  • Amazing project... more and more people are converting to electric.. awesome.

  • The motor being installed is relatively small at 7.5 HP. However, that is strong enough to push the dune buggy to about 50 MPH!

  • no one mentions the motor,s horse power

  • Sorry, we don't ship outside the USA at this time.

  • do you ship outside usa?

  • Good job boys! I enjoyed your video. I am a long ways away before I can take on a project like this but soon enough I will be giving it a try.

  • So if my in city mileage is 16 miles to the gallon, then my electric motor will only get me up to 16 miles a charge? Ok, I willl save this for a trex trike type of build or a chopper.

  • @grfximage Yes, more or less, that is what I have seen. That's why we have designed and prototyped a three wheeled roadster at Shockwave Motors It give far superior performance in both speed and range!

  • If I want to do this in my 94 Jimmy, could I get some really good power from an electric motor build? Also, my truck is an automatic not sure if that matters.

  • @grfximage While it's technically possible to convert a large truck with an automatic transmission, I'm not sure you would get the range you would need. As a rule of thumb, I've found that you can usually get range equal to the MPG of the vehicle before the conversion. In other words, with a large vehicle that maybe gets 12 MPG that is the range you can expect with a typical lead-acid battery pack.

  • Spline!!!! Not Spleen!

  • can you do this to an automatic transmission? guess you'd probably have to use the torque converter to prevent tranny fluid from leaking out the front seal. does anyone know?

  • Do you need to have a transmission for this or can you just plug it directly to driveline. Thanks

  • @exoticmotorsports Using a transmission depends on your performance goals. With a fixed drive gear ratio you are limited to the top speed you can attain. Also, with a transmission you get a reverse and don’t have to worry about electrically reversing the motor.

  • no clucth?crazy....

  • what you do for heat in the winter time

  • i checked...those bloody series wound DC motors that are perfect for my car are upwards of $2,000 ! The motor controller is about $ 1,500!

  • @amartinjoe dc permanent magnet motor is what you want ! check out lynch motor company they will help you with the motor, controller and drive solutions

  • THATS SOME FINE OKIE RIGGING GUYS. IM PLANING TO BUILD A HYBRID MYSELF USING SOME OLD PLANS FROM M.E.N. I GOT YEARS A GO. I WISH I FOUND THIS SOONER. JR

  • Cool vid. I wonder how much money that old forklift motor was brand new 40 years ago!

  • **THIS IS WHAT ORVILLE AND WILBER WRIGHT DID.....100 YEARS LATER...POW-BAM-BOOM..SMILE**

  • Pfff... Who needs a crane to lift 90 pounds? That's only like 40 kg. I used to lift 90 KG of iron in my old workplace...

  • @mistara31415

A good carpender dont brag about his tools.

  • would be easier whit a floor or tranny jack

    but,nice work

  • that was good..thanks

  • @rattracing91 You don't need a clutch. The synchros do all the work.

  • so how many HP and how much Torque is the motor?

  • I put a video of my most recent look under the hood. I'm buying a piece every couple of months cause I don't make a lot of money. I'm using some pretty good parts, netgain warp 9 and a logisystems controller. any advice on ignitions?

  • great video

  • REALLY thanks for the video ,i am in India ...i also try to do this in my car ........excellent ...veeeeeeeeery thank you .

  • I will make one of this. thanks for the info.

  • cool video and a great project.we need more guys like you out there.we could wait another 100 years for the auto companies to make something thats affordable.before i spend 40 grand on a goverment motors(GM)chevy volt that makes a pinto look like a caddy id be will to do what you guys are doing.

people like you need our support and protection as much as the world needs your technical abilities.

have u seen neil youngs lincvolt project?its on youtube check it out.

    thanks guys!!!

  • Great to see so many converters out there. Every time I search youtube I get hundreds more results each time. Nice job with the coupler too by the way.

  • were are u getting the motor?

  • Good video! Talks about two of the things I was wondering more about. Thank You.

  • could you run this with a bedini motor for power?

--i have seen bedini's that put out approx 130 volts DC,

    & simultaneously charges another battery,

--while running on just a few volts from another

  • Excellent, Excellent!!!! These guys are great!

  • FANTABULOUS!

Good stuff here. Can't wait to see the rest.

  • nice thx

  • I didn't see the clutch or flywheel were they installed? The video was very well done. I would of really liked to have seen the car start and move on its own power.

  • You don't need them. A clutch is used to disconnect the transmission from the engine in order to take the load off the gears because the engine is still running and producing power even at idle. On this, all you have to do is let off the accelerator for the motor to stop producing power (it'll just freewheel). A flywheel is really only there to carry an ICE through it's combustion cycle, and smooth out power impulses (as well as start it through the ring gear, and providing a mt for the clutch).

  • Excellent tutorial!
