  • No artist should be allowed to be played on the radio unless they know, and love Tom Waits. Genius, period

  • Was lucky enough to be there for this, about 6 rows back. Had resigned myself to never getting to see my favourite legend. Truly magnificent evening....

  • back in the 70's i was awake at 3am monday morning in my loft in carbon canyon canyon in malibu listening to far away radio stations and they played this song that just knocked me out. afterward they said it's Tom Waits' San Diego Serenade. nex day i went to the record store and got all his albums: closing time, the heart of saturday night, and nighthawks at the diner. all great. what a treat

  • not necessarily underrated, You and I and other people rate it pretty well.

  • A musicians musician...not underated ...just not mainstream..THANK GOD!

  • great..that s music..we love you Tom

  • Extraordinary.

  • Wow again.

  • For 10 months nobody answered you. Another good example of how ignored this great artist is! I'm joking! Real music lovers know Tom Waits, he is my most favorite music artist of the past 30 years. He is the type you take to bed with you when nobody else is there to warm up your sheets.

  • @fman707 oh good god amen. i listen to him in the bedroom right before i drift off to sleep. best thing in the world.

  • I love, it's my god of spirit

  • GENIUS!!!

  • I will not feel as though my life is complete until I have seen Tom in concert at least once.

  • How the fuck does he keep that vocal going??

    awsome!

  • Piękny utwór...

  • Fucking. Brilliant. This song gives me goose bumps

  • look at how hard he's pounding the rhythm out with his left leg. this is great.

  • he's a ham-bone with a wrist crinch. damned goode.

  • This is gospel....

  • I don't think he's underated amoung those who know anything about music. He'll never be popular with the pop loving masses and that's a good thing

  • was at this gig aswell

was 4th row back from front on right hand side

loved it, went through a lot of ****

to get to that gig but

still best day and night of my life

  • I love TOM WAITS, this song is MERAVIGLIOSA.

  • I have the impression Tom Waits will never die,...I'll be dead he will still be singing some good stuff...and I'm 17

  • well in wrist cutters a love story he plays God

  • Not God, he plays one of the People In Charge, and they are kind of like angels.

  • One of my favorite songs.

  • I'd should be there...but an asshole selfcalled friend talked too much...g°ddamnhim....

  • got to come on up to de house

  • Fan-bloody-tastic, no other words needed.

  • "the world is not my home, I'm a just passing through" - fantastic lyrics. Keep up the good work Mr Waits.

  • @chug16 lifted from an old gospel song. Fitting.

  • thank you, thank you, thank you. His music hits a spot that no other music can.

  • priceless

  • yknow .. I saw Tom in Vancouver and on the House where nobody lives.. I found myself crying ... a big tear came down my cheek during that song... there was a hush in the room .. brilliant.. especially his entrance with megaphone from the Lobby !!! the place went nutsooo.. my friend Greg looks behind him and there sitting

were ... Susan Sarandon,Timothy Robbins and Eddie Vedder

  • I know what ya mean about the tearing.Nothin to be embarassed about at all it's one of the most touching songs in history.

  • the COLOSSAL TOM WAITS!!...I saw him in 1999,3 hour show non-stop..the best ive ever seen....it should have been recorded...saw him twice in 2004 in Vancouver...$300 from scalpers...only $80 2nd night...FRANK'S WILD YEARS is my first and favourite of TOM..TRAIN SONG,LUCKY DAY,COLD COLD GROUND,COME ON UP TO THE HOUSE,PICTURE IN A FRAME..21 CD's..videos,books,concerts,all the time listening and watching...I have watched "BIG TIME" about 300 times....YEAH BABBBYYY YEAH!!!!

  • In my perception, Tom is not christian but certainly spiritual. In this song: "The world is not my home I'm just passing through" refers to many spirituality such as bouddhism and christianism. Coming on up to the house maybe is an invitation to find our true self wich is "oneness".

Anyway, Tom is just one of the greatest artist ever!!!!

  • I completely agree about Tom being spiritual. I also agree that he is one of the best artists to roam this dark earth!

  • Clicephas... I agree 'come up on to the house' speaks a spiritual metaphor regardless of any specific religious tradition, but the song certainly has a rough edged gospel feel to it... and Waits has given a sort of 'fallen' from the grace of God Christian feel to a variety of his songs... Jesus Gonna Be Here, Lord I Been Saved, Chocolate Jesus, and plenty more..

  • The second verse says it all;

All your crying don't do no good

You got to come on up to the house!

Come down off the cross we can use the wood

You got to come on up to the house!

  • is he ever particularly christian?

  • Amazing thank you for this.

  • Somebody tell Waits he needs to do a west coast tour, and I'll pay my left nut if I have to.

  • likewise.

  • goddamn Waits...never die.

  • I want this played at my funeral.

  • I did see him in 76 and before that. He used to play regularly at the Golden Bear in Huntington Beach, CA. There was a short line, paid 6 bucks then sat 10 feet away. I totally got it then and have seen him many time since only now I pay $75 bucks at ticketmasters and sit 50 yards away. Still, it's always worth it.

  • This is so incredible good! Oh, man I really wanna see him live... If one could have seen him in 76, it would be so the ultimate.

  • I have tickets for Mr. Waits in Atlanta and I can't believe it..This is so good...

  • WONDERFULL

  • God bless you. I can't believe this. I was at this gig. We flew over from Dublin to see it, wearing waistcoats and singing Tom Waits songs into an electrical air fan along the way. His first gig over here in 17 years and a disgustingly happy night as far as I'm concerned. Thank you thank you

  • I have to admit, this is my favorite song from this album...Its one of the songs ANYONE can like, the converted or not.
