  • Steve Jordan!! Is it?

  • @ThisIsDonnieMusic yepp :) he's such a great drummer!!

  • And Mcintosh too :)

  • The black-skinned man makes all the difference I find ..

  • Dat solo..!!

  • fucking guitar god.

  • sick sounding fuzz

  • not diggin the 3 piece backup singers.

  • this song would be so much better if he used an effect that didnt sound like a walmart amp

  • @maxamillbeats Its called a fuzzy tone... Quite popular actually.

  • i live in sydney and i only found out about this now?! anyone got a time machine?

  • @whiskian a wicked fuzz pedal

  • How the hell does he make that sound with an strat? Sounds like a super dirty humbucker distorsion

  • @whiskian Pete Cornish NG-2

  • @whiskian It's a Pete Cornish Fuzz, but he lowered the volume control on his strat.

  • best version ever

  • for this one i got a pretty good tone, bute the feel on a lp is simply diffrent. na di dont only mean this song, generally (like i said) i only play mayer jimi srv...

  • fuck this, why did i think i had to buy a stupid lp style guitar ---.---

  • @pumukellll LOL you can play this song exactly the same with a LP.

  • Who is the slide player?? Sorry if that question is offensive! :)

  • @RawiriGuitarist robbie mcintosh... i may have spelled the name wrong, and other words too, but english isnt my mother tongue :D

  • @pumukellll Cheers! :)

  • one major troll at 1:05

  • @craymond00

He's playing the drums in this very video..

  • Comment removed

  • but it is cream's version of the song that he is covering, the style. and over half of America probably has no idea who robert johnson is. which is too bad.

  • 1:57 ! It's funny how he moves his head :D

  • LOL at the girl in the background at 1:05

  • sounded like the slide guitar came in too quick during john's solo lols

  • 39 dislikes??????

  • ROBBIE MCINTOSH!

  • i respect him as a musician he sounds good, but don't ever compare him to hendrix.... ever, alright? check out his live attempt at panama... its awful

  • @blitzmashballs everyone plays shitty sometimes man, even hendrix. i'm not doing any kind of comparison, because you cant really compare music except in your own mind. but saying the reason he can't be compared to hendrix because he played a song poorly once is ignorant

  • @acemerald yeah seriously, almost everytime I watch Hendrix live I think he's a little sloppy

  • @jman289 But understand that that "sloppiness" is part of the heart and soul of rock n roll. Thats where the best music lies...in imperfection.

  • @ShivaTheAuspicious nah i disagree, just because you are a rock musician doesn't give an excuse to do stuff like forget lyrics, or sing with gum in your mouth. hendrix was a perfectionist in the studio as well

  • @jman289 Hendrix often chewed gum while he sang/played..you DO know that right? Hendrix was not perfect, he did the best he could with the talent he had, which was by far better than many in his day. Rock n roll has always been more about the attitude, vibe and style more than it is about the technique. Technique is only a means to an end really. Look at early century blues music; its ragged, swinging (off beat) and nasty..but thats why its so f'n cool.

  • @ShivaTheAuspicious Yeah I know he did that, I've seen countless videos. That's why I used it as an example. If you bothered to read all my comments you would see that I was stating that Hendrix wasn't perfect and that he wasn't some sort of god you use as a reference level for perfection. I mentioned the studio thing cause he was such a perfectionist in the studio, which means that being rock and roll musician isn't always linked to being sloppy.

  • @jman289 Being a perfectionist and actually achieving perfection are totally different things friend. Hendrix was a perfectionist but his recordings are not perfect. But again, that's why there is so much MOJO in those old recordings--the little "mistakes". studios recorded the band whole, all the way through instead of going track by track layer by layer to avoid mistake. Back then, you tried to get the feel as close as possible but if it wasn't squeaky clean they need not bother with it much.

  • @ShivaTheAuspicious wheenn did i say his recordings were perfect? this is turning into a weak argument that digressed from my original point. but you did prove my point-you can't say something bad about hendrix without people getting super defensive

  • @ShivaTheAuspicious so read the whole comment thread before you break out the condescending attitude

  • @jman289 Try playing guitar live while on three sheets of acid

  • oh calm down, hendrix wasn't god. let people think what they want

  • f**king awesome. he`s really the new jimi hendrix real awesome

  • It's not a Cream cover.... it's a Robert Johnson cover.

  • @jwa0822 It's both. Though Robert Johnson wrote the song, John uses a lot that cream added to it (i.e. the guitar part).

  • How the hell did he do that sound at 1:10? That's fucking cool.

  • @rudyrudy9 I think its a killswitch

  • @PeterBcRich It's not a killswitch. He is using a fuzz with the volume guitar volume dialed back. Fuzz petals can get really choppy and gatey depending on some of the resistance values in the circuit. So, if you pull the guitar volume down, it will accentuate that characteristic.

  • @rudyrudy9 He's using his fingers, there's no killswitch. He's just got TONE in his fingers.

  • @SIZZLEBIZZLE1982 yeah i finally figured it out and i knew it wasnt a killswitch because he doesnt use that shit. lol

  • good lil blues player.... over distorted tho

  • song ''made famous'' by cream. robert johnson-- credit where credit is due.

  • @rickythegreat1 no thats a lie , because John is well-known because of his guitar and vocal not only singing girl songs :)

  • the bassdrum is awesome! :D

  • John is fingerpicking the guitar and suddenly, out of nothing, pulls a guitar and starts a solo, and then he's fingerpicking again.

  • @JohnnyWilliams06 I think you mean "pulls a pick"? :P

  • @Oxpost Yeah, thanx. didn't see that...

  • @JohnnyWilliams06 Although it would have been more impressive if he pulled up another guitar out of nowhere.

  • Does anyone else think John Mayer is an under rated guitarist

  • @rickythegreat1 its masked by douchebaggery and mushy girl songs. i think he did this to let everyone know he still has some guts

  • @rickythegreat1 he's rated like number 25 in the world

  • @CMSpida dude theres no rating for guitar players because its a matter of opinion, its not like a Forbes list.

  • @livinlife245 rolling stone release a list every year. of course its an opinion but i was referring to that

  • @rickythegreat1 Really...he ripped off Stevie ray vaughan straight out XD

  • @rickythegreat1 and so is robbie mcintosh!

  • @rickythegreat1 nah hes not, he played with so many legends. just dont listen to youtube trolls :D

  • @rickythegreat1 really? i always thought he was amazing ever since.

i don't even think he's underrated at all

  • "under rated" - you

  • @rickythegreat1

under rated by who ? all people from top know him and he is on all best festivals...I think only people under his geniality can under rate him...

  • @rickythegreat1 I think he's the BLUESMAN of XXI.

  • @rickythegreat1 Dont like him here, he makes random licks having nothing to do with the base bass drums etc, just random penthatonics up and down, nothing to do with classy Clapton and others to be honest he is many steps down.

  • @rickythegreat1 You mean over rated, right?

  • the slide guitar player is awesome!!

  • this Isn't a cream song, it's robert johnson, cream only made it famous

  • @SeanyO1313 yes but this is a cover of cream's version

  • @SeanyO1313 yeh kochie thinks he knows everything lol

  • @SeanyO1313 well done. now go listen to the robert johnson song. then go listen to the cream song. different? aren't they? all the modern artists have covered the cream version, so nobody is wrong in saying he's covering clapton.

  • DRH looks awkward without a guitar in his hands lol

  • Crossroads is a Robert Johnson song.. Clapton covered it

  • Kick ass version!

  • U ROCK JOHN MAYER

  • Dont you hate it when people start arguments on youtube to assert their opinion?

I thought this cover was Really good! i like them both tbh.

My mother taught me when i was young i i had nothing nice to say, don't say anything at all! ..... Just sayin.

  • @furgledurll as long as its not insulting, it is ok to comment under a youtube video. i think it is good that i am allowed to say " i dont like that version or that one ".

as long as its not (in this case) pointless hating on johnny boy<^^

  • am i the only one who prefers robert johnson?

  • @feralchains I definitely do like the RJ version but damn. I do love a good JM solo. :D

  • I preffer Clapton but good version of JM ;D

  • great song, awesome solo!

  • He is covering Cream: That's based off the riff used by their cover of Crossroads. It would sound completely different if he were doing an unrelated direct cover of Robert Johnson.

  • john mayer is a really good guitarist. ppl should check out the crossroads 2010 festival where he does aint no sunshine. its an awesome interprtation of the song

  • I hv the same guitar strap .. Yeahhh!!! Ernie Ball Rockss.!! :D

  • @Ragavelov he usually uses the fender ones xD i think this is the only time i've seen him use something on a strat other than his SRV strat has teh same strap SRV had.

  • @jawide626 Hey thanks fr the time u took t comment :) i dont knw much details bt if u say so :P. cheers!

  • its a cover of a cover lol?

  • @KoryWithaKay yep

  • whos on the slide??

  • @prestigeworldwide141 robbie mcintosh

  • This isn't great like Eric Clapton's version. It's just really acceptable version.

  • No one beat Claptons original solo. Its awesome and IMO one of THE best live solos of all time.No taps,no sweeping just great melody.

  • at what moment did he get the pick for the solo?, or from where did he got it?

  • @pmartinezduarte always wrapped up in his index finger. he's mastered that technique i think. but it could've also been tucked behind the pick guard. white guitar + white pick= no one would ever know

  • kanye west plays drums for john mayer?!:o

  • @sebsoriano19 not kwl, Steve Jordan shall not even be compared to anyone, all jokes aside. HES AWESOME perfect groove.

  • @IchMagSechs oh shit. i did not not know that was steve. haha. but i agree with you. steve is an amazing drummer

  • @IchMagSechs I couldn't agree more. He kicks major ass! Wish he was my drummer.

  • It makes me mad when people say the Cream version a cover. It was NOT a cover. It sounds NOTHING at all like the original.NOTHING. It took so much musical talent to create that version. Maybe it was a cover back in 1968 but not by todays standards. Man we really suck today.

  • @lllULTIMATEMASTERlll of course it's still a cover... because it wouldn't exist without the original version

  • @aaronmackguitar That's true. But most people (who have never heard the robert johnson version) would think it sounds very much like the cream version. The cream version has nothing to do with the robert johnson version besides lyrics. I dont consider it a cover just a song inspired by the original

  • tabs on the solo ??

  • thats one hell of a slide guitar player

  • @iamthecodofhalo1 his names robbie mccintosh, one of the best session guitarists ever

  • creams crossroads was a cover of robert johnson so jms is a cover of a cover

  • They said it was a cover of "an old cream song" because not everyone knows who Robert Johnson is but almost everyone knows who Eric Clapton/Cream is ....

  • They said it was a cover of "an old cream song" because not everyone knows who Robert Johnson is but almost everyone knows who Eric Clapton/Cream

  • its been covered by so many people.. but i dont understand why people dont just say Robert Johnson since he was the one who wrote it.

  • cover of an old cream song...which was a cover of an old robert johnson song;D

  • so sick!

  • Comment removed

  • He goes from ripping off Stevie Ray Vaughan, and now he thinks he can get away with ripping off Jeff Beck's playing style to a T? wow...what a guy.

  • @sixstringbluesify yea he's using that tremolo bar just as much as Beck! What a ripoff! /sarcasm

  • @sejtur come onnn...look at the way he is using his fingers. Listen to the tone. Give me a break.

  • @sixstringbluesify I think JM's using a JB signature strat, so you're right about that he's "ripping off" JB on that level. But he's not stealing any licks from him as far as I know and is a guitarist not allowed to be influenced by other guitarists? IMO JM is not being influenced to the extent of ripping off somebody.

  • @sejtur You have to watch a lot of his videos to understand where I am coming from sejtur. He was in a Stevie Ray Vaughan phase for a long time, playing his licks and riffs exactly in his own music. Personally, I think this is not the way music should be. He should have come up with his own ideas instead of using someone else's. That is like a rapper who uses the melody to an already written song.

  • @sixstringbluesify I know wat you mean, he plays with techniques from other guitarists. Played alot of riffs from SRV (I think that's the only thing he wanted to play, even his guitar tech is since a few years rene martinez, SRV's guitar tech) But he also invented some new techniques himself, like in Neon, and the pinch and flick technique on who says or heart of life. I think that for JM it matters what song it is and what technique it calls for. So he is original, just not all of the time.

  • @sejtur I guess I can agree with you there...

  • @sixstringbluesify Nice! :) Now let's enjoy the music! ;)

  • @sixstringbluesify i am a huge JM fan and yes he definetly does wear his influences on his sleeve but is that not showing great respect to those artists and also how can you not?i mean was clapton not ripping of RJ when he covered this song?no he was showing his love for the song and introducing it to a new audience.I can honestly say that in a 100 years time if a song comes out with nothing but Jimi licks, srv rhythm and some Beck tone i will be more happy than a completly original Bieber song.

  • @BlackLabelForLife Totally agree with you. I'm already a die hard JM fan, but I would hope that all the haters would prefer his music to Justin Bieber's. If not then, then good music like this will forever be lost.

  • Man I'm gonna wear exactly like Steve Jordan, he's so classy!

  • WHERE IN THE HECK IS DAVID RYAN HARRIS?

  • @justinsokoloski I do believe he's singing backup (2nd one)

  • the host guy said cover of an old cream song? it's a robert johnson original, get your facts right!

  • P. Diddy is playing the drums :D

  • @MegaReduction lolz!

  • @DJ0KNUF 0:47 :D

  • i think he made that anchorwoman cream her pants...

  • i think he has a cold.

  • what fender is that one? its bloody nice.

  • @juliandjung it was custom made for him

  • @juliandjung it's a jeff beck model....

  • 1:51 the guy in the back is sure having a good time haha :D

  • @madsholthansen

its Charlie Wilson playing the keys! :D

  • damn john mayer can play guitar!!! he does cream justice with tht playing...but in my opinion his singing kind of takes away the meaning of the songs...and substitutes it with a "cool" image

  • @JustinChauGuitar

The meaning of the song is in the song itself, not the voice or how its expressed.

  • @pastyourhorizon 50% of the meanin of this song is already in it...the other half is how an artist xpresses it

  • @JustinChauGuitar

lmao I get what you mean, but meaning and expression are two different things. They are, however, are related.

  • @rhodesm54 (I'm guessing you hate freedom)

  • I'm loving this, I feel like I'm having a musical renaissance in my life, shedding my old music catalogue and listening to more John Mayer, Jason Mraz and Dave Matthews band. Loving all of it!

  • I love the nice little Jeff Beck thing at the end. . . Very nice!

  • his rythmic guitarrist has an epiphone 1963 coronet. I would die for that one. As for mayer, I dont know any of his own songs, but I respect someone who covers robert johnson.

  • What's wrong with the asian girl at the beginning writing on the glass?

  • Respect.

  • haha kochi is such a douche.. i love it how he thinks hes a hero for knowing (or pretending) to know the song

  • @theend777metal creo q ese era el punto

  • is that a beck guitar?

  • god its not a cream song u stupid aussie robert leroy johnson- god help me if u plzzzz

  • its not a fucking cream song u stupid brit- god help me if u plzzz - robert leroy jonhson

  • @rhodesm54 Stupid Brit? Correct me if I'm wrong (I'm guessing you're american) but that dude's australian.

  • The second the guy open his mouth to sing, it becomes MOR. He's advanced his style of playing and become more interesting but he needs to come up with a new voice.

  • dude if Steve Jordon ain't the coolest mofo chillin in the corner on his tight hip hop kick, kicking it, I don't know who is!!!

  • Awsome!!!!!

  • Great solo, low on the neck, high on the neck, perfectly played.

  • Hi there i play the guitar and i decided who is better or worse... please guys who that fuck are you to say that!

  • i'm sorry, but clapton and beck are still better

  • God Kochie is such a tool

  • @Gupps0123456 oh man i totally agree i cant stand him.

i hope when other countries watch this video they dont think we australians are all wankers like him !

  • @munchy040 unfortunately I think that is exactly what doesn't happen

  • WOW...This guy is 1000 times better than Clapton and Hendrix combined....I had never seen such powerful blues felling....both playing and singing are the best ever in the history of the blues....Someboby get me a doctor, please......WOW !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • @gibagang you sure need a doctor, you're going insane

  • wow john don't try and copy clapton cuzz you can't

  • @GuitarPhi1 thats because he's trying to play like john mayer, not eric clapton.

  • @loki866 say what you want john is good but not god clapton would have a field day with him in his youth hes a wanna be stevie ray vaugh hes lucky clapton even let him play with him whos know as a better guitarist Eric Clapton or John Mayer so exactly im not saying hes bad but Cream's crossroads is amazing Eric wrote the solo when he was 17!
