  • I thought this was Option 30?

  • The lyrics in the end are all mistaken!! XD It would be great to hear a real NIN cover of this.

  • good cover!

  • I have this on VHS somehow. ROFL.

  • This is a good good cover...

  • Mike Baranski on guitar, Steve Jaworski on Bass

they were a really good band

  • Say what you will about this because of who Trent is now, but this is probably one of the best covers I have ever heard for this song. It just shows that Trent has had the chops since day 1. I noticed this about most of his former bands, he seems to stand out a lot, more so than the other musicians. Just a sign he was destined to be bigger.

  • So is this just a billy idol cover?

  • @PopSickleXxXLipStick Yeah it's a Billy idol cover

  • OH MY!!! My fave song from the 80s, and one of my favourite musicians!! Thank you thank you!!!!

  • jajajajaja reznor canta peor que yo... increible video!!

  • OMg i heart this, once a day i viddie this. I wish i had this treasure in my hands to pop it into my vcr, yes i still have one of those and use it often.

  • soul searching

    thanks for this vid

  • Really thank you so much

  • Muito bom falo português e nao vou mudar!!!

  • god this sounds only like trent in certain spots. proves that everyone has a start, no matter how bad, haha

  • Comment removed

  • haha great ;d

  • This was his first band: man, this had to be like '82 or '83

  • Billy Idol didn't put this song out till 84. So its after that.

  • TRENT IS THE KING OF MUSIC!!!!

  • i thought this was option 30

  • @erzsebetsari I thought so too.

  • Yes...THIS IS definitely Trent in The Urge! I'm from Youngstown, OH and can verify it! I saw them Live on stage in clubs around Northeast Ohio, and they were awesome. I miss those days.

  • Too funny!! I used to go see this band all the time at Spanky's. hehehehehehehe

  • haha i never knew this

  • 4:5 - 4:6 put your head to a speaker it's defently trent

  • is it wrong to be turned on by this? koz oh lawd i love nerds mmm love trent =*

  • They did a good job covering this song

  • is this trent on vocals?

  • Yeah, I'm pretty sure it's him. I mean, you can kind of recognize his voice. Plus, it looks a lot like him.

Man, I love this video :)

  • I actually like Trent's work, I'm just not the-die-hard-fan-type.

  • that whole halo thing is kinda nerdy in my opinion.

  • yeah right the halo thing

    is bitchin

trent reznor is a fucking BADASS

  • This is actually The Urge. Steve Jaworski, Trent, Mike Baranski and what they called Lynn, the drum machine. I have many flyers from these days and saw them many times. Option 30 was before the Urge. This is probably taken at R.J.'s in Youngstown, around '84 - '85. Chances are very good that I was at this show. I know they used to record the whole show sometimes so I don't know where the rest of the songs are. Good times.

  • it is not that big of a deal, ok. don't make an issue out of it.

  • I was being sarcastic, you know?

  • Of all pre-nin videos, this is my favorite. What a gem!

  • :) yeah right

  • Seriously, I've actually always liked this song. Hearing it in Trent's voice is like a dream come true. Too bad these classic videos weren't better preserved.

  • wow trent you ru my idol, gj can't wait for your next album -woops did i let it out?

  • trent tried to sound just like billy..if he did it his own way as he would now it would probably much cooler. still good though.

  • i wish he would do a studio version of this.

  • wow no matter how his voice changes. His voice will always be amazing.

  • OMG! trent reznor doing a Billy Idol cover, this is marvellous.. obviously Billy's is better, but its great to see that one of my idols was the idol of another one of my idols.. lol...

  • this is priceless!!!!!:D:D

  • it does actually have a price! one million dollars.

    :p

  • trent nos loquea como billy idol

  • hehe trent isn't punk enough to pull this off, but at least he had the balls to try.

  • hahahaha cute!

  • yes, define trent from one halo..just forget about all the other wonderful albums he's made. are you retarded hero?

  • heroin really changes a man

  • it was actually alcohol and cocaine. but that's neither here nor there...

  • Speechless.

Trent voice has changed for the better.

  • Wow, open that throat heh?

  • Wow. You go Trent. I'm really very, very glad that you left Option 30.

  • it's a cover he sing like the original singer but without the "grimace"!

it's a great ,a very great hope for everyone!

  • go trent!

  • His voice sounds really different

  • I don't think I recognise it at all. :)

  • Oh. My. God.

I just don't know what to say.

  • OH, NO PLAID!

  • Trent was incredibly lame once. There's hope for the rest of us!

  • 21 years ago babe..

  • This really cheers me up for some reason :)

  • I was the first to rip this from the vhs and share it on the net. BTW this is Option 30 not Urge. thanks.

  • You're mistaken ... This is the Urge .. I know Steve Jaworski on bass.. and I'm from MEADVILLE, PA. where option 30 Helled from !

  • I would sell my soul for a 2008 version of Trent doing that!

  • so would i !

  • Holy fuck... How time changes people

  • Love Trent's fake British singing accent! lulzzzzzzzz

  • I wasent even thought of when this was done! HEHEHEHEHEHE! He was sexy then (MELTING) and steel is. damn!!!

  • Another priceless video for the archives! Where did you find this stuff? Thank you so much for sharing it with us!

  • A little searching.

    No problem, enjoy ^^.

  • Whoa never seen this vid of young TR.

  • Does Trent have a perm? bwahahahha

  • yes yes he does common thats the 80's thing to do gawd i had a perm in the 80's

  • i love youtube, so many things i would never see otherwise

  • My god, never though footage of these guys existed. Trent Reznor, Mike Baranski & Steve Jaworski - the best club band in Youngstown.

  • Wow...if this isn't pure 80s, I don't know what is.

  • Trent Reznor as John Bender. Love it.

  • I must say his voice was pretty impressive then. He kinda changed the way of using it while changing to NIN. I still think there are many vocal *things* Trent could surprise us all with. I dont know why but I think that gospel would be good inspiration.personally I love gospel ;]

  • well. He was in musical theatre in high school after all. After Jesus Christ Superstar, nothing surprises me. The lumberjack shirt is kinda hot though.. in a 1985 kinda way...

  • good cover....always cool to see artists before they got famous....!!

  • Hahahaha. Great weekend entertainment!

  • oh thank god he'll never sing a song like this again

  • eww the shirt geez trent no style...

  • why oh why pick a song you can't sing? painful on the eyes and ears.

  • omg that bit at the end, the slow..seductive hand behind the head, followed by the ABRUPT turn to the left!! hahahahaha

  • That hair is killer :D

  • oh...my...god.

Never thought I'd see the day when I could compare Trent's voice with that of a lounge singer. ahaha

  • That is so Trent Reznor...His voice is and always will be amazing!

  • This is Trent before god status?

  • he does a good job and covers his ass well when he forgot the right lyrics toward the end of the song...great cover though

  • that is not TR?!

  • It is Trent Reznor.

  • I did not expect to ever hear TR this way. The band does a good cover.

  • how touching he puts Idols to shame Josefa F.

  • LOL trent looks nerdy in this

  • I was in middle school at this time, and I can guaratee you, he does NOT look nerdy. His looks are certainly of hearthrob-quality by mid-80's standards! I would have taped a picture of him to *my* wall, anyway! LOL!

  • One of my old old favorites from way back..thanks for posting dirni :) x

  • No problem. =)

  • I absolutely love seing Trent in this musical context. I wish he felt the inclination to broaden his musical boundaries. I've always dug NIN but I'd love to hear more than literal expressions of zealous hatred and loathing on his albums. It's kind of like move on or end it, you know?

  • This is not Option 30, it's a band called "The Urge"

  • Ok is it The Urge or is it Exotic Birds?

I'll change the name or whatever.

  • Without a doubt, it's The Urge. I was in Option 30. This is his band after Option 30. Exotic Birds came after The Urge.

  • You were member of Option 30, or what are you talking about?

  • "I was in Option 30" means I was a member of Option 30.

  • Did you met Trent?

Well... i'm confused. Im working on NIN net radio. Can I get any contact on you? If you want to share your "history", please, let me know. I will be very glad.

  • Sorry, You'll have to get Trent's history from Trent.

  • I dont want to get Trent's history. I am not any snuffing asshole :)

I just want to know how was he and you in The Urge. What was the work like, what were the shows like etc. Just small email interview.

If you'll say "no", i will respect it, but i will be very pleased if you'll say "yes". And excuse my english, please, im from Czech Republic.

  • For the second time- I was in Option 30, not The Urge. Option 30 started out as a new wave cover band and gradually evolved into an original band. Trent joined right out of high school and played keys and sang for about a year. We played clubs in western PA. and eastern Ohio and developed a loyal following especially at colleges. After he left the trio continued for another year playing all original music. Thanks for your interest.

  • Sorry, i am stupid. I know you were in Option 30.

So that's end of our conversation?

Well, i have just one another question - are you in contact with him? Or did he forgot?

  • I haven't seen him for a few years and we've had no contact since then.

  • Ok. Thank you. If you'll change your mind and want to afford little interwiev, let me know know, please.

Once again - thank you. That was honour to meet you there.

  • Are you still involved in the music business?

  • Yes, why do you ask?

  • Well, may as well know more about your current projects than ask you what Trent liked to eat in 1985, inni't. Just wondering what kind of sound you're into now etc..

  • I was the bassist in Option 30. Now I'm producing and mixing singer songwriters, jazz, rock and middle eastern projects as well as writing my own tunes with the hope of getting some placed in TV shows.

  • Prove it.

  • yo are you serious? Would you ever do anything with TR again? What a mix that would be--the things you just mentioned with his part industrial electronix

  • It's an interesting thought. I haven't spoken to TR in quite a while- don't think he has much interest in working with somebody from the old days.

  • Well Im sure you guys are entirely different people now--whens the last time either of you dropped each other a line? He has gotten really embarassed in the past I guess when ppl have mentioned his wrk before

  • nine inch nails but I think all this stuff is cool--you would never hear him singing like this these days. As different as nin is from album to album you never hear him sounding "bright" vocally like when youy guys did lies from en vogue and der kommisar--even this song (the urge), he sounds totally lounge!Ive gotten to see a totally different aspect of what he does. I think this is the exotic birds tho right?

Were you the dude with the glasses in O30?I Actually have some.

  • It seems that English may not be your first language. Not sure what you mean by the exotic birds question. I'm not the drummer in O30. "Actually have some"- you have a recording of Option 30? The band grew quite a bit after TR left. We started writing and became an all original band. Kind of like a progressive Police.

  • Of course it is--I could swear I saw that guys with glasses--and yes, I do have a recording of a lot of option 30 stuff. I thought his urge cover was by the exotic birds, because its a different lineup of people, but theres stuff on here with him and yet another lineup of people so I guess Im not sure

  • i think ur full of shit. personally...

wiki come in handy for ya?

  • woah, he does kinda sound like billy idol

  • Wow...he sounds pretty damn close to Billy Idol. He even evoked the British accent...and here Trent says that he can't sing. :)

  • OMG hahaha this makes me laugh so much... gotta love Trent.

  • This definitely NOT Option 30. I think its the exotic birds or some version of them anyway.

  • Alright then.

Go find some Option 30; when you've found some come tell me then if I'm wrong I'll change the name.

Gosh why can't people just comment on the video and not the name!

  • Ok,The vidio's good and really entertaining but Option30 they are not. you posted "gotta look sharp" that is infact option30.Trust me its a different band.

  • I think he's right, this looks and sounds more like Exotic Birds kinda repertoire, plus I think Trent used to be singer/keys with EB. But it's still a damn good video indeed, would love a copy ;))

  • This is actually The Urge, just look at the other band members.

  • Oh my... that hair XD.... I just can't get enough of these!

  • I love Trent except his appereance xD

    (: LOVE TRENT :)

  • yeah but Trent was the best in his earlier nine in nails he had the long hair and was just a dark dude ya know had like an evil presense which was awesome in their music back then nto so much now their doin a lil expreremental stuff these last 2 albums

  • I prefer Trent Reznor now.

He seems a lot happier in his skin and actually knows what he wants and how he wants to do it.

I think With Teeth was more experimental like a question to himself "Should I still be doing this?" and from what I've heard of Year Zero he knows he wants.

    He's got his confidence back.

  • i can't believe this even exists.

  • how can he go from trent then, to the big hulking screaming beast of a man he is now on stage.

really cute. he is too talanted

  • wow i have this song on 45!! snarf.. :P

  • Just goes to show you how hard he worked to get where he is today.

  • Oh man... i love the dancing. Tooo fucking cute.

  • ah the 80's. gotta love the 80's.

  • I would definetly love to see Trent sing this song at a NIN concert.Just for old times Trent!!

  • lol, that hair!
