Just stopping by to say that I'm really happy to see you respect the life of even little "Sticky" there. True some things have to be put into consideration with parasites, but either way. I'm happy to see your enthusiasm and level of respect.
....Kay I'm gonna go hippie somewhere else now lol.
It's a horsehair worm. They grow inside of crickets, then, when they're ready to burst out, they drive the cricket to water (the adults live in water) where it either drowns or dies from them bursting out of it. There's usually a wad of 3-4 of them that come out of one cricket. It's unusual that you found just that one. If not near water, they usually dry up and die within a few minutes of emergence. The whole thing is pretty sickening, actually. Poor cricket. Must be horrible to die like that.
I would pay one of the girls 50 cents to eat it. It just looks like a horse hair worm, I see them all the time, but its completely harmless... to humans.
Great Video! I've got a similar one "Grasshoppers parasitic hairworm." Ours was doing the same as yours, almost drying out, making it difficult to move, until we put it in water...
@juicymoose007 Horsehair worms only parasitize invertebrates such as insects. To complete their life cycle, they must infect large invertebrates that are relatively long-lived. Horsehair worms are harmless to vertebrates because they cannot parasitize people, livestock, pets, and birds. They also do not infect plants. If humans ingest the worms, they may encounter some mild discomfort of the intestinal tract but infection never occurs.
Many parasitic worms are covered in microscopic eggs. Don't know about this particular species, but I hope you washed your hands before eating anything. And had no open cuts. Also hope they aren't the kind that simply get absorbed into the skin.
@Karltheork Its a parasite for grasshoppers and other insects its harmless to humans, mostly just something cool to look at. Go eat some dirt it builds the imunne system lol
they live in bugs very very to almost none of time they would be inside a human if posible or animales so there safe to pic up but not eat.they live in mud pudles or damp spots befor entering a bug.smash grasshopers you will find some in them. they love grass hpers they sinse body heat. becuase there sintive.
hi i'm real confused i just don't understand how they find mates or even manage to get inside a grasshopper they seem to have no sense of direction what so ever can you help me pls?
It's a paracitic worm. they live in incects bodies and take controll of them. They like water. One of these took controll of a cricket, made it commit suicide by jumping in the water and then it came out. We are immune to these thankfully
Actually this parasite is too nimble to be a parasite of humans body. And this shit was able to see his hand. So this creature is something different from body parasite. I would`t touch it anyways.
How can you pick that thing up? I saw the same thing comming out of a cricket I stepped on. There were 2 worms which were larger then the cricket. Was told they are Horsehair worms. How can we believe that these alien creatures are harmless? Could Humans be thier next Victims? It seems they are found around the world. I won't step on a cricket again!!!!
They are harmless to humans because our immune systems would just kill it. Some researchers pick them up by the hundreds around the riversides. These horsehair worms only live inside bugs..not humans.
Yeah, you cuddle with the parasitic worm! You do that!
