  • Uses same music as WTRF(West Virginia Media-owned) Wheeling, WV- Steubenville, OH.

  • Sounds like one part of this voiceover was recorded before the other...and one part sounds extremely off for Roger Thompson, too. (It's the first part with the city names, intro (but not the anchor), and ending.)

  • WRAL has always had nice graphics, good personalities, and a professional broadcast. One of the best in North Carolina that I've seen over the years. Have to give them a hand for that.

  • I liked Bob Vernon. A dynamic voice! I was dissapointed that he did not become Charlie Gaddy's replacement.

  • I watched some of GaDDy's final broadcasts & I remember a moment that might have provided a glimpse into behind the scenes rancor at the big 5 over his replacement. Perhaps it was his very last show, but if not it was certainly toward the end. Anyway, in signing off, GaDDy talked rather frankly about the succession process and seemed to offer a tacit endorsement of one of the competitors. After expressing his gratitude 4 serving N the plumb anchor assignment 4 so many years he said, paraphrased:

  • It's really been an honor to come into your homes, blah, blah, blah...and WHEN THE DUST SETTLES, I believe DAVID CRABTREE will be the man who will continue the great tradition...blah, blah, blah.

I noted that I paraphrased GaDDy's thoughts on wrapping up his lengthy tenure with the station. But he definitely used the words "when the dust settles" in referencing the selection process for his successor, which would tend to suggest there was a pitch battle for the coveted post.

  • When did David Crabtree enter the picture?

  • In 1994, when Charlie Gaddy retired.

  • Do you have any material from when WRAL was still an ABC affiliate?

  • Oh how I wish I did. The earliest recordings I or my family made themselves go to the 1985-1986 TV season. If I ever find anything you'll definitely see it.

  • Roger Thompson was really rushing in announcing the City Names in this intro, wasn't he? Great to see one of the first intros from WRAL with Pam Saulsby. Talk about one of the many changes in hairstyles!

  • Thanks for putting more WRAL stuff up!

  • Thanks for watching.
