.22 has same KILLING power as any other pistol caliber... if you compare the death rates of gunshot victims from .22 to 9mm or .45 acp its roughly the same at 20-25% . Main difference is STOPPING power or how quickly your body shuts down from being shot.

Proof that any gun will do, as long as you are willing to act. Although a .22 may be less than recommended for self defense, the fact she killed her assailant and stopped the attack proves that having a gun, ANY gun is better than none at all. I am impressed that the .22 seems to be more lethal than commonly given credit. So far, I've seen a couple of these videos where a 22 handgun successfully stopped and killed an assailant.

Some really good points. I can only hope that dc will pass a law allowing carry during everyday activities. The supreme court decision sealed the right inside the home but what good would that do you leaving work or a supermarket ect. Yup. Yet one more example that even a small caliber handgun can WORK in such a situation. I'm sure that in the VAST majority of cases (that are somewhat like this one) when the victim starts shooting, the ONLY thing in the mind of the perp is to try to get away. I feel sorry for the dead crook. Because of this woman, he won't be able to rob the 7-11 two streets down tomorrow night. Because of her, a coroner has to work an extra few overtime hours today. I've killed lots of Big things with the lowly .22LR and .17 pellet. A round through the eye and straight into the brain will drop a man as fast as a 30 cal to the chest. It sounds like she got some close center mass hits on a thin man. Good shooting, cool headed woman. May God's peace be on you.

I'd like more details on the amount of rounds fired. I think the little .22 LR is often given a bad rap simply because of it's small size.

@smttysmth02gt Totally! .22LR is a good round. People think because it's small, it's not going to do damage. But the velocity is brutal and all you have to do is hit a major organ. Drop a lung, put a few in in the center of mass, the heart, hit an artery and the person is a goner. Not to mention the splintering if it hits bone or something. It's like shrapnel.

Second, protecting your own ass is not protecting society, the same way that feeding yourself isn't considered "feeding the hungry." Most people who own guns have at least some training in their use, as they should, the same way most drivers aren't race car drivers, but are still responsible for their car, and they are still accountable for their actions. Yup. Yet one more example that even a small caliber handgun can WORK in such a situation. I'm sure that in the VAST majority of cases (that are somewhat like this one) when the victim starts shooting, the ONLY thing in the mind of the perp is to try to get away. And so small-caliber can work JUST AS WELL as large caliber.
Still, I would continue to remind EVERYONE that the FIRST defense in this kind of situation should be STRONGER DOORS that can't be kicked in or easily picked.
