Can you confirm the 24P setting? I don't think this camera has 24P. It does have a cinema mode which looks a bit like 24P but while in the cinema mode you can't adjust the AGC. Any help appreciated, thanks :)
I don't have this camera anymore. But it did have an option of frame rate selection and one of them was 24p. Now is that a true 24p or a forced 24p, I don't know, but it was at least a setting option in the camera.
For night shooting it's hard to beat an SLR like the Canon T2i for low light video. It has incredible low-light video capabilities. But clumsy to use for shooting video and huge files (MOV) making it less attractive to use if you're used to shooting with a camcorder.
But the S10 shoots very nice video. I prefer the look of the video to just about every other HD camcorder out there. Where was the location of these shots?
@roscodawg Its funny you mention that. I just bought a T2i to replace my s10. Not that it was a bad camera, I just wanted to have some more fun with lens selection and DoF that is not available or difficult to achieve with this.
The locations were Linden Hills and Edina in Minnesota. I didn't have much to do for testing that night, so I started near my place (Linden Hills) and drove to my friend's work in Edina. The shots in Edina were in the Southdale Mall parking lot and behind the Kinkos.
Sony XR520V has the best low light performance today, as they say. Its image stabilization is also better than Canon's. But Canon has a littel bit better sharpness in bright light. It also has more manual options and 24p and 30p. So, for advanced shooter Canon is still better, for tourist - Sony.
Hello, I was just wondering what camera you ended up going with? I saw the sonny footage, its pretty nice. the canon low light stuff was pretty comprable to my flip ultra..even though that camera is packed with options. I'm thinking flip ultra (keeping it) and just blasting my scenes with post shadows and blackness added later for night shots lol.

Thanks, I figured that out, since I bought the camera on Sunday, and I will do the same thing, using AGC as you have.

I actually don't have a camcorder right now lol. Waiting until April to get the Canon Hf s21

I've been leaning toward buying this camera but I'm worried about the low light performance. Some Sony XR520V tests I saw looked pretty nice.

if you want the sony dont get the 520v get the 500v because the only difference between the two is the 120gb hard drive and 240gb hard drive
and 120gb is Enough!

Yep. Isn't that pretty much the idea between the HF10 and HF11? Hardly-worth-it change in storage options?

No the HFS11 also has better stabilization and it supports rf remotes. :)
