i hate the cowboys. but my husband has been a cowboy's fan since 1965, when bob hayes got there. when they were kids, my mother in law used to baby sit bob hayes, as they grew up across the street from each other in jax. and my father in law was a baseball player at fam, and he and bob hayes were good friends. so, my husband decided to like the cowboys when bob hayes started playing there. and to this day, he is still a cowboys fan. too bad he married a steelers fan. oh well......
Many people claim to know him but the He became an althlete known as the fastes human being alive when he was in high school. He left pratice early 1 day before the big home comming game becuz his father died. He showed up 4 the homecoming game and told the coach over and over to let him play.Finaly in the 4th Q the coach gave in.The 1st paly of the game he ran an interception back 4 a touchdown. He told coach that his dad was blind but 2day he saw him play. That is how it all started.
i never met the man. but my mother in law grew up across the street from him and babysat him as kids. i just was mentioning that my husband was a fan and why
@speedyslime93 Bob Hayes was maybe the greatest sprinter in history. Considering how he utterly destroyed his competition. His races were were events on to themselves.
I cant believe hes not in the HOF.. If a sucka like Lawerence Taylor a wife beater can be in why cant Bob hayes? He actually did his time.. and thats what happened on the field not of!
unfortunately i think the drug conviction (right or wrong) is gonna keep him out. bob hayes grew up across the street from my husbands family in jax, in fact, my husband's mom babysat him. anyway, my husband has been a die hard cowboys fan since 1965, when bob got there.
How can you not put a man who changed the game of football in the Hall of Fame? I love Joe Namath and he changed the game with his "guarantee", but Joe's number's aren't Hall caliber. But his impact on the game is lasting. When you say Joe Namath, you think NFL. Bob Hayes should be the same way. Yeah he got busted on drugs and did time, but if L.T. can be inducted, why not #22. Like the movie from the late 80's said, when it comes to the Hall of Fame, "What About Bob?"
The Cowboys became America's team becuase it was his speed that attracted the American imagination. The Cowboys started having .500 seasons after he came. From 1966-1969, his records are to behold. NFL films featured him for their opening with him running away from everyone.
Thanks for posting this Daniel, Bob Hayes, the greatest sprinter of all time and he did indeed change the NFL, spoke to his brother just days before he died, told him I still sprint because of Bob Hayes, :)
Bob Hayes is a Hall of Famer, he was the best game breaker in his day and deserves to got to the Hall of Fame and still has better numbers than any Dallas Cowboys reciever in history
Bob Hayes should be in the Hall of Fame. What do we need to do to get him inducted into the Hall? Who do you contact? Great tribute to my childhood hero. RIP Bullet
I watched this guy play his first professional game with the Dallas Cowboys. I agree with you but he got into drugs and went to prison for longer than comfortable. Hall not in the cards for this great player. However, his name is in the Ring of Honor at the Cowboys playing venue, Texas Stadium.
you are right im 51 years old i became a cowboy fan i was looking at a street @smith 1966 football book and there was a color picture of Don Meradith takeing the snap from center Dave Manders and ever since ive been a cowboy fan

Believe it or not, but I know someone who tries to say that "The Rocket" from Notre Dame is faster than Hayes.

Hmmm, and yet, Michael Irvin and Lawrence Taylor are in the Hall of Fame with all thier "luggage".
btofan 4 years ago
Thanks for your comment. Drugs and gambling is a big no-no with the Hall. I don't know if Taylor or Irvin were ever caught in that stuff.

How in the world could the Cowboys ever give #22 to anyone. Emmitt didnt make 22 - it was Bob Hayes!!
