  • this song is absolutely beautiful

  • Neetu's dance here is to die for and Kanchan's vocal was out of this world. Jeetendra5 is right - Kanchan was an across the board star in Trinidad after her remake of Calypsonian's Arrow's "hot hot hot" which she did as "kucch gadhbad hai". So sorry to hear of her passing.

  • Love it. I have no word for this lovely song.

  • Babla & Kanchan were an Indian husband-wife musical group best known for work in the chutney music and Desi music genres. They performed together for forty years until Kanchan died in 2004. Originating from Mumbai, India, their music is well known through the world, especially in countries like Canada, United States, Trinidad, Guyana, Holland, Suriname and England.

  • After appearing in the films Rafoo Chakkar, Dharamatma, and Qurbani, Kanchan joined her husband and began performing and touring. Their love for live shows and orchestra music took them away from the Indian Film music scenario. They were popular in Caribbean countries, where they covered soca music hits like "Hot Hot Hot" and revived older hits of chutney singer Sundar Popo. Albums like Kuch Gadbad Hai sold well because of touring support.

  • This is one of Kanchan's most popular film song. Her husband Babla, is the younger brother of Kalyanji& Anandji(KA) and also a music director. She sang mainly for the KA duo and Babla, films like Rafoo Chakkar, Dharmatma, Qurbani. Her daughter Nisha is also a singer.

  • why cant any indian director be creative in thier own way? everything is copied and we are spending our money on these stupid copied things. its better to enjoy the original version of this movie...SOME LIKE IT HOT....

  • agree with you too.indians only like to copy all the time..too much infuluences on our mind even british left.forgeting our own culuture and now all crap in today's movies that i can't even stand and consider it indian..

  • I loved the way Neetu shivered at the sight of the whip. Also how the fear of the lashing made her dance with those frequent sit-ups of her thundrous thighs. Very titilating, indeed.

  • this is Kanchan who is singing thi ssng on neetu

  • All the songs from Rafoochakkar were classy and very acoustic...Got to luv Suman Kalyanpur - she has impressive tone...

    My favorite track...

  • No this is not Suman Kalyanpur at all. This is the one & only international Pop Singer KANCHAN i.e Mrs BABLA(singer of Laila O Laila) who left us forever in 2005.

  • yes this is not suman kalyanpur who also has her own sweet voice but became sad that Kanchan passed away in 2005.Can you please tell me how she died? She was not that old.

  • Mrs. Kanchan Dinkerao Mail (Mr. Babla) died on 26th July 2004 out of Cancer. She was 54.

  • What a great song! Looking for this song for a long time. Who is the singer?

  • Suman Kalyanpur is Singing

  • Kanchan is no more but still needs to be credited

  • @MaliniH Actually the person singing is Kanchan.

  • @MaliniH The singer is Kanchan

  • @MaliniH No it is Kanchan.

  • @GyanFavoriteSongs ; the singer is KUMARI kanchan--- as in Babla & Kanchan. This was one of the songs that made her famous then she went on tour and came to Trinidad and fell in love with chutney..

  • @GyanFavoriteSongs ...kanchan is the singer....lovely voice & song

  • @GyanFavoriteSongs It is Kanchan.

  • schönes lied! danke dir :)))

  • Gern geschehen

  • Ya UR Right

  • SOME ?????

all songs from Bobby are great

  • On Waris 2 she was a chaild

  • I'm on google as we speak:)

  • Interesting! I'm sure they all made a great team:)

Off-topic: janingrigory, have you come across a book titled "Sholay: The Making of a Classic"? It has every and any information on the film, starting from how the story was build from scratch to the ending result. It has tons of information on it; about 200 pages. I so want to get my hands on it but the company that sells it only accepts credit cards and I don't do business with credit cards at all.

  • then how do u pay online? with Basanti's station rides?:)

  • No, Geeta got a bank account under the white stockings of her right thigh; good security ;)

  • e-checks are more dangerous than CC but hey I love your banking idea:)

  • E-checks? I go back to the ol' skool - I send money orders. Nothing's better than being safe. It's a two-second thing; no big deal. Plus, since I make up 99.9% of the company's profits, they'll even take grandma Lullaby's two-week old granny panties;)

  • How do they make profit? I saw an ad for three Dharmendra movies in one Dvd @$5.99...

  • Child, when you have fresh-sealed, newly-packaged films in India for 32 cents, $5.99 is heaven and a bag of chips for them. You should know, you've been there.

  • girl I get all my movies in USA PP and CC...from India I get everything free cuzs are so happy that WE want stuff from India:)tho ma has to buy Calvin Klein Jeans, Loius Vitton and Chanel from Singapore(?) to keep 'em happy

  • U want my money, first get under my foot, lemme stamp u:)

  • You do rupees with that, too?

  • She has? Cool! In which films?

  • Is it a good film? I imagine it to be:)

The song "Chitthi Aayi Hai" is just on its own league. Very sad and emotional lyrics. Amrita looked so cute as one of the audience members. She has such big cheeks; a cutie pie with a baby face:)

  • Kareena Kapoor has taken the first step in bringing the family together...Babita and her daughters did not attend Riddhima's wedding but now the younger generation want to be under the RK banner and make it #1 again(info from the internet)

  • I believe that after Babita and Randhir divorced, she didn't let their daughters frequent their father's house.

  • While watching "Absolutely Fabulous" re-runs I was wondering which Indian actors would be able to do something like this .... Sridevi and Neetu were the only ones who would fit in those roles....

  • Yea, Sri and Neetu would do well in roles like that:)

  • I'm back:)

No janingrigory, I never read anything of that nature. In fact, I've read articles stating the opposite - that they were always happy to be together (since they were best friends for years) and most consider them to be one of the lucky couples of Bollywood for staying together this long. In my opinion, they must've been rumors. That's the negative side of the showbiz: you would never know the complete truth unless you know those people personally:)

  • Yes indeed Janingrigory, there's no one before or since like Zeenat Aman....She changed the canvas of bollywood cool forever... .. some of the '70s actresses have unmatched personalities, wonder how they made it back then through the harsh male-domineering industry

  • I also read that Rajesh Khanna had to hurry with the proposal which he made at the beach with her dad tagging along few feet away..Rajesh knew if he didnt do it Rishi was going to propose to Dimple any day..

  • I'm so happy that they married each other. I can't imagine him being with Dimple. Just doesn't fit right.

Dimple divorced Rajesh Khanna years later. What if the same would've happened between her and Rishi?:)

  • Neetu was made "bold and beautiful" by her best friend Rekha, she pushed Neetu to go after her love or else loose him forever to some Klueless Bombayite...

  • You're welcome! Anytime:)

  • They say that Rishi fell in love with Dimple in "Bobby" and vice-versa. They even said that the two were on the verge of marrying one-another but Raj Kapoor didn't allow that. Some people say that that's the reason why Dimple rushed into marriage with Rajesh Khanna (though before or after the film is something I'm not aware of). Other people say that Dimple was even newly pregnant in "Bobby" (in the bikini scenes around the pool). Could be just some crazy rumors:)

  • You're welcome janingrigory:) Just asked because I wanted you to see it:)

I'll find more candid shots and send them to you:) Sometimes they'll be floatin' around the 'net and we wouldn't have a clue about their whereabouts:)

  • Well I read somewhere that the Vyjantimala romance was a sham and a fake break-up was created between Raj and his wife due to Income tax ppl after him..all about the money in Bollywood :)

  • ...which is why he didn't let Rishi marry her. Totally ridiculous!

  • Before "Sangam" came out, rumors were created (by the RK production crew) that the two were romantically linked, most-likely to upbring people's expectations of the film and broaden their interest in it. These rumors and scandals are sort of like the #1 key to movie-makers if they want their film to go far:)

They even said that she was pregnant by Raj Kapoor, which I don't believe AT ALL, because those same people said that Dimple Kapadia was Raj Kapoor's own daughter...

  • I'm glad she did go to RK productions because if she were not to have done so, we wouldn't have "SSS" and she might not have been as full-grown of an actress as she was after the film:)

janingrigory, did you receive the pic I sent you or it didn't get through?

  • Yes indeed ,Janingrigory, there's no one before or since like Zeenat Aman....She changed the canvas of bollywood cool forever... .. some of the '70s actresses have unmatched personalities, wonder how they made it back then through the harsh male-domineering industry...

  • Interesting! I always thought that Vyjayanthimala was his favorite heroine but then again, there were many rumors flying back-and-forth between the two somewhere around the time when "Sangam" was supposed to come out that they probably didn't vibe as well as they did before. Good to know that:)

  • He had to beg and convince them so much that they finally did. Even when they did, they put such ratings on it so that only adults could go and watch it; children were not allowed. Very harsh rules for a person who is considered to be one of the best, if not the best, directors:)

  • Yes, he certainly took risks:) Risks that caused him trouble and so much talk from both the censor boards and just the Indian people in general, but it was his drive and passion for wanting to be "different" that took him far. They said that his films had that "Western" twist to them with the heroines and that they were always seen with lack of clothes on, sort of on the soft-porno-ish side. They didn't let "Satyam Shivam Sundaram" play in the cinema.

  • Raj Kapoor lived a dramatic life and even spent the last moment of his life in a dramatic way when he collapsed and the president of India had to walk down to present him with the Dada Saheb Phalke Award.

Ali Peter John's "Personal Encounter" With Raj Kapoor

  • Raj Kapoor was very sick in his last days and on top of it all, he had asthma, which was sort of like a double burden on him:) They're making a documentary on him and I want to watch it so badly. I also want to purchase his biography:) My first Hindi song was "Awaara Hoon":) I used to (and still do) sing it soooo much when I was younger:) I heard the song "Awaara Hoon" and then shortly, watched "Seeta aur Geeta":)

  • My first Raj Kapoor movie was "Shree 420" I saw the '60s in the'90s on a bad VHS print rented from local LA desi store(I knew they made copies in the back room)...Now Im upto my mid '80s Bollywood :)...I still love Shree 420 and Awara...

  • Mine was "Awaara", but of course, after I watched "SaG" (since that was my first ever film):) I think that for most people, it's either one or the other; they either saw "Awaara" first or "Shree 420" as their first-time interaction with Raj Kapoor.

'80s was mostly about Indian Art House films - films on the artsy aspect. Stars such as Shabana Azmi, Deepti Naval, Farooq Shaikh, etc. Even those "unheard" actor/actresses that did Bharathanatyam-styled films. Very artsy!

  • I keep watching my fav movies from the '70s over and over again so really dont know when Ill reach Shabanas and Deeptis:)..Ive seen Umrao Jaan and other famous movies I love Rekha's Umrao Jaan... Super Classic

  • Make sure you check out most of Deepti's work. She made an amazing couple with Farooq Shaikh. Most of their films are hidden and under-appreciated gems. When you watch "Chashme Buddoor", please tell me your opinion of it. I'm sure you'll LOVE it:) The writer of the film is a female (Sai Paranjape). She did an exceptional job with the film. BEST comedy of Bollywood and one of my top 5 fave films:)I love the smart ways this film mentions the stereotypes of the filmi world. Complete classic!

  • I have seen her in "Water" great movie and yes Deepti Naval is an awesome actress, reminds me of late Nutan...see Im watching diff movies in diff stages CM is next on my list:)

  • CB :)

  • I was like, "Chashme Ma...Ma...?":)

diwanee2, have you seen "Naam" with Sanjay Dutt, Poonam Dhillon and Nutan? I've been meaning to watch that one for the longest. It's about a woman who lives with her two sons and one of them is very troubling, always finding himself in some kind of mess.

You'll find one of the songs on my "Faves" list:) Great song with deep lyrics to it:)

  • ...and had very high hopes that it would turn out to be a hit. The film came out and it flopped major time. People didn't like it (until after his death where everyone started understanding what his initial goal with the film was and what he was trying to portray). Out of frustration (since he had spent so much money on the film) and loss of money, he picked himself up, collected some money and made "Bobby" in 1973, two years after his film's flop. The rest was history:)

  • Raj Kapoor put his ALL in this film (and in every film of his in general for he was a perfectionist and didn't like for the audience to watch a film of his and say "Huh?", "What?", "But why?). Before he did this film, he finished "Mera Naam Joker" (a film made to loosely depict his life, which is also his favorite film) and he cast Rishi (for the very first time) to play his younger character (Rishi won his first award:)). He took years and years to complete the film...

  • ...she doesn't seem to stick to her word when Rishi takes her to a party where all you see are very ahead-of-their-time guys and girls, dancing and drinking every second. Rishi even asks her why she seems so reserved, when she herself told him that she's ahead of her time.

She was very naive and "talk the talk but don't walk the walk" type of a girl:)

  • Dimple's character was nothing but one of a very naive girl. Even though where she lived (Goa, India) is considered to be one of the most developed states in the country, it is also one of the least populated, which means that she didn't have contact with many different people and get educated. You can sense that because towards the beginning of the film, where she's in the restaurant with Rishi and keeps telling him that she's a 21st century girl while everyone's still stuck in the 20th...

  • Neetu was so adorable in handful of movies she did, her pink and yellow mini skirts and flared pants ...shirts with dots and flower prints... so retro and flower power girlie look she has...

  • And I love Neetu and her long flowing hair...I think Asha Parekh started the trend and Neetu and Rekha did the bouffants and beehives or sometimes let it flow loose with awesome hair pieces jewelry .They carried it so well...

  • And lets not forget our zen cool zeenie who had such a classy look with her flowing hair simple and chic...awesome look

  • Asha Parekh DID start the trend. She set so many trends besides that:) 'Till this day, I'm wondering as to how "Seeta aur Geeta" would've turned out with her. Would've been a fun experience:)

  • Love Story(Hollywood) came out in 1970 maybe Raj Kapoor who was ahead of all filmmakers of his time thought it was time for the young voice of India. But knowing Indian public he did not make a very serious movie like Love Story...Yes Dimple was too tall for Rishi:)

  • Dimple was very tense in the beginning of the movie and as the story moves forward there was a need for a very talented actress. Neetu would have taken over the stage with her performance like she did in Kabhi Kabhi...and ofcourse look so cute in her minis with dots ,platform shoes and plastic hair clips:)

  • I looooooove this song! This is my favorite Neetu song of all time:) She has such a baby face and and looks so cute in the Arabic clothing:) Very cute!

"Bobby"'s one of my favorite soundtracks of ALL time, along with Hema's "Sanyasi" where you can listen to every song and not get tired of it:) Great gems!

  • Oh, I agree 100%! Dimple could NEVER do kiddie roles. Just the fact that she looked older than her years (she didn't look 16 at all in the film), sort of didn't even give her a chance of acting cute or lovely. She was just good in emotional scenes and didn't match with Rishi at all. Rishi was so energetic and so lovable. That's why he and Neetu hit it off so well because both are just one big ball of energy:) I'm so happy Raj Kapoor didn't let Rishi marry Dimple:) We would miss one CUTE couple:)

  • Neetu, hands-down, wins the "Cuteness" contest! There isn't even a competition to begin with. Neetu's the queen of such roles. Dimple always looked older than her years, and I always said that during the "cute" scenes (especially when Rishi and her are singing "Hum Tum Ek Kamre Mein Band Ho" around the scene where it's dark and they're in the forest with Dimple in two ponytails, Neetu would look soooooo adorable), but then again, in those emotional roles, she was good:)

  • Raj Kapoor loved to portray different economic-class backgrounds in his movies... Rishi is the "rich prepie" and Dimple is a smart-mouthed "Goan" in Bobby....Neetu would have been much bouncier teeny-booper ...

  • He certainly did, which is one of the major aspects of his movie-making that I respect so much. He had the power in his hands, but didn't abuse it. When he cast both his sons and his brothers in his films, he didn't just make them "the rich man"; he knew how to balance the characters as far as power and strength came. In "Bobby", true that Rishi was rich and Dimple belonged in the lower to middle-class family, but Rishi's humbleness totally put the two characters as equals:)

  • In "Awaara", "Shree 420", "Main Nashe Men Hoon", "Jis Desh Men Ganga Behti Hai" (just to name a few), Raj Kapoor had his "rich" moments with his characters, but at the end of the day, the true climax came at the point where he understood his place in life - that being rich isn't always what brings you happiness. Just take into effect "Shree 420". The entire film rotates around him singing "Mera Joota Hai Japani" to towards the end, where he understands his whereabouts in "Ramaiya Vastavaiya":)

  • See, if it was Neetu who came to Raja's party, she would storm in the house with her cute, village-belle-styled skirt and flip-flops, not even caring about the contrast between her clothing and the other people's, go to Raja, tell the girls who were talking to him to back away, wish him a personal happy birthday, kiss him on the cheek, eat her cake and go:) She would be soooooooo cute during those scenes! :)

  • With Neetu, I ADORE characters such as Roopa from "Dharam-Veer" on there - those feisty, talkative, chirpy roles. I love seeing her in happy characters. Times where she's so in-control of the situation:) I don't think she would've carried those certain scenes (e.g. where Bobby comes to Raja's party with her grandmother, looking so taken-aback and very reserved) as well as Dimple did. This was Dimple's "IT" film!

  • me 2

because sh is so Chulbuli cute

  • Neetu was one of the people who sent her photograph to Raj Kapoor for casting, along with a newcomer Dimple (who was 14 at the time) whose parents used to be close with Mr. Kapoor himself; they would frequent each others' houses. Evidently, he picked Dimple for the role (where two years later, when she was 16, the film was made)and I have to disagree with you two because for "Bobby", you needed an actress who could carry out those emotional scenes as well:)

  • Yes Janingrigory, Neetu would definitely have given that extra fizz to the movie"Bobby"... Dimple Kapadia will always be the most stunning and gorgeous teenager bollywood has ever produced but in the movie she looks distracted at times...she has the " Id rather be swimming or be at a pajama party" look on her face..On the other hand Neetu, who had been in front of the cameras since she was 5 years old, would have poured her heart, body and soul in her first grown-up project..

  • If you are looking for young Bollywood you must see Rishi-Neetu movies ...In 1973 Raj Kapoor ushered the new wave in the Indian Cinema with "Bobby"...parents took the backseat and movies were made on young teenage couples..

  • In '50s and '60s storylines concentrated on adults, parents and their lives but with the mega success of "Bobby" most moviemakers followed RK's lead and teenage couples were in and Rishi-Neetu made one superhit after another.....She retired at the age of 21....I hve been waiting for this song, thanks MaliniH

  • UR Welcome

  • Thank you sooooooo much for this amazing upload, MaliniH. I was waiting for a very long time for someone to upload this gem:) I'm glad you did so:) Appreciate it!

  • "Rafoo Chakkar" is one of the couples' best films. A fun and carefree comedy that is derived from the U.S. film "Some Like It Hot" with Marilyn Monroe, though just the presence of Neetu and Rishi made the Bollywood version so much more entertaining:) They are both true entertainers!

  • This is my ALL TIME favorite song on Ms. Cutie Pie herself, Neetu Singh! She looks so extremely adorable and so beautiful with the Arabic attire. Both of the outfits match her so well. Neetu and Rishi make one of my favorite couples. Their films are all so entertaining and they epitomize young and innocent love. They are waaaaay too cute together!
