They just do not have that hard of a training. Being elite is mostly a state of mind, and the average U.S Marine state of mind isn't tested as hard as the RMC, not even close. The Recon Marines have to go through a sort of hell though, and to complete the Recon Marine training shows that you've got the "elite state of mind". There's no shame in not being elite, however there is shame in claming something that isn't true.

According to the house of commons their are 9500 Royal Marine Commando, Recon Marines are semi elite, Force Recon is a different Animal entirely, there are only about 900 of them. In my opinion they are slightly more elite then the Royal Marine Commandos bc they have more covert roles at the same time take on dif functions..
However, Royal Marine Commandos have a excellent history. They are the reason in part the U.S. Army SF wear the Green beret.

I meant Recon Marines, but you seem smart so you probably got that. A Recon Marines vs RMC discussion (or maybe you meant Force Recon? In that case well they're probably more elite) is not something I'll be a part of (even though that's probably not your goal) because they've got different jobs and I think that they match eachother in mindset.
Regular Recon Marines are semi elite because what they do is specialize in advance recon for foward operating marine units and commanders, they are limited in the scope and range in which they conduct recon. Force Recon are also Direct Action units who an operate further behind enemy lines conducting DA and SR they carry out more specialized missions and responsibilites
Every single Royal Marine is a Commando, full stop. The rest of the British forces (males) can complete the Commando course (last half of Royal Marines training) making them either an Army or Navy Commando, not a Royal Marine. Check the facts before you post...

RMC is a Royal Marines Commando - Royal Marines is the name of the force they work in.
Elite & semi-elite etc aren't used in British Forces - it's either regular forces (Army, Navy, RAF) or special forces (SAS, SBS). However, as Royal Marines have the longest basic infantry training in the world (32 weeks) and have stand-alone amphibious capabilities they are deemed to be of a far higher standard than regular infantry units.
Longest basic infantry training in the world I'm not so sure about. I do not know exactly what is defined as "Basic infantry training", but I do know that the Swedish Fallskärmsjägarna/Parachute Rangers have 11 months/48 weeks of training before becomming a Fallskärmsjägare.
Do you know how long the Parachute Regiment training course is? Because I know that the Parachute Regiment and RMC are coutned as being on the same level.
Your Parachute Rangers would be classed as Special Forces - they're trained in a specialst role eg. demolitions, communications, medic etc working in small 6 man teams (according to Wikipedia).
British Parachute Regiment training is 28 weeks long, although once they have completed basic training they progress to a 4 week parachute course. They are often seen as being on the same level as Royal Marines, but they have different roles so it is impossible to judge!
The Fallskärmsjägarna are not classed as Special Forces by the Swedish Armed Forces. Their job is Long Range Reconnaissance and Störstrid (direct translation: Annoyance combat) and may also act as CCT's. Whether or not they perform sabotage missions is a topic of debate. Fallskärmsjägarna also operate in groups of 8
The only SF unit in Sweden are the SOG.

In reality its all relative to nothing tactics become outdated in months. RMC's are one of the reasons America has SOF Capabilities, During WW2 American Rangers and OSS officers went through British Commando school to receive Elite training while we gained experience in WW2.

The US Marines have some of America's most decorated and experienced regiments.
Royal Marines on the other hand have yet to form a reputation on the battlefield. The last marine force to surrender in the 20th century were the RMs in the Falklands....and once again the first marine force to surrender in this 21st century were RN sailors and RMs to Iranians.
USMC was crucial to winning the war in Iraq. No British unit made an impact on either of our wars yet. You people arent crucial.

They just do not have that hard of a training. Being elite is mostly a state of mind, and the average U.S Marine state of mind isn't tested as hard as the RMC, not even close. The Recon Marines have to go through a sort of hell though, and to complete the Recon Marine training shows that you've got the "elite state of mind". There's no shame in not being elite, however there is shame in claming something that isn't true.

According to the house of commons their are 9500 Royal Marine Commando, Recon Marines are semi elite, Force Recon is a different Animal entirely, there are only about 900 of them. In my opinion they are slightly more elite then the Royal Marine Commandos bc they have more covert roles at the same time take on dif functions..
However, Royal Marine Commandos have a excellent history. They are the reason in part the U.S. Army SF wear the Green beret.

Regular Recon Marines are semi elite because what they do is specialize in advance recon for foward operating marine units and commanders, they are limited in the scope and range in which they conduct recon. Force Recon are also Direct Action units who an operate further behind enemy lines conducting DA and SR they carry out more specialized missions and responsibilites

RMC is a Royal Marines Commando - Royal Marines is the name of the force they work in.
Elite & semi-elite etc aren't used in British Forces - it's either regular forces (Army, Navy, RAF) or special forces (SAS, SBS). However, as Royal Marines have the longest basic infantry training in the world (32 weeks) and have stand-alone amphibious capabilities they are deemed to be of a far higher standard than regular infantry units.

Your Parachute Rangers would be classed as Special Forces - they're trained in a specialst role eg. demolitions, communications, medic etc working in small 6 man teams (according to Wikipedia).
British Parachute Regiment training is 28 weeks long, although once they have completed basic training they progress to a 4 week parachute course. They are often seen as being on the same level as Royal Marines, but they have different roles so it is impossible to judge!

Their job is Long Range Reconnaissance and Störstrid (direct translation: Annoyance combat) and may also act as CCT's. Whether or not they perform sabotage missions is a topic of debate. Fallskärmsjägarna also operate in groups of 8

The US Marines have some of America's most decorated and experienced regiments.
Royal Marines on the other hand have yet to form a reputation on the battlefield. The last marine force to surrender in the 20th century were the RMs in the Falklands....and once again the first marine force to surrender in this 21st century were RN sailors and RMs to Iranians.
USMC was crucial to winning the war in Iraq. No British unit made an impact on either of our wars yet. You people arent crucial.

The fact that Im even devoting time to address an org. as insignificant as the RMs is only due to the facts that I have at hand to use in my arguments.
In the 1775-1815 period, the early USMs captured so many RN ships and RM detachments that its not even funny. New Orleans 1815....we sent the RMs running. Leathernecks aboard the USS Constitution took two Royal Marine detachments prisoner aboard the HMS Levant and HMS Cyane with ease.

@ryantika Yes the Royal Marine's have tougher training. But to say that makes the US Marines inferior is pretty ignorant considering the all cross train with each other (like this video :p). Not to mention the UK has a much smaller military and therefore can spend more to train the individual soldier, marine, airman, sailor, etc. But to simply write off US troops is very arrogant of you.
