  • as always thank you for listening and writing so sweetly.. I saw a double rainbow today driving back from work and I though of a promise..

  • Ah, those rainbows...so much beauty, so little time to savor it. I find those are the moments I remember best..and often learn the most from...

I've seen you before, but I couldn't recall your name.

When I found this song on YouTube, I wanted to hear you play itt.

It just seemed like the kind of song you'd do. Lo and behold, I found you.

Thanks for putting your stamp on this tune.

  • that's a great little story.. .. made me smile.. thanks for listening.. M

  • This reminds me of the reason I took up the guitar. Donovan was a major influence. You have captured the subtle parts that make it beautiful.

  • he was a real hero of mine when I first started playing.. the way he played seemed mysterious an unattainable at the time.. this song is just timeless.. cheers M

  • Your wonderful version has become our lullaby at bedtime...

thank you ichingiching .....you are most precious :o) !!!

  • Thank you Stephanie.. thats a lovely note.. I shall take that warmth with me to NZ and sing it to sea.. 'when sundown pales the sky'.. m

  • brilliant

  • Thanks. m

  • fantasic

  • Thank you.. M

  • Hi, this is a really fantastic cover. I'm on a mission to learn this now, but i might be too much of a novice - is this in some special tuning? Do you have a cap on the strings off the edge of the screen? Thanks for posting this cover on youtube

  • thanks TE.. its a good song to start with.. capo on the second.. and C F and G with the little finger almost always on the third fret ( top E) let me know how you get on..M:)

  • Wow. I like this fingerpicking version. I need to learn it.

  • hope your working on it.. how is it coming along..? m

  • Not bad, actually. Having a little trouble with the interesting things you do with the little finger, but otherwise it sounds respectable. I wish I could sing like you, though.

  • good to hear.. the little finger thingy is worth persevering with.. it will add embellishments to so many songs in the future.. I would like you to sing like you.. so much more authentic. .. peace.. M

  • Thanks for the encouragement. I've almost got that pinky thing down.

  • hows it going?

  • It sounds really good at this point. I'm very pleased. You really made it into a beautiful song. Thanks again. I love all of your vids.

  • That was simply amazing, schene55 is right, you really brought out this song's beauty. I love the harmony part you do, would sound great in a duet.

  • Its a timeless song and your right .. it's perfect for harmonies.. thanks for listening.. m

  • Well done. Nice finger picking.

  • many thanks

  • man, your a crack head

  • cool.. is that good?

  • I think you've played this beautiful song at the perfect speed and volume, so many others seem to race through it and punch it out, thanks for bringing out its inherent beauty.

  • thansk for listening and dropping me a note.. its a great late night song..

  • I agree :)

Well done on this cover, its beautiful

  • Love the unique style you added to this song...well done! It's one of my fav songs ever and I have a version of myself singing and playing it on my bass. I'm working on vids of me singing and playing "Sunshine Superman" and "Season of the Witch". I think Donovan is one of the best singer/songwriters ever and gets no where near enough credit for it...but I digress. Anyways I love what you did with this timeless classic. Kudos all around.

  • what guitar is that?

  • I think I'm playing the Martin D41.. M

  • Being of the same generation, I must I am so thankful to hear your version of this timeless song. Well done, my brother. Blessings of the day.

    Neal form Jamaica

  • Thanks Neil.. it is a timeless song.. Its a lovely late night song.. blessing returned.. Mike

  • Congratulations! You're a great singer and player. I tried to learn some musics of Donovan but i can't play so well like you. Hugs!

  • thanks cmansli.. I learnt many donovan songs when I started playing.. take out can't and substitute 'will' regards and hugs returned.. Mike

  • You've slowed this song down, which is a good idea, to place more emphasis on the lyrics,Excellent!!

  • Cheers for that.. M:)

  • Another good interpretation of a song, I played long time ago, well done and 5 stars.

  • thanks michael .. regards.

  • do you know

"when i'm gone" by phil ochs? or "needle of death" by bert jansch?

you seem to know every good folk song! please post it if you do!

  • hi c64 (good number) !! I will look them up for sure.. I know N of D but would need to dust it down and brighten it up. Thanks for the post

  • keep cool my friend gods peaceto you

  • returned in abundance.

  • Just stumbled onto this one through several layers of Catch The Wind covers, most of which were okay but not really special. I really like yours! Are you surprised? You just have a way of singing songs as if you really mean it. And I think you're right about Donovan. He never did quite reach the caliber or prolificy (not really a word, but it should be) of Dylan's writing, but I liked his voice and guitar playing better...

  • Hi Jack.. I'm beginning to forget what songs I have.. or haven't done. Someone has already reminded me that I have done 'blowing in the wind' twice. Then again its so good there is nothing wrong in singing a good song twice.

I have always strummed this song but my strumming days are over. I'd like to catch up with some of Donovan's later work and see what he's been up to recently. A good song writer should improve with age.. hopefully...? Regards Mike

  • I know what you mean! I have to do a search on my channel sometimes to see if I've already done a certain song! Too many excitotoxins I suppose!

  • nicely done great sounds good

  • Thank you M:)

  • Very good. Great voice and very good sound. Well done. :)

  • THank you for those kind words. Cheers Mike

  • Excellent cover Mike. Love it.

    ((HUGS))

  • Thanks again and hugs returned. M

  • Ohhh great I just found some new chords I had missed from this video! Thanks for that Mike. Oh and just ignore the nonesense that I usually write - but I will keep me plyers and bolt cutters ready if I see anything in case you suddenly appear in the obituary column.

(Dont panic I am joking...he he!!)

  • lol I'm always looking for 'that' chord...

  • Very nice and very relaxed

  • A great song to sing and chill to. M

  • Always loved this song, excellent version.

  • Great cover Mike, A Donovan winner for sure.

    Wasn't it a major hit in 1965?

    Excellent.

  • It was a very early hit for Donovan, although there were many others Cheers M

  • Brilliant! Donnavan strummed this much faster and it sounded a bit 'hurried' in my opinion. Its nice to hear it played (and picked) slowly so that it can be savoured like a good wine....burp! Sorry!

    Cheers Mike..!!

  • Its a great song late into the morning.. cheers. M

  • Wow, this is really really nice. Your style reminda me of Johnny Cash but your voice is gentle. Great job.

Hey I have a cover too if you want to check it out sometime? I don't know how to play it yet on guitar but I think mine's ok.

    Happy Thanksgiving

  • wow this is great.i love it great rendition!

  • Cheers

  • what beautiful lyrics, poetry in motion.

  • Thank you fo rthose kind words.

  • Very nice!

  • cheers

  • Fine!

  • Many thanks

  • Another brilliant cover! I believe Donovan was classified as Europe's own "Bob Dylan", if you will. Certainly an artist that was underrated in the USA. Thank you Mike. It's always a pleasure to listen to your music!

  • Thanks Joe, Your right, Donovan was concidered UK's answer to Dylan although I don't think Don' ever sustained the brillance and depth of lyric writing of Dylan.
