First you quoted Shatner, now you're quoting me; you really are desperate for material aren't you? As I recall, you started this argument. You decided to pick on Star Trek fans, knowing that they're normally non-aggressive people and you went online to do it so you didn't have to look in their faces. I don't need to be lectured about insecurity, least of all by a timid, cowardly, violence-for-pleasure seeking Rambo fan.
An example of great filmmaking, period. Especially when you include the earlier parts of this scene (approaching the Reliant, the attack itself). It's the music, the tension, the hopelessness after Enterprise is utterly neutralized, the shock when Khan appears. The cleverness of Kirk's counter-attack. Editing, understanding of the characters, scriptwise, etc. This was some tight filmmaking.
0:09 to 0:13 Kirk is all like "Arrogant asshole. You won't be so smug in a few seconds..." EPIC. Best Star Trek movie there ever was, or ever will be.
It took Khan how many shots to bring down the Enterprise? Five, maybe six? Yeah, Kirk did nearly the same job with TWO, and his phasers weren't even at full power.
@whitemanstand72 Imagine that, a You Tube troll lecturing a Star Trek fan on the need to get a life, and quoting William Shatner to do it. I advise you to practice what you preach, as shit-slinging is the greatest hallmark of the truly insecure.
Khan's arrogant presumption really bit him in the ass here. He somehow convinced himself that his 'genetically engineered intellect' could possibly out-match the most experienced, most highly decorated commanding officer in Starfleet history. Sure as shit, when he was finished grand-standing, Kirk slung around and flushed his "superior intellect" straight down the toilet. Awesome!
They say those codes were there to prevent Enterprise from lowering Reliant's shields. It would seem those codes would have been there to make retrieval of stolen Federation vessels easier.
What doesn't add up is that Khan would have known something was going on as they would have been able to detect Enterprise locking phasers on them, as Enterprise had detected Reliant locking phasers on them a few minutes before?
Thats what I thought - why not target the bridge? Even damaged, the Enterprise still caused quite a lot of damage - just look how the phasers blew out the deflection crystal on the link between the Reliant's intermix chamber (i.e. warp core) and the impulse engines!
@danivarius Because Kirk didn't want to murder them, but neutralize the threat and have them captured and hopefully not destroy the Reliant which was a fed asset of course.
It guess the bridge is quite heavily armored as well :) Also, if the shot wasn't efficient enough, Khan or its crew could return fire from another place...
@commandox20 Tactically, it would not make sense to attack the bridge. All Federation starships have a battle bridge and it would be safe to assume that Khan had people there to continue the battle. Best to knock out Reliant's weapons and propulsion. Good tactical thinking by Sulu.

"Sir, our shields are dropping."
"Raise them!"
"I CAN'T!"
One of my all-time favorite scenes from anything.

Why didn't Kirk open up with photon torpedoes and finish the job? Silly me, there would have been no movie then.

I know you are in the "greatest hallmark of the truly insecure."

Khan thought, upon realizing that the shields have been deactivated by remote "I've been tricked!"

My ONLY complaint with this scene now that I think about it...
Why in Hell didnt sulu take out the bridge?

because Kirk didn't order him to fire there. And also, it wasn't in the script :p

@Silence233 The best part is, the datalink was still open during that shot. You can actually see Kirk saying "fire" through a tiny grin.

Poor Joachim. He's the only one with common sense on Khan's ship. He tries to talk sense into him but it's no use.
JanesCalamity 2 years ago 25
He's apparently the only one who can speak besides Khan too!
Will87 2 years ago 5
I know! Wonder if Khan ripped out their tongues for disobedience at one time.
I guess they didn't want anybody to get too attached to any of the characters on the "bad guy" ship.
JanesCalamity 2 years ago 3
Or I wonder if they had to pay the other ones less if they had no lines.
Poor Joachim. The dude's agent played hardball with HArve Bennett and they removed his name from the credits

That was entertaining to read. I couldn't help but crack up at someone pretending to be Captain Kirk.^^
Thank you.
