Something to be aware of: 95% of the students want him to speak and get the award. Think about it. Kids today are smarter than most of these 70 year old alumni that are making all this noise. IT WILL happen because of the wiser youth these days.

I don't like the idea of refusing to allow people to speak because of their positions. This is the kind of shit the Left does all the time, and I won't tolerate it...even when it comes from the Right.

ND should allow him to speak and they can then address what/why they disagree with some of Obama's positions. If ND decides not to grant Obama an honorary degree because of his positions, then I've got no gripe about that.

Obama is free to speak wherever he wants -even at ND under other circumstances. The issue is whether Notre Dame, as a Catholic institution of higher ed, is honoring Obama with an honarary degree. This is indirect defiance of Catholic teaching and should not be done.

The USCCB put a statement out in 2004 that forbids Catholic institutions from honouring people who oppose *fundamental* Catholic values.

ariaane: I double checked...Obama has been invited to speak at Notre Dame's commencement ceremony and to receive an honorary degree.

I hated it when radical Leftists refused to allow Bush (and other conservatives) to speak on certain college campuses, so in the interest of fairness I think Obama should be allowed to speak at Notre Dame.

However, given Obama's political positions I think it's perfectly acceptable for them to NOT give him an honorary degree.
