  • 2012 Broadway Revival of Evita starring Idinal Menzel - What are we waiting for?

  • Thumbs up for Orishigurl for taping it. amazing sound. Idina is sooo pretty!

  • IDOLA!

  • I am sorry, but she does an EXCELLENT job singing this! I really like it! Has emotion behind it!

  • I love Idina, but I will admit this song is not best suited for her.

  • So I saw someone post this and caption it, "The Patti Lupone of our generation."

    How about no.

Like, I love Idina, but in Wicked. Her voice is NOT suited for this song at ALL.

  • @ibnerd151 I completely agree!

  • @ibnerd151 I agree. She is so different from Patti Lupone. Not to mention that it is much to earlier to be nominating the "new" Patti Lupone, who is still mostly in her prime (whether that's for good or for bad).

  • Hmm. Stick to Wicked.

  • wow theres one chick who's really freakin excited to see idina

  • I would have brought it down a few steps for her, but I still like that she's sung this song :)

  • Idina Menzel is one of the very best stage performers and singers of this generation. I have seen her sing with some pretty big names and she shines! Everyone has personal taste, but you don't have to rag on her if she is not your taste.

  • sheesh, to all the Idina haters, why don't YOU try making it into an ANDREW LLOYD WEBBER CONCERT!!!! she has to be great if she was in this concert. IDINA ROX!!!!

  • Woof

  • she has sexy broad shoulders

  • I wasnt thinking and I scrolled back up and I thought this was Lea Michele lol

  • slap a blonde wig on her, and she is PERFECT to play EVITA!!!!!

  • Who told her she's allowed to sing this song?? Shut up Idina.

  • Comment removed

  • @imreadyformycloseup SHE DOESN'T NEED TO ASK ANYONE TO SING THIS DAMN SONG YOU STUPID PRICK...... SO BACK OFF! SHE WAS ASKED TO SING THIS SONG AND ANDREW LLOYD WEBBER'S BIRTHDAY IN LONDON A FEW YEARS BACK. SO LIKE I SAID BACK OFF!

  • Vile.

  • does she have shoes on.. lol. Love you idina!

  • ummmm Broadway Revival.

  • omg. wonderful!

  • Ew.

  • @ValtronW HOW IS THIS EW? DO YOU KNOW WHO SHE IS?????? you obviously have no taste in music what so ever

  • @ValtronW woah woah WOAH! Give me your address so I CAN SLAP SOME FREAKING SENSE INTO YOU!

  • @ShellTard Christ, have you even heard this song performed by anyone else?

    She's really nasally.

  • @ValtronW I have. I stand by my first comment. Thanks!

  • omg she should soo play eva in the remake!

  • Favourited

  • She is so beautiful<3

  • All the hatred need to shut up, she has an amazing voice, and everyone saying bad things about her need to stop and think, because their voice is probably not very good!

  • I love her usually, but I think that here her voice is too high and too forced. I prefer Patti Lupone.

  • @iloveidinamenzel1 I love were your coming from here and I'm not hattin I love love love her and I find it awesome that your sticking up for her I do now don't take this wrong way but her eyes are green please don't hate me... I just wanted to say and its not fair some of the coments that are left here it's just awful but that's the price that some one like idina must pay there will always be a hater no mater who u are so let them talk cus she'll always have her real fans

  • @defying11gravity19 what did you say about video camera's?

  • There are 29 pathetic people who have viewed this video I'm sorry to state the obvious

  • @defying11gravity19 HEY GIRL YOU KNOW I HAVE TO LOOK OUT FOR IDINA ! WHAT IS WITH ALL THE DISLIKES WTF???!!!!!!!

  • @lexomil17 O_o WHAT.

  • @lexomil17 but her voice fits with her charracters

  • @lexomil17 She has an amazing voice!!!!! ur just a hater!

  • @lexomil17 Anyone who has heard this song previously knows that she sings it very well. She's a very talented woman and no offence but I'm sure she could out sing you any day.

  • it's people like idina menzel that make me truly believe in God. only a loving God would bless this bleak, dismal world with such an angel. brava, diva!

  • @najae808 wow!

  • @Clarnits0409 I just feel like I need to protect her. I don't have any shame in telling hatters to SHUT THE FUCK UP when it comes to Idina!

  • @Clarinets0409 what are you you talking about we don't have lives we sit here and how stupid and dumb people are for dissing Idina which breaks my heart into little splinters. I mean shit seeing her cry in Glee , Rent, and Ask the Dust was bad enough but if she were to read some of the crude things on here I can't only imagine how many tears could fall out of those beautiful brown eyes. That would be so devastating I would want to shoot someone . Just her voice alone makes me want to cry.

  • Seriously... If you don't have anything nice to say... don't say it at all...

  • I AM A BIG FAN OF HER'S AND I DON'T SEE ANYTHING WRONG WITH VIDEO/ SONG SO ALL YOU BASHERS BACK THE FUCK OFF! SHE IS PERFECT IN EVERY WAY AND YOU ALL NEED TO SHUT THE HELL UP SHE DOES HAVE FEELINGS YOU KNOW, AND IF I SEE ONE MORE INSULT I WILL SCREAM. SO PLEASE DO YOURSELVES A FAVOR AND GET A FUCKING LIFE AND LEAVE HER ALONE IF YOU CAN'T SAY ANYTHING NICE!!!!!!!!!!

  • @iloveidinamenzel1 Nice Jamie!! I just don't understand why people look up videos of her just to say all these horrible things about her?!?!?!?!?! I've met her twice and she is such a sweetheart. I just hope she never sees some of these comments....

  • @Clarinetist0409 I don't know Sarah Bearh people suck! i know what you mean, remember I met her too and she is a total sweetheart and some of these comments would make her cry then I would really have to kill someone

  • @iloveidinamenzel1 Oh I know.... And why take the time to look her videos up if you don't like her?! Some people just don't have a life...

  • @Clarinetist0409 Yeah! Seriously... People don't have a life.

  • I better stop I am really going to get pissed off!

  • @iloveidinamenzel1 Thanks Jamie for saying that! :D (It's Jenn, btw)

  • Seriously STOP RAGGING HER MY GOD! She sings this song beautifully! THERE is nothing wrong with it. So back off!

  • why is she singing it so high

  • @RyanMonray she is a Broadway Star and that's what they do and that is her normal range DUH!

  • holy shit, do you hear those people screaming? my god.

of course i can understand why, but damn.

  • @butchymcfabulous I would be screaming much more. Actually... I'd have died and gone to heaven.

  • Idina :')

  • Wow... Idina would make an amazing Evita... Haha ;D

  • @IVH93 I agree BUT all her fans would have to murder Andrew Lloyd Webber for killing her off at the end

  • I think Idina would have made the perfect Ava Peron. I love Madonna in that movie simply because of this song but in my opinion Idina did a marvelous job

  • The problem here is that Idina tried to sing like other singers and in other tone (i supose) ...the Menzel´s style is special, so Idina dont try to copy others....YOU ARE UNIQUE :)

  • This was good, and I love Idina Menzel, but I wish she had done it in a little less of a pop-y type style - I dont think it really fit the song. It was really good; I just expected more from Idina I guess.

  • :O

  • I normally love Idina, but she didn't do well with this song. :/

  • @usiylover2 you need hearing aids

  • @usiylover2 Really?...

  • I love her acting in this piece. Her eyes are just as pitch-perfect as her voice...

  • @FabianWilliam Well said

  • Her 'I love you' is the best thing ever. She's so wonderful...

  • she always looks so excited to sing!

  • Comment removed

  • If you like her voice that's all that matters. Who cares how someone else sang it. If you like it you like it. The fact that someone sang it differently and it sounded better to YOU shouldn't change the fact that Idina's voice is amazing!

  • Idina has more talent in her left foot than most of you do in your entire bodies, stop ragging on her.

  • @TheHavanaluv I agree!

  • She sounds like a frightened little girl. I think she's ridiculously talented, but she just doesn't have the deeper diaphragm belting for Eva. She has too much of a nasal pop sound. Don't get all anal and think I'm dissing of Idina; she's lovely. I just don't think she's right for the part. Considering how hard of a role it is to sing, it's understandable.

  • I have to say that I did not enyoy her interpretation of that beautiful song!!!

  • amazing! so emotional!

  • she looks amazing at 3:53 llike she really is evita

  • @holyfrickidc. We share the same sentiments.

  • i love her...but the older she gets...live isnt suiting her...mainly bc her asthma is getting bad anough that she cant hold notes for too long...and she cuts off so fast...and forget dancing while singing. she just cant do it live anymore...i still love her...and she will ALWAYS be the original elpheba...but shes awesome when recorded...not live.

  • idina is very good, but she isnt that amazing in wicked, and the girl who keeps fucking screaming stfu shyt!

  • @NYCroxmysocks ARE YOU FUCKING KIDDING ME?

  • @iloveidinamenzel1 she really isnt, no im not fucking kiding you

  • She's so perfect! I love her so much!

  • @holyfrickidc Idk what your problem is against Idina, but she can EASILY go up against Patti Lupone AND Julie Covington!! I do agree that Broadway as a WHOLE was very different back then, and there were plenty of incredibly talented singers then, too, but that is no reason to not appreciate the talent presently displayed there, such as Idina Menzel herself, Kristin Chenoweth, Eden Espinosa, Laura Belle Bundy, Laura Michelle Kelly, and countless others. YouTube some of their performance to see.

  • @epacmo1807 agreed.

  • I love her facial expressions :D

  • Broadway isn't what it used to be. We can't compare these modern singers to the singers of the earlier decades. They're too different in regards to technique and sound. Everyone today appreciates the lack of artistry and technical approach these singers display. And it's sad. You can't compare this performance to Patti Lupone's or Julie Covington, and it's a crime to do so. A Tony doesn't constitute legacy.

I just don't understand why everyone wants to fix something that was never broken.

  • she sucks

  • @kyliefan22

Wow. Are you serious? Idina Menzel is amazing! Have you ever seen any of her other performances? She's just as good (if not better) than Patti LuPone, Bette Midler, Barbra Streisand, and so many broadway legend. Yeah, this wasn't her best performance, but I went to a concert and was absolutely blown away.

  • @KathleenMD98 I couldn't agree more!! I also went to one of her concerts, and was crying from how powerful her voice and performance was. True, this song isn't really for her voice type, but there is no doubt that Idina is absolutely fantastic, stunning, splendid, amazing, angelic, and any other positive adjective you want to use, including humble and down-to-earth. :)

  • Omg I think she would look amazing as Evita. Actually, I think she could actually be a decent Evita; probably a better Evita than Elphaba (just saying)

  • So, when I first saw this performance I was was a little :-/ however, after listening to it a few more times, I find it to be one of my favorite renditions of the song. There is a naturally raw sound to Idina's voice in this segment. Unlike the other fabulous performers of this song (i.e. Elaine Paige) the "gravel-y" sound in Idina's voice brings a refreshing twist to such an icon as EVITA. So... I would love to see her in a revival!

  • @zram2008

I completely agree! At first, I just thought, "Eh, it wasn't her best performance', and while I think she has still done better than this before, I think she did a great job putting her own twist on it. Same thing with her singing "Don't Rain on My Parade" at the Kennedy Center. I went to a concert of hers in Cincinnati, and was amazed at such an amazing live performer she is (:

  • Duh she nervous she's on Hyde park v

  • The one thing I hate about live performances; all the ridiculous screaming from the fans. What a relief when they finally STFU.

  • why does it sound like a falsetto voice in the beginning

  • She looks kinda nervous.

  • she is so amazing you can deff tell she actually cares about her fans and her voice is AMAZING!!

  • so lucky

you had like the best seat

    :)

  • stop hating on her! this is a video that you choose to watch..if you dont like it dont watch it. simple as that. i love her to death no matter what she sings and i always will<33

  • I'm sorry...I just don't see why this woman has so many fans. She's a decent singer, but no better than average.

  • @ieatglue44 are u serious?? oh god! i never believed i woudl ever hear something like this! this woman is a LEGEND!!! have you watched RENT or Wicked??

  • @mconstanta Why, yes. Yes. I have. Multiple times. For both. And segments from the Chess concert. And many other of her performances...and I'm still completely unimpressed.

  • @ieatglue44 really? :// she is a legend in broadway, everyone says so. and she won a Tony award something that's not easy to achieve. these are facts! if you don't see her talent..oh welll noth i can do about it;p

  • Looking back on this, wow I dunno.

Admittedly this was not her best performance...started off a bit shaky and thin. But I was there and I remember being swept up in the emotion of it all...you can see it on her eyes. Seeing it again now 2 years later and after more vocal training, I really wonder if the emotion of the song really got a bit too much for her, because it becomes much more difficult to sing if you are overly emotional, and she seemed really like, "there" you know?

    Just a thought...

  • Um, could everyone please stop hating on Idina? So what if you don't like it, she's still legend.

  • I think part of this performance not hitting completely right is the way it was recorded. Idina is a better studio singer than a live singer. Even on Broadway she misses a note here and there. Overall, though, her performance here was amazing. Her voice just sounds so different singing it when compared to all the other singers who have sung it before her.

  • @Eyesiq i don't think that's really true. hear her performance with Josh Groban "Awake" or her singing no day but today on the PBS concert..or many many others! she is one of the greatest live performers! but she was a bit too nervous for this..that's all that went wrong i think.

  • Idina is fine, but this song is not right for her. Try listeing Sarah Brightman performing this song.

  • @kingromeraso I don't like hearing Sarah Brightman performing broadway songs, her voice is so operatic that it seems like she's trying to cage a tiger when she sings songs that aren't as technically demanding.

  • Wonderful, womanly, brave powerful song, that only and artist like Idina may deliver.

  • dident she go to the west end for wicked in 2007 after nyc

  • Errrrrrrr.....not really a song for Idina. No thank you.

  • This is what happens to your voice when you have NO technique.

  • @bmh4d0k3n Maybe not the best performance Idina has ever given, but no technique is an absurd observation. She sounds amazing on Broadway and has 2 solid CD's out. You don't achieve Idina's level of success as a vocalist with no technique. This is a "very" difficult song to sing. Madonna actually did a nice job on it.

  • @SterlingRe People with no technique have huge careers all the time. They have natural voices that work for a while but then come apart after too many performances, inappropriate repertoire, or an unhealthy belt that isn't corrected. Honestly, Idina probably just shouldn't be singing this song; it shows off nothing she does well, and she crumbles under its demands. I agree -- Madonna did well with Evita. She also uses her voice in a way that has lasted her and allows her to sing more "legit."

  • @bmh4d0k3n First off, for the most part the huge career stars have a LOT of training throughout their careers, trust. Anywho - Idina was classically trained from a young age. Her SLS style is a much more recent choice. One of the most common mistakes about Idina is that her training was not "legit" in fact theres a video on youtube of her in Uni - you wouldn't even recognise it if it wasn't that you could see her face...classical training all the way. It's called "Sleepy Man"

  • @MvyMkr They get training, but not all teachers know how to make voices last a long time. The classical training isn't hugely evident in the video. It's not a classical style (she belts), and the technique isn't great (she uses a lot of chest voice, the vibrato is slow). Just because she had classical training doesn't mean that the voice is good to go forevermore, especially if it was in her teenage years. She's taken lessons with Tanya Travers from University on, but I can't find much on her.

  • @bmh4d0k3n You're spot on. I mean, you can be classically trained and excel in belting because of it. But yes, to belt while using your chest voice? Plan on saying goodbye to your ability to sing [even decently] much sooner.

  • @overthemoo take into consideration that she's a broadway actress. They need to belt it out, this is evident with all broadway actresses.

  • @Pulapalu It is not evident with all Broadway performers. Belting is not something every singer does, but it's indeed an impressive and popular technique. Anyway, I feel like you only read the latter part of my comment, because I indeed mentioned she is belting - but the main point was that she improperly does so.

  • Her face at 3:58 is really emotional, I dont know why but it is haha! Great video thanks!!

  • Love Idina! She has such a talent telling a story and make us visualize the scene and feel it! She's not just a singer, she really is the ultimate diva!!!! Love Idina!!!!!

  • she is so amazing

  • I had the amazing privilege of seeing this woman in concert, and she was absolutely PHENOMENAL. It was one of the best live performances of anyone that I've ever seen, if not the best. This is an amazing version of this song, I think that she should definitely be Eva in the revival, but that's just me. She totally could. "I love you, and hope you love me" is where the real acting begins in this, and from there, it just goes up, and up, and up. Amazing.

  • that was utterly amazing. I love how she is singing the song to all her fans. Idina deffiently has the best voice ever :DD

  • @ashleighdrummond do you know what this song is about? if she was singing it for her fans...you should be pretty offended, i like her...but ...i have to disagree

  • "... And hope you love me."

    "WE DO!" *girly screams*

LMFAO... the fans make me laugh.

  • I would have sold my bed to see her and i like my bed. Alot.

  • damn! what a annoying modern rubato -.- she cuts phrase without ending it properly. It's like she just couldn't make it to the end...

  • she's so beautiful

  • there is going to be a revival of Evita in 2012. and it has come to my knowledge that there is a young woman to play eva peron who is NOT idina. HOW DARE THEY!!!!! can any of you imagine the ear orgasm that would be associated with idina singing Buenos Aires?? however the young woman elena roger is very talented also but still...

  • @leasolanga i know Idina is great but wait and see for elena! she will do an outstanding job... i saw her in piaf, here in buenos aires and i have no words to describe the passion she put on her performance. and her voice is absolutely amazing!

  • @lolu3000 i was being overly dramatic lol it's my nature. but no i've seen elena roger perform via youtube and yes she is fantastic

  • I love how the fans are completely silent during the performance.

I loved it, good work Idina.

    "WHHOOO I LOVE YOUUUUU!"

    XD

  • Very well done. You can feel the emotion in her voice for the song. Also people Madonna wasn't the original person who ever played Evita. I've heard so many performances of this song and she does it very well

  • beautifully acted....guys she is an actress as well as a singer - this is a BIG song

from one of the most famous shows of all times . come on every singer/

actress would love a crack at this one ..nevertheless she is fab but julie covingtons

version was fragile and beautiful - the best eva peron we never had!

  • Comment removed

  • OMG some of the women screaming was really annoying, you'd think they were having a sexual experience! I love Idina too but OMG! Idina is really awesome no matter what she sings!

  • she is amazing

  • Thanks for posting this :) It was a lovely performance and she looked beautiful :)

It looked like she was nearly crying at a few bits?

  • Umm...I think she did knock it out of the park in this performance.

  • she would have knocked it out of the park if she sang it the same key Madonna did.

  • was she crying? She's so awesome. I soo love her.

  • She's the most gorgeous woman on earth! I don't care if some people think she needs a nose job, cuz if a woman is totally perfect, she wouldn't be beautiful. Idina is Beautiful<3

  • I don't know why people judge this as 'bad" because it's different. Idina sings this music adapted to her (wonderful) voice. If the range doesn't fit, too bad, but she made the music hers while singing it. Any performance should be judged by that.

  • I do like Idina Menzel, but not every female singer on Broadway or otherwise has the chops to pull of "Don't Cry for Me Argentina". She tries, but you need alot of power behind your voice to do it properly.
