the first song is CHAIYA CHAIYA... it was first produced for a Bollywood movie named DIL SE then it made it to West End in London then Broadway... then made it to Hollywood in INSIDE MAN..
i had the privilege to see this live and the two live drummers on the top of the stage on both corners were awesome the energy they created was amazing . bombay dreams would be half the fun without them.
I saw this as a 10th birthday present on the day that all the Iraq War protests were going on in London. The soundtrack and sights are still etched on my mind and heart.
i dunn think anyone can capture essence of bombay dreams or rather bollywood in a stage show. ITs a good attempt but as an indian i do not see bollywood in it. Its mostly rehearsed dance steps.
its Zaf from Spooks! and he can sing! His voice when they sing the 'How many Stars' song is so powerful when he sings the part "How many tides have to turn, before you turn my way...."
I really like his voice...and its funny how his accent still comes through, even though usually you don't notice an accent when someone sings really..its nice though
In WestEnd.. thats in UK you can lipsync (I guess, its still has its limitations.. obviously you are not suppose to lipsync that entire musical..) In Bombay Dreams I think they only lipsynced only for Chayya Chayya song...
Thanks for posting! I saw this in NY... in which I thought the show was a spectacle - not the greatest piece of theater but I felt it brought back a sense, and awareness of foreign culture back to Broadway since AIDA had closed.
It is from London. And not sure whether its going to be staged again. May be after LOTR is brought down... as ARR's has scored for the LOTR musical as well.
I saw this show in London about 4 years ago. It was by far the best musical i have ever seen ( and i have seen a few), i just can't believe the show only lasted for 12 months. I would so mush love to see it again.
i have a question...i saw this a few years ago in NYC and i already knew the song 'The Journey Home'....was it written for this show? or was it just put in?
is it just me or was the broadway version different from the UK? because i got the cd right after i saw the show and some of the songs were different...?
Ummm, even I couldn't remember where I got it from .... and I really didn't expect this much of comment to be posted for this video.. and I have neglected it, totally...
Hey thanks I saw this in London when it first came on and thought it was brilliant. In fact I went and saw it again the next year too. You brought back lovely memories. Thanks.
Yes I know I actually have the Making of DVD. I am waiting for the thing to make it to DVD trust me :) But thanks for the heads up on the DVD. Not many would have bothered sharing the info. Cheers.
wow the london cast wasn't bad! Actually I think a few of them are on the New York cast. Didn't really like Akash but he wasn't horrible. neway Great show so thnx for uploading!!!
Hey thanks for uploading this!!! :) Very happy now that I've finally seen how Bombay Dreams actually looked like in London. There was talk of it coming to Singapore after Phantom but I've not heard anything anymore... Hopefully they're still thinking of doing it! It sounds and looks amazing!
Saw a production of this in Charlotte, NC in 2006..Loved it.
