And people enjoy claptons music more in general because of his vocal voice - the difference is that knopfler can ommit a voice from any of his songs and the song will maintain its shape. The axe is MKs voice and he is unequaled by any guitarist you can list off to me. The only other guitarist i can think of with as good a tone is joe satriani but he just plays super fast arpeggios
