  • Very ill... A cage for freedom.

  • I love the message here. But...I can't help but wonder what you do when you cut one in that suit?

  • So what you rightly witness are the uncoverted goats, not the sheep.

It's an old trick. The easiest way to make a group look bad is to pose as one of them and act contrary to what they do. The people of God have had countless such attacks.

The Vatican is the best example. Completely contrary to biblical Christianity. This does great damage to the image of the true sheep.

Feel free to ask any clarifying questions, I'll be happy to answer them.

  • @allM3inM3Christ No, the trick comes from your group. It's called the "No true Scotsman fallacy." When you guys want to puff yourselves up to look bigger and more influential, you include Catholics and even Jews. When a Christian does something embarrassing, suddenly he or she is "not a true Christian." The Catholic Church would say that evangelicals are contrary to biblical Chistianity. The Orthodox church would say you're both wrong. How do we determine who is "right."

  • Why is religion so concerned about controlling sex? It's a serious question.

  • @Threshingfloor814 (Christianity isn't supposed to be religious btw.) Love... is the simple answer. Becoming one flesh as it was in the beginning. That you would restrain your desires for the context of marriage because you want to save yourself for your spouse and vis versa. Also because children learn from their parents about relationships and what to look for in their future spouse. It makes sense medically, mentally, emotionally, and economically. There's good reason behind it.

  • @Deneith I might agree with you about responsible behavior in a relationship, but there's nothing exclusive to Christianity there. The problem is, study after study shows that Christians (mainline Protestants/Catholics and Evangelicals) show no lower rate of divorce, premarital sex than do non-believers. Why is this? Almost 20% of all women who have abortions identify themselves as "born again Christians." So my question is, why is your religion so ineffective at enforcing its own morality?

  • @Threshingfloor814 I know this statistic. But do you know?: once again, it's not about the DOGMA. It's an insult to Christians when 'religious' people do stupid things in the name of Christ and that proceeds us as our reputation. This is what seperates a truly Christian relationship from non-Christians or 'religious' people in the surveys: Love = God 1st, Family 2nd, Me Last. Religious people need to read 1 Corinthians 13 to know that their dogma is fruitless. It may be hard for you to grasp it

  • Where did you get this statistic? Did you research it yourself and keep in-mind the possible flaws coming with every piece of evidence? Ie: those who would identify themselves as Christians in the surveys (which are easily affected by morality-bias) because they were raised that way? Does correlation = causation? It's part of the scientific method; don't you question results? Neither are we to accept God's Word without question, but to think.

  • @Deneith First of all, you guys are trying to make the correlation/causality claim by saying that Christianity changes you or transforms you. So the burden is on you to demonstratre this. There are several studies:

focusing on divorce, a study from the Barna Research Group showed that the divorced adult population stands at roughly 25%, 27% of Born Again Christians are divorced while the figure is at 21% for Agnostics and Atheists. I'm not claiming that being an "atheist" will increase contd

  • @Deneith your chances of a successful marriage. Unfortunately, Christians are indeed making this claim about their own faith and when they find out that the statistics don't bear this out, they run and hide behind "No True Scotsman." I could go on with violent crime and teen pregnancy. But the point remains the same. If your faith were effective at controlling "immoral" behavior, wouldn't we see a drastically lower rate of all these statistics among Christians? Why don't we?

  • @Deneith You're still in "No True Scotsman" zone. I have no way of determining who is or isn't a "real" Christian.

What would you define as "stupid" things? Trying to take rights away from homosexuals? Teaching children pseudoscience? Or how about in Nigeria where Christians ministers are extorting families by threatening to call their children "witches" and have the villagers kill them. How "stupid" does Christianity have to get before you would declare someone not a Christian?

  • @Threshingfloor814 I was speaking of the questionaire that is responsible for most marriage surveys: ie Check one in the Religion Box. I wasn't talking about discrediting someone's faith when they screw-up. You are putting all Christians in a box by generalizing that we all use the "No True Scotsman" barrier for stupid Christians. You can't clump us.There are morons and geniuses in every group. To answer your question: Calling someone stupid because of what they believe- now that's stupid.

  • @Threshingfloor814 many of God's commands are for the good of his people. There are to be no sexual relations outside of marriage because he saw that is the best thing. I definitely know from experience, that a non-committed sexual relationship is a really destructive thing. You bond completely with a person, become one, & then try to rip yourself apart. This separation doesn't happen w/o significant damage to body and soul of either or both people.

  • @allM3inM3Christ Then why do members of your faith have rates of divorce, premarital sex and abortion at the same rate as those who identify themselves as non-believers? In some studies, even higher? Either your religion is totally ineffective, or it's designed to make people feel that they are in a constant state of guilt. They're "sick" and your church gives them the "cure."

  • @Threshingfloor814 ya that can be confusing, that. What you see in America on the surface may seem like Christianity, because people call themselves Christians. But actually it's not. It's a counterfeit Christianity. Americans by & large are cultural Christians, not genuinely converted Christians. The difference between a Christian & non-Christian is: Christians desire from their hearts to please God, while non-Christians may only feel pressure to be "moral" but don't want it from their hearts.

  • @allM3inM3Christ Please look up the "No true Scotsman fallacy." When someone tells me they are a Christian, I take them at their word. Your heart pumps blood. Decision making and judgement come from the brain.

If you did things to please your God according to the Bible, you would most likely end up in jail.

  • @Threshingfloor814 Please! Please tell me, that as an intelligent individual, you are not making the error of taking a text out of context. It goes with all historical doccuments; you must know the purpose and address of the text in order to understand what's it's saying. As for the Bible, you must also be willing and driven (as part of the God-human relationship) to both discern what it is trying to say and accept it teachings. It's tough; I've been infuriated by some of the lonely verses Cont.

  • that teach us women are underlings. But instead of blowing such jargon off, I researched it. I've resurfaced with a far greater understanding than if I were to just accept it dumbly word-for-word or dismiss it as a religious excuse to mistreat women. Looking at the CONTEXT: the history and culture of the early church, the address of Paul and reading the WHOLE book, I found it has clearly restated that women and men are equal. It's there from the symbol of creationism to how Christ treated women.

  • @Threshingfloor814 again, God literally changes your heart when he saves you, and you no longer feel an unwanted outside pressure to conform to a moral standard. A Christian loves the law of God.

Jesus actually says that "by their fruits you will know them". This means you can generally tell who Christians are by the way they speak and behave, because this provides a shallow glimpse into their hearts. The heart is the key here.

  • Where can I buy one of these?

  • This guy is going to tear down the self-esteem of all teenagers with a freaking war axe if any crazy christian parents get a hold of this.

Please.............PLEASE............someone say this is satire. Please.......for the love of......anything but God. XD

  • @kakashidemon321 It's a joooooke. They're talking about "Misconceptions of the faith". This is one of them, that there has to be a "bubble of protection" around a dating man.

  • oh so people can cuss and swear in here but i got too personal......otay

  • Wow. Just...wow.

  • Driscoll loves Jesus This you can tell I do not personally know the man so I therefore am clarifying I could be off base 100% His style although different is effective & it works, especially for being in the seattle scene. The only thing is: He seems arrogant. In this video, get a shot for youtube, really? Is he really talking about how popular his church is. Oh no other church is doing this, listen to how great we are, again keep preaching the gospel of Jesus, but less of how great ur church is

  • @spud1388 I didn't catch any of that watching the clip or any of Pastor Driscoll's sermons. When he said there's no other mega-church doing the bubble-suit thing, it's more of a joke about how impractical and embarrassing that is; it won't catch on. That wasn't arrogance, that was self-deprecation/ humor. And besides that, while it would be arrogant to boast about one's church AT OTHERS' EXPENSE, there is biblical room for pride in one's congregation, as Paul prided himself on several churches.

  • @spud1388 Driscoll n Jesus sittin in a tree k..i..s..s..i.. sorry forgot Jesus and Driscoll dont believe in dating or homosexuality .

  • if I had that suit i would hotbox it :D

  • I would LOVE a suit like that

    XD

  • ROFL I wish I lived in Seattle....

  • Me too! goodness. hahaha.

  • me too! we all want to live there

  • wow hes getting fat!

  • To billiefan2000... no joke, have you ever heard a sermon by mark? Mark lists the name of Jesus more than any pastor I've EVER heard before. He ALWAYS brings it full circle to Jesus, whatever he's talking about. He could care less about what you say about him, as long as it gets you to talk about Jesus.

  • Amen! The reason i love marks teaching is its SOOOO Christ centred no matter what he's talking about he'll bring it back to Christ forgiving our sins by dying on the cross!

  • Comment removed

  • i need suit like that

  • ive been watching a lot of the videos and its not my 'style' of church if you will, but i certainly dont think its a bad thing, he says a lot of good stuff, matter of fact, the only thing i wish he'd change to give him abit more credibility is to lose the necklace, but thaz only my opinion its not Gospel ; )

  • Billiefan, holy smokes, have you ever even LISTENED to any Driscoll sermons!? Repentence is ALL this dude talks about!!! And he's CONSTANTLY connecting the dots throughout the Bible toward Christ. It seems you may be reading/listening to more bad press about him than listening to him and forming your own conclusions. This guy is bringing all he's got to Jesus, without the sicky-fake facade that so many preachers put on. I'm thankful for his ministry and for MHC. Why not PRAY for him?

  • There's nothing wrong with it. It is stupid as all get out though.

  • its the Christian condom! Only these rubbers are holy.

  • Take a look at what the culture is into. Mars Hill approaches it from a biblical perspective.

  • very young (in age) congregation so it's inevitable. It's good.

  • I would humbly ask you, as a Christian brother, to repent of your religious pride and get over yourself.

  • so you are saying, it should repent of having the gift of discernment

  • MD mentions Jesus more than he does sex.
