  • This is one of the best live performances I have seen in a loooooong time. Chills.

  • God, I want to see him in concert, but I'm afraid I'd turn into a weeping mess upon hearing this.

  • beautiful voice wally :) cant wait till I get 2 go 2 one of ur concerts :)

  • Sting + Phil Collins... and you got an awesome Gotye

  • this is the only thing in my head lately. its intense. i loved it infinitely more when i saw this and him playing drums and singing at the same time. i'm a lady whos into the ladies......... but he is fucking beautiful. pretty sure i'd consider switching teams for him. just sayin'...

  • Fair does, Your special :)

  • I love Goyte and I know 'Somebody I used to know' is amazing and very popular, but I can never get past this song..it's my all time favorite Goyte song.

  • holy shit

  • Put this version on iTunes! Much better than the album version. If you like this song, check out some of V.A.S.T. Same kind of hypnotic groove. Thanks for sharing Australia, might go check him out in L.A.!

  • @lear60man

I definitely agree with you on the VAST recommendation.

  • I'm in love.

  • This guy is amazing. Consider me a new fan.

  • call me crazy but i like this live version better than the album version (both are amazing though).

  • Uwielbiam tą piosenkę !!!

  • That bass line sounds like a Cure song!?!

  • it's amazing

i love it very very much

  • Oh God I think I'm crying right now, this is so beautiful...

  • I actually love that man!

  • damn dude, gelijk ze zeggen like a boss :o

  • The man of my dreams. I've been waiting 24 years for you! Haha. Gotye = pure genius. I love everything he so cleverly invents! Every ounce is bliss ;D

  • sting much? he sure sounds like him

  • oh fuck, this is the new reincarnation of the not dead yet phil collins :D

  • he sings better live than on the record. he is amazing. I almost cry when I listen him. My boyfriend should be jealous;)

  • i prefer live version of this song

  • sexy, talented..i want to marry him! ;D

  • is it me or does he look like a equally awesome but less a "just ate a 3 week dead sheep's stomach" Bear Grylls?

  • singing like that & playing drums at the same time -> RESPECT

  • the crows looks euthanized w a few small exceptions

  • Sounds like Sting, looks like Froddo ...

  • @xxxxjacyxxxx ... tastes like chicken ...

  • So, anyone else who was at the Hobart concert last night think that he played this?

  • Mocarz

  • yes he is.....from Belgium.... Beautiful song and performance...

  • listening over and over to this song got me believe that men suffer more than women when it comes to love :-l

  • so sad didn't get to see him in perth :( love him. he has the greatest voic ever..

  • - just got a ticket to see him next March in Boston!!!

  • I'm sure Robert Smith would have loved to play this...

  • songs usually grow on me but not this one..I fell in love with it when the first syllable came out of his mouth..and the best part is I get to see him live in 4 sleeps!!!:D

  • He should definitely play this naked .. it would really enhance the whole experience ;D

  • I'd sell my soul just to see Gotye live

  • @Stoneman180190 me too and sold my soul to see Foo Fighters in Adelaide on Monday. This will be the 5th time I have seen them. I think Gotye will be my next soul selling concert obsession.

  • Goyte marry me please :)

  • And you, you fade But the memory remains the same And I, I can’t change And I think that living with your memory Is slowly driving me insane You are perfect but you’re empty And it gets so lonely in my mind Cos your image in my memory’s The only shred of you that’s left behind You were real but then you left me And that’s the part I can’t accept So I’ll keep on living with your memory Because it’s all that I’ve got left love it!!
  • Love his eyes when he gets to 0.22 very concentrated and in the groove

  • as for me, all his tunes should sound like this one. he is far away more skilled than Sting and Bono combined

  • just discovered 'somebody..'

    and now this..

he is sweeping me of my feet <3

  • Can someone please tell me where i can buy this song i'm tearing my hair out! Gotta have it! C'mon! Keep on Keeping on Gotye Yeah! x

  • This is a great song, but it's funny how there's no one with him on stage. Everything is pre-recorded except for the drums. That's sorta crappy for a live performance... still great though.

  • @iStevie, that's the way Wally makes his music - samples and recordings, all put together with his Mac basically! He's essentially a solo artist, so belongs alone on stage. I urge you to try and see him live, it's really an amazing experience!

  • This is amazing.

  • "Hello, are you superman?"

    :)

  • Baaad he sounds like sting! .. The more of his music I listen to the more i dig it :)

  • Comment removed

  • the more I listen the more he sounds like STING.........he is quite something!

  • a genius from Belgium? Impossible!

  • The crowd is going wild.....

  • @guitj007 i think they were all hypnotized

  • perfect!

  • i love this more than the album version

  • danm good sound!!

  • you beautiful, drum-playing, pixie-looking man. I LOVE YOU!!!

  • @nancypantsization Isn't he gorgeous! I thought the same thing when his ears stick out of his hair, there's something about his face, such a pixie ♥

  • It's so stupid this artist is not known in my country, the Netherlands. He's great!

  • @ArinkaLinders What do you mean not known in The Netherlands. On 5 August 2011 was "Sombody That I Used To Know" the 3FM Megahit. the same song is 11 weeks in a row in the Itunes Top 30 on Qmusic, and from the 11 weeks 5 on the first place. and on 24 september 2011 the song was on first place in the Mega Top 50 from 3FM, a very representative hitlist in the Netherlands. and BTW Qmusic wil play the song 1 time a day minimum.

  • @PriteOfTheDawn I mean that Gotye is not very known. I never heard of him until last week and was taken instantly.

  • @PriteOfTheDawn but maybe I'm a zombie and this is the evidence... :D

  • I love this artist !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • omg, gotye is quite handsome in this vid. :)

  • His older stuff is soooooooooooooooooo much better, I wish Ashton Kutcher never tweeted "Somebody I Used to Know"

  • Dude's got skills.

I can barely even talk when I drum, let alone sing XD

  • I'm from Brazil and I'm glad I've heard about this genius. Thanks to my friends from Australia.

  • @babifromsouth Part of the trippy sound and success of Somebody that I used to know was the loop of the sampled song Seville by Luiz Bonfa from Brazil, very cool!!

  • Thats Talent!!

  • OMG, amazing, so many sounds, such a harmony going from this, enchanting.. And his voice which I'm already in love with, deep, true, giving me shivers. This guy itself feels easy to fall in love with, too. Creative, true, sensitive.

  • this man will be remembered for years to come and will also have a very bright music career

  • A quick stop by the like button, then its straight to favourites.

  • Wow, he is really the source of all this ???? WOW !!!!

  • I'm completely smitten!!

  • It is just me or does Wally look like James McAvoy

  • Take a dash of Sting, a pinch of Peter Gabriel and a touch of Phil Collins and you get Gotye

  • @Stoneman180190 I thought Sting aswell instantly, and yeah, you're right, the others are there too

  • You're real cute - oh yeah, so is Gotye.

  • ......and I think that living with your memory is slowly driving me insane......!!!!!

  • This guy is Sting's illegitimate son.

  • Now that is a true musician ...... love his music , so unique and his voice is amazing , just as good live ...............

  • i feel like he sounds like peter gabriel too, and phil collins/steve winwood

i just love gotye. his voice, and writing...they are so awesome. very original

  • great lyrics....

  • @amyK007 don't forget Kram (another Aussie) from Spiderbait - drumming his guts out and singing perfectly every time! I don't know how either of them do it..

  • @StaticTremor I can understand why it seems more impressive to a lot of people, but it's not that much more complicated than playing guitar and singing. Depending on what kind of part you're playing, of course (on either instrument).

  • jizztastic

  • 2 people are dead inside

  • definetly got a sting sound , great song but i dont like sting

  • I personally like this version better than the album version :D

  • @bassistfromhell94 Right on! I heard this version before the album version. I nearly cried when I heard the album version. I mean it's good, but this live version is PERFECT!

  • @chriss62 Same here! This live version has more power to it

  • Awesome song, amazing voice.. but that mosh pit is just far too hectic.

  • He reminds me a little of "The Time Bandits"

  • this is incredible

  • i am in love

  • love it! especially when thanks for your time is cut over the top! this guy has some serious skill and genius!

  • Wally 4 President. Of the World.

  • such a long song...got me enjoying EVERY second of it.+++++++

  • Classic, check out 1:50, everyone looks like they're at school assembly, and that one chick must be pinging off her melon lol

  • @camfay77 either that...or shes just enjoying some kickass music

  • you have no idea what kind of a chance you present. stop with this bad promo shit. go go go go

  • as if to say you are the shit. the interpol, the yesayer, the aussie kylie.

  • Like the show... and love the music... lyrics to die for!

  • Phil Collins? Who's Phil Collins? Who needs him anyway? Gotye is God. :-)

  • Drumming AND singing? Jesus, I can't even talk on the phone and make coffee at the same time....this guy's a genius.

  • I LOVE how he blends a sample from thanks for your time in this version!

  • man i love this guy i first seen this clip on abc and fell in love with it instantly how original is this track! incredible incredible brilliant lyrics and skills!

  • this song is just too good.

  • Ace tune! <3

  • i think i prefer this live to the album version

  • @theoUEA I agree!!

  • at 2:10ish what does he say?? I swear I heard something that wasn't exactly Triple J material..

    awesome song though

  • The lyrics are "though the future is the cost" if that's the bit you were unsure about. :)

I agree, and it's awesome that this live version is sung quite differently but still works!

  • i fell in love with this song the first time i heard gotye play live for aus music month on triple j. still sends chills down my spine everytime i hear it. its amazing, the vocals, the haunting sounds in between and his incredible drumming. <3

  • Lyrical and musical genius. I love it!

His voice does sound a lot like Sting in this track! Not sure about Peter Gabriel though - PG's voice is more husky-smokey not silky-smokey...

  • Can never Have to Many skillful Drummers in the world :D

  • Gotye, I am a fan!

When will you finaly come to belgium? =D

  • Ok, said his voice reminds me of Peter Gabriel, but now also Sting. Very nice voice...haunting. Smoky. Great songs.

  • is this one of his songs? what album is it on?

  • great musician, the music its so hiiiiiiiiiii

  • So Dope.

  • aussie pride

  • He was born in Bruges :P

  • Aussie/Belgian pride... ! ;-)

  • @aussie4life93 round world last time i checked

  • @aussie4life93 Belgian-Aussie pride if I may ... Proud to be Belgian!

  • @aussie4life93 But he is born in Belgium ;D

  • @drummerjen still lived in aus for majority of his life and still choose to live here now= Australian,

  • @drummerjen yes, but grew up in Australia and calls Australia home. He topped the charts in Belgium and the Netherlands.

  • @aussie4life93

    He's belgian originally :)

  • @aussie4life93 Haha lol he is no aussie he was born in belguim. but al the same you "can be proud" he lives in Australia

  • @aussie4life93 Dude, we're such a small country, don't take away the few good artists we've got!

  • Gotye _ boardface

  • whats the name of the band that he plays in??

  • He's not in a bad, I don't think. he does the entire proformance by he, himself, and him.

    And he calls it.... "Gotye".

    Great music, huh?

    :)

  • Yes, Wally is member of a band: The Basics. He's touring now through Australia with his band. I think Gotye is currently 'on hold'; unfortunately no gigs are planned in the near future. At least according to his website...

  • Their stuff is pretty good too actually..though i really like his solo stuff; but your right..no gigs planned

  • indeed.. very good music..love it

  • The Basics, but they're less famous than Gotye/Wouter/Gauthier himself

  • Melbourne indie-pop band The Basics

    there very good

  • He's coming to live in Belgium

    Hell yeah!! =D

  • Yes, already in 2010 if I'm right! Sth to look forward to...

  • Nice one.

  • Astonishing! Do the rounds again Gotye! I want to see you live!

  • fucking hell this guy is truely amazing...what songs!

  • Extremely moving!!!!!

  • he does this all himself? thats amazing!! he is very good!

  • great artist...its awesome how he has many different ways of playing each of his songs

  • amazing!!

  • If you're from Europe like me.. you not see Auzzie music... then you see a belgian musician who lives in Australie. That's because you can put him in line with a lot a great belgium artists. (amazing how many talented artist come from belgium one way or another). But if you life in Australie.. I would see him as an Auzzie probably. Hahaha.. the guy can be both I think.

  • Saw Gotye Monday night in london.... MORE AMAZING AUSSIE MUSIC! The guy is soooooo talented it is scary and what's better he just seems to get into it and enjoy it!!

OH and BTW Pharlap... you should probably speak to the police.

  • To dd4677,

"OH and BTW Pharlap... you should probably speak to the police."

    LMAO

  • He has a real Phil Collins thing going on I reckon. Not bad tho!

  • How come he is so underrated?

  • Underrated? I don't know anyone who's heard his music and not been impressed. Different tastes also need to be taken into account - I can't stand Interpol yet friends love them.

  • not under rated. its just that people have no idea of real skill, they are used to that sh*t that gets pumped out on commercial radio

  • JTV is such a great show australians are soo lucky to have it . perfect for a saturday morning ! Gotye is an underrated genius.

  • My favourite Gotye song by far. Thanks so much for uploading this.
