  • Fuck the British. We kicked their ass in the 1700's. Go for broke Ireland.

  • This song could almost be about the unionist paradox in northern ireland

  • Ah, please talk to me englishman What good will shutting me out get done Meanwhile crazies are killing our sons Oh listen - englishman I've honoured you - hard englishman Now I am calling your heart to my own Oh let glorious love be done

     Be truthful - englishman

  • I love you my hard englishman Your rage is like a fist in my womb Can't you forgive what you think I've done And love me - I'm your woman And I desire you my hard englishman And there is no more natural thing So why should I not get loving Don't be cold englishman

How come you've never said you love me In all the time you've known me How come you never say you're sorry And I do

  • I did not know the lyrics to this....nice!!

her voice IS alive and beautiful....xx

  • RUN FORREST RUN BOY!

  • @skittification LOL You still runnin after him skitty.....in your wheelchair? he he

  • @TirEoghainTim

Well Tim nice but Dim, how would I run after him if I was confined to a wheelchair?

    Damn boy you're Dumb!

  • wonder what she would sing if her child was beaten by british soldiers? if her family was burnt out of thier homes. if she had to live in the occupied part of Ireland? I am pleased that you are free. But unless you will help me, ...shut the fuck up. we need action, not words

  • @fallzskin I think maybe you misunderstand what she is conveying. She is asking the English why? Why have you done the things you have done to us. She is asking for an explanation. We've done nothing to deserve 800 years of tyranny. 'while crazies are killing our sons" She is asking for love.

  • @kingsmen711

You Yank candyass, wtf are you on about you clown.

  • @skittification Pog mo thoi'n.

  • @kingsmen711

Are you saying you suck cocks you Candy Arsed Yank? Mehehehe

  • @kingsmen711

Why the English Kingsmen? And not the British.Afterall the English haven't been in control of their country since 1066.

  • @HarryBodensson You miss the point.

  • @kingsmen711

I may miss the point but you mistake countries.

  • @HarryBodensson England is the power base, every other part of Britain has been part of its colonial expansion.

  • @thongdongalong

That's what you like to believe. The last 3 PMs have been Scottish, the monarchy has been Norman/Scottish since 1066 and the English don't have a parliament.

England has been part of colonial expansion. Yes, people invaded it not the other way round.

  • @HarryBodensson Im not talking about the bloody battle of Hastings and knights riding around calling each other Lancelot. I'm talking about more recent history, the history that still effects us rather much. So no need to act like a smart ass, if you were.

  • @thongdongalong

Aren't PMs recent enough for you? One of them is present and is he English?

  • @HarryBodensson I don't see what nationality a PM has to do with it. If you have a Scottish manager of the English team, he's not bloody working for Scotland is he?

  • @thongdongalong

Poor example. He's the prime minister of Great Britain. I'm not British.

  • @HarryBodensson But seeing as England is the power base and we can see that policy etc have been biased towards England we can safey say any PM in West Minister is going to look out for England first. Gordon Brown was from Fife, which is an utter shite hole, you they care about their heritage? Get a grip. Neither am I.. I'm Scottish.

  • @thongdongalong

BIASED? THE ENGLISH DON'T HAVE ANYTHING,YOU HAVE A PARLIAMENT AS WELL AS GETTING A VOTE IN MATTERS ONLY CONCERNING ENGLAND.

    Are you being serious?

  • @kingsmen711 that's the point isn't it? the only love the british ever showed us was a bullet in the head. Do you expect me to sing of peace, love and understanding then? Let them leave my country and beg our forgivness first.

  • @fallzskin Agree 100%

  • Thacther as each day goe`s on you get closer to your grave you Bastard!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • @ciaranmcglinchey

So do you you retarded idiot!

  • Always come back to hear and see it :-)

  • Well done Girl , proud of you still standing your ground , us SCOTTISH people should be asking for the same , just my opinion , but William Wallace kicked ass and stopped there rights to take SCOTTISH woman and a lot more

  • Excelente sonido, gracias. I don´t understand english but yes my skin . Sorry

  • Wow hard to imagine she is the same woman today, what a shame, drugs and the years do to a person! She was pretty cute back then!

  • Don'y think so

How do you know she is a drug addicted whore. Is it because you are so poor ?

    Sounds phenomenal always to me

  • @rfcarl69 She suffers from , Bipolar , not drug addiction

  • She's so ugly now drug addicted whore!

  • I'm sorry, and yes, I love you.

  • You wonder why we hate you

    and all that you are

    a famine, a hunger

    leaves a deep scar!

  • I love you my hard Englishman Your rage is like a fist in my womb Can't you forgive what you think I've done And love me - I'm your woman And I desire you my hard englishman And there is no more natural thing So why should I not get loving Don't be cold Englishman How come you've never said you love me In all the time you've known me How come you never say you're sorry And I do
  • Ah, please talk to me Englishman What good will shutting me out get done Meanwhile crazies are killing our sons Oh listen - Englishman I've honoured you - hard Englishman Now I am calling your heart to my own Oh let glorious love be done Be truthful - Englishman How come you've never said you love me In all the time you've known me How come you never say you're sorry And I do I do
  • shes been the most beautiful woman i have ever seen since i was11 her voice takes my breath ive her 1 in a million girl 4 sure

  • What a heart-stopping, beautiful, gentle song. Really touched my heart. Utterly Beautuful. Thanks Sinead!

  • nur Eines " Gänsehaut "

  • @easy3617

    Jep!

  • ye lads are stupid, take it for what it is, it's a tragic love song, extremely well sung. I would think it is her personal rebel song, nothing to do with any of the BS that us being said on this forum.

  • @polmaccaba01 Umm it's well known that "this is a rebel song" is a response to Saint Bono saying about sunday bloody sunday "this is not a rebel song". The song is indeed about a "relationship", which on the surface is about a personal love/sexual relationship with her "englishman" but in reality is a political one between ireland and england.

  • now we r talkin up yhe ra

  • what more can i say

  • What a great song and what a great performance! The Band is excellent too!

  • As nutty as a.....

  • @cocksneezer1 fixed

  • @WAXY950 fixed????? how so?

  • @smyeisright What a pair of fuckwits!

  • @cocksneezer1 there you go troll fixed that

  • @cozener1 ????????

  • this had me in floods of tears.Sorry ireland..we do love you more than you will ever know!

  • @johnsmith4442

Thank you so much for this comment! Its so easy to put all the people of one nation in a pocket, nobody should do that! I am German...

  • @johnsmith4442 Really? Sorry? after all the shit that has happend? Sorry isnt enough

  • @johnsmith4442 do you love the afghan or iraqis innocent people you brits and americans kill?

do the need to sing a song for u kids to say there sorry to them?

you people are such a joke and i bet it was irish people giving you thumbs up while your country still kill the weak.

    shame on all of you!!!!

  • Made me cry, and I'm a hard man. I love the balance, subtlety, and the measured brutality of this song. I've listened to the other version here, which doesn't have the devastating "fist in my womb" line, so it doesn't have quite the same visceral impact.

  • I love you english people...its just that those rulers have been floggin us...lets work on 'em together...God help us all...

  • Sinead is an amazing storyteller! This beautiful ballad poetically describes the difference between the Irish and their occupiers! The fact that it's a response to Bono declaring Sunday Bloody Sunday as "not a rebel song" (written by the Edge, as a rebel song), makes this that much sweeter!!!

  • @j3228a

As much as I know this song was written by Steven Wells. But: nobody can sing it like she does! Hello from Germany ( Ex east, we can tell storys toooooo :-) )

  • @j3228a you're so right. This is the best answer to war and incessant fight.

  • get rid of himm...he's no good

  • Maith thu Sinead. Amhrán álainn!

  • @karezza6

    see the problem we got...

  • I love ya sweet baby...

  • "What good will shutting me out get done"...i shed a tear at that one...Simply beautiful!!

  • I think alot of Scottish as well as Irish People can relate to this song in the context that rocketsjudoka has put it..well said....TAL xx

  • so beautiful....<3

  • So pretty!!!!

  • What a lovely voice! Bypasses your ears and goes straight to your heart. Where is she now?

  • One Redcoat pressed the dislike button

  • This is a deeply meaningful song for those of us with both English and Irish blood in our veins.

  • there is no song sang by her that i can dislike...her voice makes everything sound worthy!

  • @dolitsa yup, so underrated! The public is soooo stupid for ignoring her MUSIC.

  • What a voice ,..a talented Irish woman x

  • This song makes the hair on the back of my neck stand up....You go gurlfriend.....Have an outstanding day,Crazy Patti

  • надо же, она так похожа на Одри Хепберн и Вайнону Райдер.

  • She looks like one of my friends.....

  • it's crazy that she and Winona Rider look alike....the could have been sisters....or cousin...

  • @2328lem I know! Back in her 20s, Sinead looked like Winona

  • Happy birthday Sinead.

  • what an incredibly sad song :)

  • the guitarist is great the way he is so focused on her making sure he gets it just right, amazing performance

  • Beautiful...Sinead is a true gem...

  • I saw this years ago and was in ore and still am. so breathe taking is this performance. I would rate this as the most emotional performance i've ever seen. says alot about Sinead as a human bean and artist. shivers going down my spine as i write this. powerful emotional person. god bless you Sinead. from Australia.

  • she and her voice is equally beautiful

  • Sessions at West 54th was such a great live music show. A real treat to find on TV on Saturday nights in the late 90s. This is a prime example of how special it was. The harmonies here lift this powerful song immensely. I'm kind of dazed now.

  • @wsidechris - same here, i am actually short of breathe from watching this and remembering what effect it had on me al those years ago, when i saw it on tv. I only wished that more people in this world would have seen this spiritual performance. classic artist.

  • Love it......:)......xx

  • what is she saying right at the end?? and she is so beautiful <3

  • @australiatoengland

    "That's the puppy"

  • she always stood her ground, admirable though unpredictable and misunderstood. being part Irish, this is a tear filled appreciation for the meaning behind the song and the interpersonal emotions it invokes...

to rocketsjudoka she prefaces the performance with the very words

"this is a love song" - could be why people 'think' it is a love song ;)

  • @0a9ziza Not really. She recanted all she said about Catholicism, even though she was right.

  • from what year is this?

  • why doesn't YT have a "repeat" button?

  • what´s she saying in the end?

  • the beautiful sinead

  • I love Britain, but what happend between Britain and Ireland makes me sick.

  • thats the puppy ????? (3.19)

  • I love this woman. She always manage to make everything she sings so personal. You can just tell from the moment she starts singing, Her voice and her mind are the only things she listens to on the stage. She doesn't look at audience, doesn't even bother to plug in the back stage headset. Nothing's distracting her. She simply sings out her heart. Its truly one beautiful, powerful, and honest voice.

  • @warriorprince1010 True she grew up in Dublin long after British rule but the legacy of British occupation colors all of Ireland. The Irish struggle for independence is a topic that she has taken up before such as in her haunting version of Foggy Dew. This song is a beautiful song but it is one that is very complex and really makes you think.

  • i love you sinead

  • The guitarist is real creepy O_o

  • This is a really complex song. Its a metaphor comparing the relationship between Ireland and England as an abused wife and her abusive husband. I find it interesting that people are looking at it as a love song when its really the plea of an abused wife who still has deep feelings about her abuser but cannot understand why she has been continued to be abused.

  • @rocketsjudoka brilliant brilliant

  • @rocketsjudoka Perhaps that's why there is a stereotype for it?

  • @rocketsjudoka Ya and she titled in "This is a Rebel Song" to kind of slap U2 in the face because after they recorded "Bloody Sunday" they were accused of being IRA supporters and they said that the song "was not a rebel song". So Sinead turned around and made this :)

  • @rocketsjudoka, i really need to listen lyrics more carefully.

  • @rocketsjudoka

Listen to Luka.... lovely song similar message

  • @rocketsjudoka Nicely done. I don't think I or anyone else could've synopsized this song's message any better than you already have. I'm far from a thiest, but this song is hymn-like to me, reminding the essence of Christ's message ... that the truest path to healing is in loving each other.

  • @rocketsjudoka im sorry but i have to correct you, this is a love song !!! Clue was at the start when she said"this is a love song"...its not about abuse at all!! Its about the difference between the english and the irish but it has a very positive message..its not slating the english in any way ..it also has a very high political undertone, it refetrs to the troubles in Northern Ireland and the main message is "Yes there are problems with how we communicate but nothing unfixable"

  • @honestguy77 Actually your wrong.

  • @thongdongalong i think you will find if you use your brain and do some research that YOU are wrong!!

  • @honestguy77 im staring at her exact words here, trust me your wrong. hahaha

  • @honestguy77 Actually ive seen her say it herself.. So you lose you absolute troglodyte!

  • @thongdongalong you are wrong because i know her personally so check your facts...no need to be rude..i wont lower myself to your sorry gutter level....

  • @honestguy77 hahahahahahaha, your such a loser. Honest guy my ass....

  • Another beautiful song sung by Sinead and The Screaming Orphans (if I'm not mistaken) as backing vocals - the harmony is wonderful! This is very beautiful hearing it live as one can appreciate the "raw" tones that unfold.....<3 <3 <3

  • Kind of makes you wonder when the last time someone dropped to their knees and kissed the ground of their home land

  • i love tis song brillant singer up the irish
