  • let's not forget that exploitation is part of the rise of asia, look what china is doing in africa, it's almost as discsuting as the post-colonial era of the sixties to the eighties

  • @butobuto1 when you point 1 finger to others, you are pointing 4 fingers to yourself ;)

  • @vivspring don't get me on generalisations, it's wasn't my intent, i know very well what 'the west' has been doing for centuries, i'm euopean but i don't feel responsible as chinese in general shouldn't feel responsible for the example i put in my comment.. i'm glad a large part of asia is rising, but sometimes it feels like they learned too well from the west. i would hate to see a chinese or indian post-colonial system as i hate it what the west did and is still doing

  • Comment removed

  • @butobuto1 don't act like the rest of the more richer countries do not exploit cheaper work force in poorer countries. dont call others guilty when you are guilty yourself

  • @vivspring don't call me guilty coz the leaders of my country are, i do what i can to lead a conscient and justifible life, i raised my kids in a way they would comprehend the injustice of our system and fight it

if i would critisize the us and their politics, their corporation, you would react like this

i critsize all, including my own country and this worthless EU, so don't put giult on me personally as i never ment to put guilt on 'all chinese' personally

  • @butobuto1 first of all, i want to apologize for the harsh words before. but i do think that you are worrying about the wrong thing. i think that china is not following the western footstep to africa for their resources. it does not have the intention. if it does it would have done so long ago when it was strong. china today, is a developing country with a huge appetite for resources. hence, it is sourcing for resources everywhere in the world..africa, angolia, etc,,u name it.

  • Comment removed

  • @butobuto1 so clearly, china wants africa's resources and it is trying to "give back" by building infrastructures and etc in africa. so i dont see why you would package it as "following the footstep of western post-colonial system". china is looking forward into the future and it is not particularly interested in following other people's old footstep. but i agree..it is yes explaiting while trying to get resources.

  • Kishore Mahbubani mentions China and India in the same breath but the fact is: china is way ahead of India and views India's rise with contempt much as West does vis-a- vis china.

The simple fact is: there is room for only one person at the top and when there are competing parties, there is bound to be rivalry.

  • When I read the title I thought this was just another NWO shill trying to bash the West and aggrandize communist China. But thankfully, I was wrong. Clearly Asians are much better than that. No arrogance like the westerners. Very wise, civilized and well meaning. China may be run under a one party system but what it has done for the third world in terms of trade and prosperity is truly deserving of respect. And respect is much more valuable than world conquest through violence and torture.

  • Great conversation, brave man!

  • Most interesting perspective

I did know that Asian citizens were banned from IMF and World Bank administration.

He is spot on with the ideological arrogance bit..

China's geopolitical competence IS huge, as I have been observing it work for the past several years.

When they want something they make friends, instead of enemies.

    USA supports itself selling war.

  • 12:15 carefull ,great job

  • too optimistic but really interesting. Asia should not see its growth in west decline...

  • wtf is this Asia fanboy...

First try to get the nr1 in scientific research. Then in millitary technology and then try to get your culture expanded over the whole world and actually succeed in that before talking about some sort of shift. Sure Asia has a good looking economy ahead, but its nowhere near from shifting of west to east bitch!

  • @FriedNugget

Asshole white trash or red neck, whatever you are, someone needs to fuck your shit brain out and I will do that! Your fuck-up US is a bankrupt shithole full of over-weight fat people. Hope you live long enough to clean up Asian's toilet.

  • @megakids

    lol, you mad bro?

  • @FriedNugget

Maybe your brain is to fuck-up that you don't get it. Go watch some porn, not this kind of intellectual dialogue. It's too deep for you!

  • @megakids

I think I get this situation way more than you do, because i dont get all pissed about not being the sole superpower. Look, if you like Asia, fine. I dont care. But you have to accept the west is still the ruler of todays wordl and you have to accept that freedom of speech is a right that the west very much cares about. So instead of flaming me with stereotype bullshit you might wanna figure out why Asia is still in its condition it is today. Thank you for you time, have a nice day.

  • @FriedNugget

Talking to small brain Americans you have to use this kind of language that they are used to. Who is more pissed off? I think YOU ARE. At this day and age when you see Obama in Toronto "begging" the world to be "on the same boat", you should know your country is no longer "relevant"! You started wars that cannot be concluded...that again, Vietnam and N Korea repeated. You still think hard WHY US has degraded to such a state. You have a nice day!

  • @megakids

Funny how you start to use completely irrelevant subjects to try to make a point. Every country likes to go its on way, because its in better interest for them. Not to please the other. No country will ever do that. And again, im still sure youre mad because you came out of nowhere, pretty much insulted me of things i dont do and you expect me to respect your oppinon? Gime a break. And believe me, the wars that have been started can have a good ending, it depends on the leader. no u

  • 30:33 perfect excuse for enslaving people.

  • I've read his book, it is a good read and introduces a lot of interesting scenarios, and no doom and gloom either - which is nice.

  • if you atribute the rise of the west to christianity and its fall to the secularism, how did china rise? its not christian and its state religion is none...

  • China is only catching up with the West - using technology and science developed in the West! However China is fast Christainising and I believe will become the next great Catholic civilisation - resisting UN plans for an atheistic global one world government

  • china is largely of Buddhist, Hinduism and Taoism, etc. with minority of Christians, Muslims and followers of Judaism...china's development is largely attributed to their adoption of capitalism and globalization...china's ascension has nothing to do with religion nor Christianity for that matter.

  • You ignored my point that China is only catching up - not as yet creating a uniquely Chinese civilisation that will continue where the now atheist West cannot proceed to. China will not do this with Buddhism - otherwise it would already have done so! Also China will have to address its serious aging issue which will adversely affect its economic growth etc.

Only a CATHOLIC STATE can deal with this terminal problem! A growing population provides the foundation for ALL else!!

  • Your statement is very vague. Catching up on what? Just to mind you, there's no god in Buddhism. Obviously being a Catholic State had nothing to do with growing the population since China is now ALREADY the most populous country in the world with it's Buddhism and Taoism tradition. I seriously think that becoming a Christian (or Catholic........you really confused me on this one) nation and keep breeding off-springs is the key for China to "catch up". Again, catching up on what?

  • agreed... i'm just as perplexed by amaqula's statements

  • Catching up means achieving the living standards etc of the West.

And China may be populous but a close analysis reveals more deaths than births - an untenable situation economically and every other way! China must address this if she is to have a future - and a solution other than immigration if Chinese are to survive! Only Catholicism has and always had the answer! Atheistic 'solutions' are the problem and spell the eventual death of a people! That's what poisonous atheism offers!

  • to adopt chatholicism would continue to have their population to grow from 1.2 billion and further it would also mean an over taxing on food supplies, utlra high density countryside and urbanized areas. increase population esp. without social upward mobility = more poverty, rotting cesspool urban landscape etc. more people in china would ruin them. they can barely reign in the population explosion.

what is this "closer analysis" you are referring to?

  • Never judge tomorrow on today's science. Population growth is the greatest stimulus towards scientific development and creativity there is - providing both the impetus manpower and funding for expansion.

Remember space waits to be conquered and one thing is for sure - ageing nations will never conquer it - they won't even retain their own lands in time! Only a foundation in Catholicism will again provide the wherewith all for mankind to expand - just as happened in Europe 500 years ago!

  • that midsection there doesn't make sense..could you rephrase it...

and you do know that religion isn't the answer for china's issues either. if as you say they are having an aging problem, having more kids will likely do more harm than good. you do know that china has very limited usable land, right? it is a large country but much of it isn't suitable to support a large population. besides they can always resort to some form of immigration to deal with population

  • Having children is the only way to have a future! That is the reality. A nation's policies must be based on realities not on wishful thinking. And relying on immigration to make up your population deficit is another way of secceeding your country

If China sees this as its only way out of its demographic crises then its doesn't have the necessary qualifications to become a superpower. I think ambitious China will awaken and adjust to reality ie adopt Catholic policies

  • what was wishful about what i said? the only thing that is fantasy here is your desire for china to be a christian nation/adopt christianity as a dominate faith. 1 agian christians are only a small group of a country of a billion or so people, 2.for china to secure its place as a super power of this century the people of china would have to see significant social upward mobility. like the 300 million that have migrated from the countryside to the city...

  • @Xenthoid Don't worry about it, amaqula is a fanatical Catholic who believes that the entire world should become Catholic. His comments are the same everywhere. The format always starts with pointing one issue or another before jumping to the conclusion that only Catholicism can solve it.

  • haha sorry I meant to say "I seriously don't think" Thanks for pointing it out.

  • @Xenthoid Confucianism has been a part of Chinese civilization. Even today Chinese scholars and government officials are thoroughly versed in it. One reason why they are building many Confucian schools in Africa as well. Confucianism is a philosophy, not a religion. It places an importance in personal character, family values and respect for the elders. China was and is still built upon these foundations which create a very different mindset from the Western worlders.

  • This is a wise, perceptive man...what a contrast to the morons that run America...

  • He has a angry Physiognomy.

  • i rather think it's a realistic viewpoint, open-minded with conclusions based on a variety of facts

  • is it me or is the prof impatient, even angry at the host at the start of the vid? Just watch his eyes when the host picks up the book. LOL

  • I just came back from Asia and they rarely discuss the US and Europe at all in their business conversations.

  • We are talking about u all..not Asia, US,or EU..whoever..FUKIT

  • i know many people in europe. europeans are the last people who thinks europe is an important trade partner. they even don't look at just one generation above in europe and compare their life with the current mid class. why are the europeans unaware of the change? the reason is simple. goverment spends yearly more money than coca-cola for promoting eu to his own people.

  • not a single european country? wtf? What about the EU?

  • EYE BROWSSSSSSS

  • no...wtf are you talking about?

  • Imchin you make no sense. Are you ok?

  • The decline of the west is a result of a genetic mutation/substitution. The west will be ruled increasingly by people who really CANNOT understand the plain text of the western laws, science and arts. The American society will become more and more savage, and China will become more civilized, as it combines the better aspects of Chinese and western civilizations.

  • Genetic mutation, substitution?? What's that all about. Is it code for, abort and contracept yourself to oblivion, then replace yourself with other cultures???

The problem for the West is that it has lost it's grip on reality since losing Catholicism and replacing it with the vague vacuous nonsense of secular humanism. It cannot defend itself, because it cannot define itself. Laws, science and arts need a realistic foundation and had one in Catholicism. Now that's gone and any dross goes.

  • Look at the Western Roman Empire, more and more Germanic tribesmen live within its borders and they eventually took over. On the east, it mutated into a Greek based civilization. Such shift is inevitable. It is not the religion or the system, it's the people that determine the conduct of state affairs. When America has judges who cannot understand and follow the letter of the law, it declines in a shocking rate--because these judges are supposed to be the elite of elites.

  • But what is the state of the law that the judges are making their judgements on? Upon what are these laws based? How are they derived? In other words what are the philosophical/religious underpinnings of these laws? This is where religion comes in -right at the root of things.

Whatever about the Roman Empire etc, present humanist principles allowing the decimation of the next generation (to be replaced by new cultures), is not 'inevitable' at all, but the result of perverse practices.

  • As an asian I have my doubts. Mahbubani said something abt the number of phDs holders from asia. If that is the case, then it is a huge disappointment that this number is not reflected on the number of asian nobel prize winners. I am raised in Singapore and I know how much education is emphasized in the family. But the education system is like a giant mould churning out similar cookies with little substances.

  • Well, before WWII, most of the Nobel winner were Europeans, not Americans. But that fact alone didn't stop America replacing Europe as the world leader in science and economy. In fact US was the largest economy in the world since 1890. So I think the trend of Nobel Prizes somewhat lags the power shift by 50 years.

  • ever heard of brain drain?

  • Note also that Mahbubani likes to cherry pick successful asian "democracy" stories. In the Singapore context, the leaders always like to they are like a first division government and the opposition 3rd division. Mind you, the govt is making the premise that they are first div and not corrupt. What if they are corrupt? How would one overthrow the govt? One thing that pisses me off in this video is the lack of modality on Mahbubani part. He throws a bunch of accusations like they are facts.

  • harry's voice is so annoying; Kishore makes some good points.

  • good

  • Porra como é que esses caras conseguem botar um filme de 57:53 no youtube se o limite é de 10:00?
