

  • Michael Mann, by far, has put out some of the most hard core, legit, gangster films, HEAT being the best. His movies make you feel VS. having to explain the life of his characters. Pure genius. Michael, if you're reading this...know that your action is the best! Simply the best! Best line in Miami Vice: "In this business I do not buy a service, I buy a result. If you say you're going to do a thing, you must do, exactly, that thing." Next best: "Oh yeah, ...I'm a disco guy" !!

  • Love everthing Michael Mann put's his creative hand's on, 10 / 10. .

  • Fantastic!

  • this video is freaking awesome ... "Heat" the best ever ..

  • Dantethepilgrim

you sir, have put together a wonderful compilation!! Beautifully done!

    Ghostwisper666

    my sentiments exactly!

  • Heat is the singal greatest movie of all time.

  • I'd say it's #2, right behind Apocalypse Now.

  • iv never seen that film is that the war film?

  • *Forehead smack*

    See it! Absolutely essential viewing.

And although it's set in the Vietnam war, I would argue at it's core it is not a war film...

  • Excuse me what is the name of the first song you use in your michael mann tribute which by the way is excellant. Great job man.

  • @risenphoneix - "God Moving Over the Face of the Water" by Moby.

  • Wow! What a fantastic video!

  • FUCKING AWESOME VIDEOOO!!

Not only Michael Mann is a wonderful filmmaker, not only these three movies are his best, not only he has an unnate quality to make incredible moving endings, but you have put all that in this simple video. I applaud you.

  • best video on youtube !!!

  • i loved collateral alot , it was tom cruises best movie

  • collateral is the best movie everrrrrrrrr

  • Comment removed

  • Anyone know what the third song is called thanks in advance

  • Auto Rock by Mogwai

  • "Heat" is one of my all time favorite films. "Collateral" was very good.

    "Miami Vice" sucked.

  • I agree, miami vice is the worse movie he has made.

  • we share similar taste, PatrickBateman, because American Psycho is also one of my favorite movies. I guess you could call me a Bale aficionado.

  • Good! You are ok man!

  • Great sea urchin ceviche!

American Psycho is my favourite movie

I find it quite unusual that that particular movie shares so much fans with Michael Mann. Coincidence? :)

  • And you like Terminator!...yeah you have good taste for the movie :) come to see my channel maybe you can find some interesting video ,bye!

  • Fantastic piece of work here Dante, Extreme Ways now officially resonates with me as a Mann soundtrack over the Bourne films. Any plans to update it with Public Enemies when it comes to Blue Ray or you just going to leave this aura alone with these three films as it is?

  • The nicest compliment anyone could give this video is the association of Extreme Ways with Michael Mann, rather than Bourne. Means I did something right! Thanks.

I think I'll leave this as is. Got a couple projects up my sleeve. One should be done soon. The other could take years...

  • great video!congratulations! my 3 fave films well actually public enemies has been added to it,you should do one with all four movies

    LONG LIVE MANN!

  • Excellent compilation, well done!

  • 5:21 fuck me they dont fuck about!

  • Amazing. Absolutely amazing.

  • Is that Michael Manns directing or dantethepilgrim ediing?

  • More the former, I would imagine.

  • Magnificent compilation!! You have captured the very essence of three of my favorite movies of ALL TIME!! Excellent job! Thank you.

  • you have forgot the one that starts it all - Thief with James Caan and Belushi there is actually a comment in Heat regarding Thief - when De Niro getting info about Pacino Voigt is telling him that he got Jimmys crew in Chicago, which was name and place of Caans crew in Thief

  • Just watched Heat, and he says FRANKIE suchandsuch's crew, not Jimmy

  • ye you right its some time ago I have seen it last time but othervise i think is nice touch to connect two great movies more ten one decade appart

  • Nate is talking about Frankie Yonder, a real thief in the 60s.

  • Public Enemies looks good but its his next proyect im really looking forward to. The Winter of Frankie Machine. Look it up and then youll know what im talking about. And De Niro is slated to portray Frankie.

  • Cannot agree more. Mann is a film innovator. Realistic digital filming, truely amazing!!

  • Michael Mann's films stick with you long after you have watched them. All of his film's are Haunting, Atmospheric, and feel like you are there. Mr. Mann is a Born Filmmaker, like Ridley Scott and Steven Spielberg, they know how to entertain and give you movies like no other, especially the music picked for each film....PERFECT. THANK YOU FOR POSTING THIS

  • ridley scott and spielberg are overrated. spielberg isn't but hes not the best. mann is the best filmmaker today.

  • I feel like alot of people forget the insider which, in terms of oscar noms, was his most successful film. Although im not saying that the oscars are a measure of success. I still think Heat is his undisputed masterpeice

  • manhunter, thief, the last of the , mohicans, collateral, heat, the insider, true genius

  • Astonishing and exquisite.

  • let's not forget the insider and manhunter, both tremendous films

  • heat is the best movie ever and miami vice is the best tv show ever !

  • Yeah Public Enemies is going to make me want to do another one of these.

  • that would be fucking awesome if you did. Try to include Thief as well

  • Yeah if I did it I think I would focus on how robbery and robbing banks has changed and evolved. Probably include Public Enemies, Heat, and Thief.

  • This is brilliant

  • Departed is my favourite movie

and Inside Man one of mine

but Miami Vice was not for me

    I liked Mann´s direction but

I expected a more exciting script

  • what's the best one according to you?

  • The Best? Heat.

    My Personal Favorite? Collateral.

  • Heat is the best of those three, easily. But Mann's best film is Manhunter. Heat and Manhunter are Mann's finest.

  • Mann makes the best crimes movies. I cant wait to see Public Enemies...and for the record, I even loved Miami Vice.

  • I love Mann

    I loved Heat

    I loved Collateral

    but I hated Miami Vice

  • people miss the point on MV. it's a cold lonely world and he portrays it brilliantly. even the glamour (planes, beaches, top designer suits, night clubs, ferraris) looses it's glow as they have other things on their minds. brilliant. I saw it twice in the theaters. this movie is cold as ice and he portrays the void so brilliantly like everyone in the drug world is possessed and they are good guys trying to fight for whatever soul they have left in that dark world.

  • ur right the movie more closely resembled the later seasons of miami vice when the plot and mood got dark and gloomy and film-noir-style. I just thought it should have been more like the first season with a coked up, eccentric, environment with brightly colored pastel suits and flashy testarosas

  • MANN hands down the best director his chocie of film, music and actors is unbelivable i dont just love the moments with talking and action but the moments where there is nothing but silent emotion the actors say more in them moments then in the whole film for me the best dirctor ever. i love the grain effect that mann puts on all of his films top bloke

    1.HEAT

    2.MIAMI VICE

    3.COLATERAL

  • I agree man I think Miami Vice is his second best under Heat. The Insider comes third

  • Fantastic tribute! Michael Mann is one of my favorite directors, and i love these three movies, well Miami Vice was good but not as good as Heat or Collateral.

  • Heat and Collateral are 2 masterpieces but Miami Vice...is too banal and borig.

  • nice vid sir!

    perfect quotes, perfect songs....

  • Mann makes us fall in love with "bad" guys, which just passionate with what they do, and also think about life and time we got...

    Amaizing nature and citi shots...

  • 3 of my favorites!

    What's your favorite quote?

  • This completely heartbreaking line from Collateral:

"Hey Max, guy gets on the MTA, dies. Think anybody will notice?"

It perfectly encapsulates the deeply complex relationship (friendship even) between Max and Vincent. It adds another layer to Vincent's character that suggests he might not be such a sociopath after all if he is worried about society noticing him. And finally, it totally summarizes the tone and events of the film we have just watched. All in about 12 words. Amazing.

  • If I could cheat, I would chose the entire scene leading up to Max crashing the cab in Collateral.

I can't post a link, but the scene is in my Favorites under "Carpe Diem from Collateral"

  • Epic movies !

  • nice video!!!

  • Quality video and quality song, love this song in heat really sets the the final scene. Out the three tho collateral is my favourite, i love heat and miami vice is alrite but the performances of cruise and foxx are top notch. Awesome film kept me gripped from start to finish.

  • I felt Thief was too obscure and unknown, and Last of the Mohicans would have been too jarring and thematically irrelevant. As the title says, this video is about CRIME in MANN films.

  • Scott Leger, you shud be very proud of urself

  • Haha thanks, but I try not to be.

Pride is the #1 cause of shitty movies.

  • DAMN GOOD MOVIES!

Hey, you guys may be interested on how to make $500 to 8K per month for LIFE. It's the most AMAZING SYSTEM I have ever seen for FREE. Just reply to my comment. There is a guy in California who charges $12 for what I tell you for Free.

  • I kinda think that Tom Cruise from Collateral

looks like Bobby De from Heat.

Does anyone here agree with me?

  • Mann may be the only Director that gives u as much info about the bad guy in his films than the good guy.

But that actually keeps u entertained.

  • ^There's been a theory flying around for years that Vincent and Neil are brothers.

I don't know how much evidence there is to support or reject said theory...

  • interesting.

Thats why they seem very much alike.

  • Is this just because he says, "I got a brother somewhere?" If so, I have to strongly disagree. That has nothing to do in my view with the relationship between Vincent and Neil.

  • This reminds me of when my cousin and I saw Jurassic park, which came out 2 years before this. We were six then. He was convinced that Nedry was Hammond's some because he said "You know you're right, Dad. Everything's my problem." He hadn't learned what sarcasm meant yet. lol

  • Thats one of the reasons.

    Even Dantethepilagrim (this vids maker)

said that it is possble as there is some evidence.

Also they both look so much similar.

They act in the same manner.

  • As I said earlier, there's not really much evidence to support the theory, nor is there much to reject it.

Most of all, I would point to the fact that Heat and Collateral are, in my opinion, sister stories. As such, it's not out of the question that there might be some overlap or interconnectivity with the characters.

  • Dang! Collateral got me into Mann films. Awesome Montage! Go collateral and Heat!

  • if you liked COLLATERAL and HEAT, check out these other movies by MICHAEL MANN,,,THIEF, MANHUNTER, LAST OF THE MOHICANS, MIAMI VICE: MANN is a born filmmaker who likes to give a real feel to his movies and brother do they ever leave their mark on you.

  • AND The Insider.

  • Perfect!

  • his on scene shooting and vision is amazing. Very nice tribute Mann.

  • forgotten how good this was. Good stuff. more to come??

  • Look for a landmark film from Clutch-Gear-Gas Productions Summer '09.

Another Music Video is currently in production, but only about 1/5 complete.

  • very nice video brah, finest tribute i watched

  • probably the finest Mann tribute video ever!

  • Watching a Michael Mann film is like being right inside the action. His background scenery is amazing. You can always tell a Michael Mann film when the background scenery is a character in the movie. Heat & Collateral, L.A. is a character in the movie. Not only see it, you can feel it. I'm from L.A. I watched this movie in Utah and when I walked out of the theatre I'm thinking I'm in L.A. I walked out and I said "Damn, I'm in Utah, shit!" Excellent HOMAGE to the MANN......thanx 4 posting

  • This song is called "Extreme Ways" from the Bourne Movies, by Moby

  • anyone know this song that kicks in about a half way. It sounds like moby.

  • It is called,"God moving over the face of the water" and it is by Moby. It is on the original soundtrack and and album called," Play the B sides"

  • Michael Mann is one of hollywoods finest directors I cant wait for Manns next film about the dillinger gang. "Is mr. Blue dead?" Response "Dead as Dillinger" The Reservoir Dogs.

  • Heat is one of my favorite movies...right along side with another Micheal Mann masterpiece....The Last of the Mohicans.

  • I never really liked Miami Vice; but overall good video.

  • Yeah, Miami Vice would have worked better under a different name with different characters. Like, a separate crime film on its own not connected to the 80's series.

  • Great montage of Mann's work good music compilation

  • true

  • Great editing!

    Thanks

    Bob

  • very well put together i enjoyed your work

  • collateral and miami vice are great movies, but heat really is in a class of its own and is the one of the best action movies out there

  • I think the scene early in Miami Vice where the two undercover agents get shot to hell in the front seat of their car . . . I think that's the most violent scene of any Mann film. Not buckets of blood. Just damn violent. Great movies, and I like MV better than Collateral.

  • 3 great films of Michael Mann, very good video,

  • Great vid!!!

  • Very good video !!!

I love Collateral and Heat !!!

  • FACT: Mann cannot make a bad film.

  • Wow great stuff. I Loved Miami vice, great movie .

  • i remember getting an hour into Miami Vice and i haven't tried watching it since. i wasn't a fan of the show either....

but i loved Collateral and Heat, and Moby is pretty underrated. soooooo this was a pretty rad upload

  • i thought the excact same watched it 4 about half hour didnt like the camera he used

  • All great films, but I still think Heat takes first place.

  • Why the playlist plays all videos automatically?

  • OUTSTANDING!!!

  • probably the finest Mann tribute video ever!

  • this is one epic video

  • He really has an eye for color and cool-factor villains. Tom Cruise as Vincent was one of the best I have ever seen. The fight scenes were also notable for their realism and noise.

  • I left a comment some months ago! I can relate to some of the other viewers about watching this piece several times if not every week! Masterful job on this! You've got mad skills! I'd write more, but I want to watch this again!

  • totally i like this piece and b/c of it's duration i cue it sometimes as some background music, when i'm on the net. along with films of mann

  • Cheers

  • Does anyone Know what the first music track on this tribute is called?

  • Music: (Chronologically)

"God Moving Over the Face of the Waters" by Moby

    "Extreme Ways" by Moby

    "Auto Rock" by Mogwai

  • I got only one word for your video: INGENIOUS!!!

I absolutely love Michael Mann Movies, especially HEAT and COLLATERAL!!

  • N e one know the name of the last song?

    Thanks in advance

  • As listed, (but perhaps a little too small) the song is 'Auto Rock' by Mogwai

  • Quite simply......breathtaking.

So much passion has gone into this video. I've lost count how many times i've seen these movies. Michael Mann is a god.

I'd be serving this video a severe injustice if i rated it below 5 stars. 5* for sure.

  • I loved it! What editing program was used??

  • Sony Vegas 6.0

  • Mann is a genius when it comes to urban crime drama. 5 stars.

  • It is not my nature to gush, but I return to this mash up again and again because it is utterly propulsive. The editing has been synced wonderfully to extreme ways, and the crosscutting between different methods of travels (boats, Cruise in the taxi, DeNiro's crew shooting out of the limo) is breathtaking. This has completely inspired me to do my own mashup. Absolutely fantastic!

  • Superb. 5 Stars+. Have to agree this one is one of the best montages I have ever seen.

  • once extreme ways takes over, it hooks. Well done - not enough Mann fans out there.

  • Michael Mann is a born filmmaker. All of his movies have an atmosphere about them that you feel. The music he choses for his films fit almost perfectly. MIAMI VICE was an underrated classic. He brings a realism to each of his films that cannot be matched. Wonderful tribute video.

  • i became a fan of his movies at about 15. i am now 25. pound 4 pound, line 4 line, scene 4scene HEAT is the definitive Micheal Mann Movie. Now, 4 everyone who says MV sucked, i won't be too hard on u because ur obviously fans of Mann, however, a true fan would appreciate MV and Collateral for exactly what he says they r, an instant in the lives of these people. it was a 2 hr episode of an updated miami vice show nothing profound.a drop in the bucket. u can't begin imagine the back story he wrote

  • Awesome, Mann is the Man for sure. Loved it, 5 stars.

  • sweet lord miami vice sucked. sorry to harsh your vibe, but i have to say that whenever michael mann comes up. next montage, replace vice with scenes from the insider..or ali.

  • Stupid.

  • transformers collateral was also a masterpiece. i loved mv too. the reason why is taht i love cop shit and all that grittiness. mann is a God, hes 3 new movies taht hews directing are going to be up there with heat and collateral

  • As far as Michael Mann montages go, this one is one of the best I have ever seen. Nice work.

  • "Heat" is a masterpiece. "Collateral" is good, but nothing special. "Miami Vice" sucked balls. I hope Michael Mann can bounce back, and create another great film. Because he hasn't done anything great, since "The Insider." :(

  • absolutely right!

  • Not.

  • 5 stars, great
